RUBY WEAPON, where are you!?
I've been playing through final fantasy VII again recently, and have run into a problem. Ruby Weapon is supposed to be visible in the desert around the Gold Saucer, but it's not showing up. I killed Ultimate Weapon, and did a bunch of story/battles after that, but Ruby is still nowhere to be found. Emerald is floating around in the ocean like he should be.
Another strange thing was how it took Cloud until disc 3 to unlock his third limit level... that's never happened to me before. I'm thinking there may be some bugs going on, and these are two different symptoms. I'm playing using the original discs in my PS3.
Playing through the game again has reminded me how much I love the materia system. Compared to other RPG's I've played, this seems to be the most fun (granted, there are some other very good ones). Finding interesting combinations of materia is fun, and mastering them is awesome. I love when you finish off a Weapon and in the screen where you receive experience hearing chime after chime as all of the new materia is born. By the way, does anyone know the name of the Weapon that gets its head removed at Junon? I'm pretty sure the answer can't be found within the game but I know the game's canon is explained in one or two other places.
BTW here is the method I used for breeding a gold chocobo:
- Catch two great chocobos from Mideel area (surrounded by two spirals)
- Feed the faster one some sylkis greens and then race him up to B class (I think I went to A class)
- Breed them twice with carob nuts, resetting until you get a green and a blue chocobo of opposite sex
- Feed/Race the green one up to S class (green is better since there is no slow section for green chocobos on the slow course)
- Breed the brother/sister (ew) using another carob nut to get a black chocobo
- Catch a wonderful chocobo from the Icicle area (surrounded by two jumpings)
- Feed/Race them for a combined total of 12 wins (I actually did more to win prizes)
- Breed them with a Zeio nut to get a gold chocobo
When I first played ff7 shortly after it came out, the best way to breed a chocobo was not public knowledge. The only guide I had found online (back when most pages were hosted on geocities lol) was horribly inefficient compared to the one above.
I feel like chocobo breeding could have had a lot more depth to it, though. Aside from the top two nuts, I can't think of any way to ever use the other ones. And greens are pretty useless other than sylkis, and maybe a couple of mimmet greens to get contain materia and chocobuckle. I understand they had to finish up FF7 and get it out the door, but it's still unfortunate.
By the way, my PS3 cannot handle the Knights of the Round summon! It lags like crazy.

I thought it's common knowledge that the Junon thingie was called Sapphire Weapon? Or maybe it's just me dumping random names on things.
Anw, if you are unlucky enough (killing blow always go to someone else) or fight efficiently enough (not getting damaged much w Cloud) then it's entirely possible to have your Limit Break delayed i think.
Never had trouble spotting Ruby though, so can't help you there :|
Edit: After digging around a little, Ruby n Emerald are not included in the original Japanese version. So if you are playing that, tough luck :/

The emerald weapon always scares the crap out of me. Whenever I use the submarine, that fucker is always hovering nearby. The guides were pretty terrible with their information about him as well. They never mentioned he has an attack that deals damage equal to how many materia you have equipped x1000. It seems to me that would be relevant information because that's generally the way he killed me.

Tifa sooo hot O.O
the best is making cloud go on a date with the guy with a gun on his arm. That was hilarious!

Yes either Cloud has finished off very few enemies, or there is a bug. I can't think of any reason why he wouldn't have been finishing people off, though. Maybe it was just extremely bad luck and I didn't notice it.

I never ever name my characters the default name in order to make it more personal, sometimes i give the honor to a friend or ill name him something completely random.

If you bump into it with the highwind, the fight starts. If you don't bump into the highwind with it, you won't know it's there if a bug prevents you from seeing it.

IIRC the fight only started when you hit it with a Chocobo. If you fly over it with the highwind you just get bounced back.
