i recently came up with an insanely efficient hotkey layout, took me quite a while to figure everything out but im extremely satisfied with the end result. i can also post the hotkey file if needed
Hotkey:
qwer = f keys `1234 = units (` rebinded from 0) 5 = robo 6 = robo and stargate (for rally purposes) Caps(re-binded from 9) = stargate tab(re-binded from 8) = nexus's 7=free hotkey
(plz note: these are only suggestions. you can bind your hotkeys however you want, this is just how i personally do it)
the only downside to this layout is that i had to change several spell/unit/building hotkeys so it'll take a while to get used to everything. having ur fkeys on qwer is way too baller to pass up on tho, it just makes everything much more efficient/faster. plus my new hotkey rebinds are very ergonomically friendly, i really dont feel any unnecessary strain on my fingers. heres a breakdown:
UNITS:
Probe: F MoCore: G Sentry: A DT: C Immortal: S Oracle: F
Spells/Abilities/Upgrades:
Patrol: Z Warpprism: Phasing Mode = F, Transport Mode = T, Unload = C Voidray: Thingy Alignement = F Oracle: Deactivate Pusar beam = F, Active Pulsar beam = C Carrier: Interceptor = C Mothership: Recall = C Thermal Lance: T Air attack (cyber core): S
Buildings:
Pylon: V Robo: A DT Shrine: G ***Warpgate: D <- spent alot of time on this, i intially had my warpgates on Caps and probes on D but it felt too uncomfortable/unnatural
the reason why i believe this layout is way more efficient than the regular f key method is because having ur nex's on tab + ur f keys on qwer allows you to cycle/chrono through them extremely fast, as opposed to having to reach all the way up to ur f keys and back down to chrono. also, i went with d for warpgates because i didnt feel comfortable hotkeying my gates, i initially had them on caps and then 4 but neither of those felt fast enough, having it on d allows u to reach all ur units effortlessly(c,z,s,a,t). u guys could easily modify stuff like that tho, i personally prefer having 1+ hotkey for my units.
plz feel free to give any feedback or suggestions

I personally use 1234567 area and qwertyu as control groups as a toss player hell yeah it's more convenient than f1f2f3
Cheers!
Too used to wc3 though so tab and shift are unchanged. And yeah ~ nexus and qw buildings. So ea ra at beats 1a 2a 3a any day

Sounds good.
As one player whos been playing BW/WC3 with standard keys since 2000 to another long-time player, How difficult is it to change your hotkey setup and feel "comfortable" with it?? I never did it in wc3 because I was used to my BW days, but now with the addition of the MsC I find myself running out of space on the standard 1-0..
Hmm I guess the best option is to find my own optimized setup, then just play like 100+ team games or something not as intense as to get comfortable before playing 1v1 again. I also stupidly started with H.O.T Forever style hotkeying (hatchs from 1-4, units 5+) and switching to Protoss in SC2 makes that kinda awkward lol Nexus/Gates/Robo/SG on 1-4 and units on 5-6-7

Tried using 12345678 for camera hotkeys and qwertyuio for control groups with the rest (asdfghzxcvbn) for everything else as zerg , but just couldn't get used to it (fuck muscle memory ), ended up losing chunks of my main army cause I jumped to my expo instead of selecting my army. Also, IMO, for some actions (lategame units / casters, upgrades, addons) it's more important to just not "mispress" a wrong key a couple of times than doing it as fast as possible.

A trick you can use is to bind some spells to multiple hotkeys next to each other. For instance, if you have trouble hitting I for Immortal correctly always, you can have it bound to both U and I.
Changing hotkeys is a pain though, it would always take me a few days of playing on a slower, more deliberate pace to get used to them.

Texmex so tryhard.
It's really nice, but I am a massive anti-fan of the use of X. Requires too much movement for big hands...

OH.. durr :D
Thanks

It really doesn't take long to get used to a new hotkey setup, i have changed mine multiple times, and i am thinking about doing it again, as the f keys on my keyboard are waaaay too far away, and i am getting annoy at having "s" as my main army, as moving my middle finger downwards as opposed to sideways feels too slow.
Also, spacebar as a-move is pretty good.
Currently i have:
1 nexus + forges 2 gates 3 robo 4 stargate
s main group ` far group (eg phoenix) caps templar/collos a mship core
wertyg is all spells/building units. so forcefield is w, so is storm, so is build zealot, so is build observer or phoenix etc.
edit: also, have d as patrol, f as hold position

I would really advise against having built advance structure on x, as anything that you need to use that quickly and that often all the way down there, when all your other keys are high up on the keyboard can slow you down, either have it further to the right and use your thumb, or just higher up if i were you.
