Greetings TL, I'm writing this blog today for a bit of assistance. You see, for the past 5 years I have had the beautiful SANYO Katana
And today, at long last, I've upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy SII :D:D:D::D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D So as you can imagine, I have NO idea what sort of tricks and helpful apps i can be utilizing with my new machine.
If you TLers could be so kind as to list off maybe a few apps that are a 'must have' for smartphone users (specifically gamers) it would be greatly appreciated. I'm talkin' any fun games, tools that'll make my life easier, or even things that will brighten my day jsut a little bit. I've got a lot of learning to do and a push in the right direction would be great!
Thanks again for your aid,
GLHF

I would start here and then just look around on the Play Store and if you see something interesting and free, and if you like it, keep it, if not, delete it. There are a bunch of apps that are awesome that haven't been written about so sometimes you just have to dig around to find them

i can feel you, i recently upgraded from 5 years of Nokia 6300 to an iPhone5, I was totally lost at first, all the new shiny smartphone thingies :D

get the console emulators(gba ps1 etc) then download the games from roms4droid.com. Most emulators are free. But apparently you need to have a copy of the game to get a legal rom

Disco light to use your cameras flash as a flashlight, an antivirus, netflix/hulu if you have either subscription, mx video player to replace built in android one, zedge to take further control and offer wide variety of notification and sound options, emulators, the gg button, html editors, skype....and thats pretty much it imo...there are a few niche apps blike teamviewer for remoting into pcs or gmote to turn your phone into a wireless mouse/keyboard set.

I would install a custom android 4 or 4.1 ROM. Battery lasts twice as long compared to the Gingerbread stock ROM, and it looks much nicer overall.
I'd recommend - PowerAmp (best Android MP3 player by far) - ES File Explorer as a file/folder explorer - AdAway to get rid of any form of advertising. - Snesoid as a SNES emulator because Android games are generally bad (some are decent like Apparatus and OneTouchDraw) - Classic stuffs like Skype, IMDB, a web browser (opera mobile and chrome are both great) - Stuffs you may not know if you're new to the smartphones world : Shazam (song recognition), Google Googles (let you discover how it works by yourself)
Have fun with your S2, it's a great phone !

Have fun with your S2, it's a great phone ! I would not install a custom ROM. You would only want to install a custom ROM if you want experience being a beta tester. Stock roms are much more stable and Samsung offers a 4.0 update for your phone. There are stock + rooted kernals on XDA.
