The Future Of Kingdom Hearts: KH3 & Beyond
Nostalgia is a bich. Especially when it comes to Video Games.
Remembering a game like Kingdom Hearts however is something that gives me wayyy more FEELS than usual. Honestly speaking, playing the original Kingdom Hearts back in 7th grade is among my favorite Video game memories ever. I clearly remember finishing my final exam and then rushing to my local game store to pick up the game. I can't really explain how happy I was traversing all those wonderful Disney worlds with Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
I was first introduced to the series through a friend of mine who actually had the Final Mix version of the first game. Although all the menus were in Japanese, the voices were all in English so we could understand most of what was going on. The idea of Disney characters mixed with Final Fantasy into this original storyline felt pretty bizzare at first, but I quickly learned to enjoy every single bit of it.
I couldn't say the same however for future entries in the series. As the series progressed further, it felt like the franchise slowly moved away from the idea it was brought to accomplish in the first place: Mixing the unmixable. While the original felt like well thought out tale, the other games lacked that feeling of properly link the three different worlds the game was burrowing from. Most of the Disney worlds felt like "filler" material, and Final Fantasy started playing a much smaller role in the overlying story line.
So what should the series address in the future?
I put up a video explaining my own experience with the series, and further elaborating on what I would like the future games to address:
