Why We Should Support DRM-Free Video Game Services
DRM has been a pain in the last couple of years and publishers have implemented a system that actually punishes it's own consumers. In an attempt to fight off piracy, so many restrictions were put in place such as been "always online" to limit the amount of copies pirated. While the idea of protecting your product is understandable, the way DRM has been implement is far FAR from what the system is supposed to do. Pirates are going to crack your game and play it regardless, as many examples previously have shown. So why are you, as a publisher, putting in things that put restrictions on people who put their hard earned money in your wallets.
Recently however, I think the industry is beginning to understand that DRM is not really the right answer to all this. Ubisoft for example, after all the crap they threw on their previous games, have decided to completely abandon the insane DRM they were using. There is also a surge in DRM-Free Digital Distribution services such as gog.com that are attracting more publishers.
So in the video below I express my opinion on the matter and what we as a community can do to steer away to a more DRM-Free industry.
