I've been registered to this site since 2007 and I've done a TON of TL community meetups and events. They're so common in DC now I think we all take it for granted. I used to blog about the first few lans we had and the first few meetups because I was so awestruck that I found so many awesome Starcraft obsessed people that lived near me. As time went on I just started taking everything for granted and stopped really talking about it on TL outside of our community threads and other LAN threads. Plus with the emergence of SC2 it seemed to kickstart the community and just make everything bigger. Now with barcrafts and everything it seems like everyone can connect through real life so easily if they so desire it seems at times almost pointless to even talk about it. The growth really has been amazing but definitely reduces the exclusive/rarity of things that happened in the pre sc2 days. The DC group really is amazing though and I think one of the best sub communities on TL. Our core group of guys from broodwar days are still really close plus we've welcomed in countless of new comers over the years at all times.
Tonight something happened that has compelled me to share once again. One of our DC guys, CaucasianAsian recently left for Korea on Wednesday for 4 months for a study abroad program through his school. We knew to look for him on a proleague broadcast of course and expected to see him because lets face it, he's a white kid and we all know white kids are rockstars in the proleague studio. But the timing tonight for everything was so amazingly perfect it turned into one of those really awesome moments that I'm sure I wont be forgetting anytime soon. Part of the reason I want to write about this is I want Chris to know what happened, I know I would love hearing about this if it were the other way around.
StorrZerg who hosts ridiculously awesome cookouts at his place occasionally(this warrants a whole blog in itself to be honest, maybe another day) did one earlier tonight at his house. It started raining after sunset so the whole group of us had to go inside (about 15 people) into the basement where we started up a TV with proleague and were playing games of Mafia. Anyway it seemed like almost everyone in the room was watching the TV at the exact second OGN cuts to a shot of none other than CA and Kyle(deadz). Our whole room exploded and started screaming "IT'S CHRIS" everyone literally jumped up and just started high fiving everyone. It was one of those sporting event type moments you see happen all the time in sports bars or for other TV events, only this time it was for starcraft which made it way more amazing. btw deadz and his girlfriend Charisa are equally awesome people I've met through TL Mafia and are currently in Korea till 2013 or 2014 teaching English at a local school. Miss them both as well.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/AA4JE.png) "IT'S CHRIS AND KYLE OMFG!!!!!!!!!!"
Anyway there really isn't much more to share in writing, it was just one of those moments that made me really appreciate everything I've gotten out of being a member of this community and everything I've done through sc2. It was one of those moments where I just felt so happy for whatever reason, like I belonged there in that specific moment for that specific event. People sometimes ask me why I play or spend so much time hosting events or planning events or meetups for the local TL/SC community, I think moments like this make it all more than worthwhile and then some. Some of my best friends in life now are people I've met through this site/game and I wouldn't trade it for anything. If you're looking to get involved in your local TL or SC or esports community I highly recommend you take the initiative and start hosting events or going to meetups and just start meeting people. The life and soul of this game exists through the fans and people who work hard to make events and meetups happen. Contribute and help grow something that so many people share so much passion for and meet amazing people along the way. I hope everyone whos involved in esports gets to meet as many awesome people as I have over the years. <3 everyone.
I must sleep now thanks for reading. DC TL ftw.

yeah was kind of fate seeing CA on pro league cast on OGN with the bbq at Storr's/rain at the exact timing of Pro league/mafia, it was a bunch of events that coincidentally collided together, even ETT/wifey were there wtf? we all have taken this kind of stuff for granted imho. shout out to TL/DC/CA in korea, BRING ME BACK KT ROLSTER STUFF DUDE!

LOL. Nice write up Rob, and nice 10k Chris.
Was awesome seeing you on TV. We were flipping out a good 5 minutes after catching you on the big screen, I remember high fiving Rob who I think was the happiest of all.
Posting on the wife's account 'til Heyoka wakes up. ^_^

Loved your blog! I'd love to make it to a DC dinner some time this year.

Once in a rare while everything transpires so that something GOOD will happen! This seems to happen a disproportionate amount at BW/SC2 lans for some reason... which I'm not complaining about...
|
"Hey guys, let me play"
Oh God. Hopefully schedule is much better for Fall so I can go to more of the DC meetups.
|
i wish my city would have some sc2 fans aswell, to bad me another dude and the shaman of death(if anyone remembers him) are the only ones t_t

I remember going to one of these in 2008 or 2009 as well as a Proleague finals viewing at Haemonculus' place. Now I regret not going to more.

Holy fuck. No way this happened. 5/5

Great 10k CA, that's a classy-as-fuck way to do it (: <:
Fuckin hell guys. I'm so jealous of your meetups and fun you've had with TL people. Dammit, I'm wearing one of (my two) TL shirts as I write this, and I just feel like shit. Cause I've NEVER met ANYONE from TL, not once. Yeah there were one or two things on recently in Switzerland, but I wasn't in the country, and it wasn't for a game I care about.
Serious. I will NEVER watch a Brood Wars finals live with anything more than a Skype or Teamspeak call. yes /FellsLikeShit, no the sequel doesn't satisfy, and not the older community that I'm loyal to is breaking up with the game phasing out.
So for all you guys who lived it LIVE, cherish those memories, man, they're worth it. Not to say I haven't had great live experiences as well, or that you guys should be all down because of me, but really, enjoy it while it lasts ('':

Wow this is beautiful
And that 10k post, whoa.
What you wrote really resonated with me, I know exactly what you mean when you mentioned that kind of movie-like moment, but that it was truer than any feel-good movie could possibly be. Cheers ^^

Nice to see you there, CA and deadz, I assume Charisa was there as well. Hope you have fun with your study abroad, CA, and good luck to deadz and Charisa!

This reminds me of watching Sayle's stream when he got a shoutout on proleague via poster-thing (i know the name just can't remember atm)
I've found a ton of awesome people on TL, and it makes me smile to read this kind of thing

I could make a better thread about why the TL community isn't amazing.
I thought the op was funny... but that joke is so old and played out by this point that... sigh.

LuckyFool is probably the biggest suck up in SC history, This guy is absolutely pathetic. Always trying to get TL mods on his side, if there's anybody in the SC community that I despise and hate, it's that scrawny ass geek, LuckyFool. This kid spends his night and day on this website sucking mod cock 24/7. You should seriously consider getting a life, or better yet a job. You're garbage at SC1/SC2, and you'll always be. Your SC career doesn't even exist, give up now you tool. Oh and just to clear things, our record is 3-1. I've beaten you several times on my smurf, the only game you've beaten me was well, cus you're a lucky ass fool. Get outta here, geek.

Cool thread, and such an awesome 10k post.

Less than three. Good write-up Rob! I hope to make one of the LANs some day ='(
edit: There is no way that post a few above is not a troll....
2nd edit: I'd like to point out that Sayle recognized CaucasianAsian during his stream of the match and was like "OMG, was that CaucasianAsian??? I'm pretty sure it was!"
|
such an awesome 10k. I've only been to 2 sc related live events. 1 was the JvF finals where flash just stomped all over Jaedong, and I had to leave like immediately afterwards to catch a flight. The other was a local sc2 tourney where I think almost everyone there was like a decade younger than me, and there was at least one old guy that I think was someone's dad. Awkward.

Meetups are pretty sick. Meeting on of my AoV teammates last year at Dreamhack, playing BW with a guy I see online all the time was awesome. I'm so very excited about the BW winter LAN that I actually had a dream about it last night! Glad you guys had fun.

Lovin' this thread... and the wonderful 10000th post.
GG

Wait so thats Caucasian Asain? Darn it, I assume you were there for the KT vs CJ match aswell? I think I saw you guys there, but wasnt sure. Ill say hi next time if I see you any of you there
|
Hey I live in DC. How come I never go to the meetups?
|
I envy you, wish I could experience get-togethers like these. Literally nobody I know appreciates SC or even plays it for that matter. The closest I ever got to an SC party was meeting a guy who was a gold league SC2 player who hated the game and quit after like a month. Yep, people to discuss the game with or just have a kickass lan with is definitely something I am missing in my life. Believe me, I've been trying to convert friends for God knows how long but i don't think it's possible for someone who has never played a game other than the latest COD to ever see SC's true beauty. TT

Nice write up, without luckyfool, there would be no DC group. I think everyone should take a note from him, this man is superman, has a steady job, plays sc2, does dc tournaments. what a great guy
Now storrzerg, that man, well if you need a build order that will throw people off, just talk to this guy for 2 minutes, he'll tell you something, all of a sudden i see 3 koreans doing it next week. kids crazy.
No, but really, I am really happy i chose to come to DC cause this is probably the best experience i've had.
P.S. I miss you CA ;3

Storr was doing phoenix/immortal/zealot in pvp during beta! I remember being completely confused when he ran my army over... Always ahead of the curve. ;o
