I just stayed up the whole night and watched the OSL finals between Jangbi and Fantasy. It is now 7:25 a.m. in the morning. I am in a state of zombie-like staring and stupor. I want to capture this moment like a beautiful butterfly and then kill that butterfly and put it in a glass case so I can look at it forever.
I chatted on skype call for the first time with GeckoXp, and we conspired to kill ESPORTS together before the OSL finals. Then, L_Master, dRaW, and a few other people (including myself), all talked while watching the OSL final.
The story of the evening: RAGE
Our hero and hope for humanity, Sayle, was re-streaming the OSL final, and covered casting the amazingly exciting Boxer vs Yellow showmatch. I saw a prior showmatch at some all-star thing last-year-ish between the two, and it was total domination by Yellow, so I knew he would win, but the Boxer fans rallied around their hero, who hasn't won anything for years
Yellow crushed Boxer, coining the soon-to-be-iconic "Give me command" in reference to infesting Boxer's natural command center at the end of the game before Boxer gave Yellow a "sugoyo" and gg. Sayle insisted that his viewers go support OGN, but I vocally refused, saying "Screw OGN, Sayle 4 Life". That lifeline was cut short by OGN using their "copyright laws" to shut our illegal pirating operation down, and I had to switch over to the overly-dramatic and troll-filled OGN channel, which of course, was not moderated in the slightest, except to prevent people from saying the word "Sayle". Needless to say, that chat was horrid beyond all belief or comprehension, and people were all like "FUCK MOLETRAP."
Fuck Moletrap? Seriously?
Yo, Moletrap is a legend. Y'all need to appreciate. On the other hand, there were a lot of anti-Sayle people who were like "SAYLE IS SHIT."
Sayle is shit? Seriously?
I don't care what anyone says, Sayle is a good caster with a good heart, and is an amazing human being. I can't imagine him not having such wonderful fans that would spam a chatroom for 3 hours, because that's how much he inspires people. I personally prefer Sayle's casting over Moletrap's, but come on, people. C-c-come awn.
After that kind of died down, the whole "SC2 vs BW" debate broke out, only it wasn't a debate, it was more like people flinging feces at each other like wild animals and eating their own vomit, and gross stuff like that. There was some stupid shit about BroodWar people being samurais, and fans of both games calling each other elitists and just general idiocy. Good Lord... I felt ashamed to be a part of the same thing as those people. On the other hand, I'm kind of actually glad I play the same game with people with such passion, childish as that manifestation of the passion may be.
Don't get me wrong - I spent most of my attention watching the games and talking with dRaW and L_master. I couldn't pick a favorite because I love Fantasy and I love Jangbi. All my favorite Zergs stopped being good, so oddly enough, I don't have a Zerg that I like in proleague. It was so weird that my two favorite players in proleague ended up playing each other in the finals. The games were okay - the last two were kind of one-sided and + Show Spoiler + Fantasy just kind of fell apart it seemed. I know he was probably disappointed by his performance after doing so well this season in the OSL and team league games, but it was probably very high-pressure to play against such a reinvigorated Jangbi, who has really come back from a very long and depressing slump
It's a shame that so many people think BroodWar is "over". I'm going to get some sleep, and when I wake up, I'm definitely going to play some BroodWar.
Cheers, folks!
Great games! Thanks to dRaW, L_Master, GeckoXp, Hyeon for talking with me, thanks to Sayle and Omni for casting, Moletrap (even though I had his stream muted to talk on skype), that other guy casting with him, Supernovamaniac for translating, and to OGN for hosting the starleague! Hopefully, we'll see another one come up soon! BroodWar fighting! Goodnight! ^_^

Moletrap went balls to the walls (I hope this makes some sense) during this cast.
Also Sayle does sound like a nice guy.
At last, why do you even bother reading the stream chat? It's pure nonsense 99% of the time (in my experience). I mean, I like to have it open to see a series of "LOOOOOOLL" or "WOW", but I won't read anything longer that 4 or 5 words.
Oh well.
I would like to say something about BW but I can't find the words.

The finals were rather underwhelming as you said, but still epic because of all the surrounding atmosphere. idk why OGN decided to shit on sayle out of the blue, when he did so much for the community, that was in really terrible taste and at least i personally will remember it for a long time. Hopefully we will see many more BW tourneys like ISL or those chinese ones, with sayle casting

As John McCain said during the last election when people were trying to heckle him and his supporters were yelling back for them to shut up...
Pay no attention to the background noise

Moletrap has passion, but he isn´t a good caster
A lot of people in sc2 (Speaking in general now, not just moletrap) have gotten where they were at because of their passion alone. They were the only ones who dared to take up the torch. However, while we should be grateful for them laying the groundwork, we must be able to kill our babies and let those who are more skilled take over.

Are you really complaining about how anonymous youtube users act? C'mon bud. Kids on the internet love seeing what they can get away with saying (and I do mean kids, you are getting really mad at people who are most likely 8-19 years old). There will always be people on the internet experimenting with their boundaries who haven't matured enough yet to know it's more fun to get along and be considerate of others.
You were half way there with chatting with people you trust, all you needed to do was tune out the anonymous users. It's a shame you let something stupid like that spoil the final for you. I've been in Sayle's chat only once before, but it wasn't particularly better ;p The comments on TossGirl were as shameful as you'd expect the internet to be.

If it was really only the 8-19 year olds...

As much of a bummer as it was, the moderators for Twitch.tv and Ongamenet's watchdogs had to do their job and prevent copyright infringement. I was personally just amazed that OGN or MBCGame haven't done something similar in previous years to pirate streams. That's what happens when you're a hardcore gangster living on the edge like Sayle. Sometimes the pigs run up on you.

I know, right? xD
It was a bunch of grown men (maybe some other girls?) arguing about which video game was better, which is just one hair above arguing what would happen if Superman fought Godzilla or something like that.

It's usually a case of jumping in the bandwagon.
Whos is this Moletrap? Oh... people don't like him.. I guess I don't like him either.

Sayle is a great guy, dunno why bitches be hating. Build a grape fortress to keep out the haters. That or get a slower third gas.
So given the whole BW vs SC2 debate...
Are BW fans pirates or ninjas?
|
BW fans are Ninja Pirates.
Also, goddamnit + Show Spoiler +Fantasy was being cute in Game 1, and couldn't stick to just doing a deathball. Game 3 was just fuck-up after fuck-up. Game 4 was him being outplayed, period. Nice gamble from Jangbi to make him expect pure goon pressure and not the DTs.

The Grape Wall of China will defend Sayle from their brutality. I actually feel a lot worse for Moletrap, because Sayle had tons of people defending him, whereas Moletrap just got bashed to no end for something that wasn't even his fault.

hm
+ Show Spoiler + I don't think Fantasy was trying to be 'cute' in the first game per se. I liked the decision to go for a drop, but failing a harass against a very greedy Protoss build is a recipe for disaster. After Fantasy was beaten on Electric Circuit, I think that was really the last game for him and he was mentally beaten, because that game was such a painful-looking beat-down. In the last game, Fantasy saw that Jangbi went with one zealot before applying dragoon pressure, and dRaW was even screaming at Fantasy in the skype chat to get detection, but alas, I think the prior game took it's toll on Fantasy '-'

after the initial rage wore off at seeing sayle randomly censored after bringing us so many casts, moletrap turned out absolutely fantastic (with torch and i was super happy to hear Supernovamaniac there too, who is awesome and should keep casting/make himself more public/cast some amateur tournies)
fantasy looked SO FREAKIN crushed and bitter and couldnt believe what happened and have everything ripped out from under him with no chance of redemption. it must be so bitter and nasty for him to have his game ripped from him like this. jangbi had transcended so far that he didnt even give a shit, was just happy to be there, but my heart goes out to fantasy and i hope he recovers okay and understands that we are all there for him and proud of his power.
