CLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE
The night before I left for MLG, I was reading the player pool thread, and I saw a lot of people excited about SlayerS_Clide – either that or we just like to type Cliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide. I was inspired. Why not make a huge sign for Clide? So I did. Then I took it to MLG.
On Saturday, I got my chance to use the sign. Clide was going up against Thorzain on the small match stage. I grabbed the posters and boogied back there. When I arrived, the previous match was still going on. People were looking at me funny, because all they could see was a sign that read ”IIIDE.” I was showing people the sign when I noticed Clide himself standing in the back of the crowd. His eyes opened really big when he saw my sign, and he took a few photos of it. Then I asked him to help me hold it so I could get a picture too! Because of the awesomeness of the moment, other people took photos. One of them ended up on the front page of SC Reddit!
When Clide got into the chat, waiting for the match to start, he messaged the MLG caster. Their conversation went as follows:
Clide: Where’s Artosis?
Caster: Not near me.
Clide: I love Artosis
Caster: And he loves you!
If only Artosis had been around, the moment would have been brilliant. Although Clide lost, I hope that he will come to more MLGs. Maybe in Raleigh we can watch Clide on the main stage, and create a sign that spans the entire row of chairs. Now that would be epic. Cliiiiiiiiiiiiiiide Fighting!
SlayerS_Clide UPDATE
Clide asked me to tweet him the photo above and I did. This conversation followed:
Cliiiiiiiiiiiiiide Fighting!
HOTS
Of course I played HOTS. However, since I am pretty terrible at actually playing SC2, I only made two oracles and a tempest. The oracles were fun, but the tempest was not. It was not pretty, and it takes sooooooooo long to shoot. By the time I figured out how to morph my nexus so I could recall, my 20 minutes were almost up. I’m looking forward to the expansion, and the changes it will bring. And that’s my analysis. TL, time to hand over that iPad now! I’ll look for it in the mail. Thanks.
Kespa
There’s no cute story here, I just wanted to say how awesome it was to be there in person and watch these matches. Even if Jaedong hasn’t figured out that using the Nydus network to send queens into battle is horrible, the matches were still amazing. I loved being able to cheer on those players, and show them that they are entering into the future of ESPORTS. I want them to want to compete in foreign tournaments because of how awesome the fans are. I think we showed them that competing in a tournament like MLG is a sick experience, and one that they should aim for.
djWheat is Awesome
A fun little vignette: As the night got later and later, the crowd got more and more quiet – we were all sooo tired! But there was no way we were going to miss out on seeing the Kespa matches. One guy a few rows ahead of me made a sign on his iPad stating that we needed more caffeine. This was true. After the next match, djWheat walked down the row with a NOS in his hand. He asked who it was that needed more caffeine, and handed the guy the NOS, and then walked away. Hats off to that!
I swear, I'm not in the Mafia!
I played Mafia at this MLG. I didn’t manage to make it to the games at the other ones I had attended, so I was a “noobie.” However, I had spent many hours playing this game in college, and I was looking forward to participating. In the first game, I was one of two cops. The job of the cop, for the uninitiated among us, is to choose one person per night that the mod will confirm or deny is in the mafia. The first night, I chose rather randomly. The mod nodded at me – this guy was in the mafia, trying to kill my fellow townies. When day came, I kept silent, expecting that my role would be subtle and tricky. However, the townies requested that any confirmed mafia members be revealed immediately. I pointed out Mafia Man #1. There was arguing, as usual, but the townies took my suggestion and lynched him. One down, three to go. Now it’s night number two, and I’m getting a vibe about another person. I point. The mod nods. Two for two! But will the townfolk believe me? Fortunately, the second cop checked the same person, and together we were able to convince the townies to lynch him too. Two down, two to go. Night number three. I point to a third person. The mod nods. What?!?!? How can I get this lucky? The town will never believe me this time, no way no how. At dawn, I reveal the third mafia member. She refutes my claim. After a loooong bout of arguing, and thinking, and exclaiming, the town gives me the benefit of the doubt and lynches her too. Three down! Shortly after this, I was killed and went to join a new game, so I don’t know how the first game ended. It was a crazy start to my MLG Mafia career!
Third Time's the Charm!
Some of you may know that I made a TeamLiquid Fighting sign and took it with me to Providence. I managed to get all the Liquid members signatures on that sign except for Tyler. I took the sign to MLG Columbus, hoping to complete the set there. Sadly, I didn’t get any extra signatures at that event. I brought the sign to Anaheim, hoping for better luck. I found Zenio and got his signature, but NonY proved more elusive. I saw that he had a match on the small stage in the back, so I went to watch it. Sadly, he lost, and I didn’t bother to ask for a signature then. It seemed that all hope was lost, because there were no more matches for him to play. Then, Sunday, I realized that NonY’s name was on the list of players that would be making an appearance at the Barcraft. This was my chance. I’d be able to get his signature, surely! Excited, I took my sign to the Barcraft. There was a long line of people waiting to get autographs from many players. I spotted a row of blue shirts. Sheth, Jinro, Haypro, and Ret were all there … but no NonY! How to get his signature now? Luck was with me though. I learned that Tyler would be on the player panel, and they would be taking questions from the audience. I got in line. After waiting for a few guys to ask their questions, it was my turn. I asked Tyler if he would join his teammates and do me the honor of signing my sign. He agreed. I slipped under the ropes, he came down from the stage, and I finally had the most rare of achievements – Liquid’NonY has signed my sign!
I’m going to have to figure out how to find Taeja now … this may prove to be an even bigger challenge!
Cheers to you all, and thanks for reading this blog. LuckyFool, I hope I did not disappoint with my signs. I will attempt to create even more epic ones for Raleigh. See you guys there!
Zaranth out!
