I was bored (edit: read depressed ) tonight and decided to bootleg Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks", since i remember someone close to me used to like that song. I went for alot more softer approach this time, since i didnt make it to serve a club audience.
As with most of the stuff recently, its a free download, so if you like it, just go ahead and take it. I also compiled the free stuff in a easy to fetch list so feel free to browse if you want some new sounds in your playlist!

I love the original, and I don't usually listen to much electronic music but I liked the remix.
Browsing your other stuff now!

I like the vibe and soundset very nice.
For a critique I would say your orchestral pad needs some tweaking, it has a long attack time, and for some notes it doesnt hit at the right time. It sounds like your notes are probably all timed right, but you didnt go in and move them around to account for the attack on some notes.
Sometimes in order to get slow attack pads to sound really "on" you have to turn off snap and move the notes earlier in the pattern until they become audible at the time you want them to hit, even though they start before that. It can be a bit time consuming.

Hmmm, I like the original slightly better.

usually i just bounce and reposition the wave sample to account for it, but your critique is correct. this is a project that is tossed togheter during an afternoon and not a well polished master file, so there is definitelly more bugs than that in there aswell
Edit: To clarify, im not being lazy with my projects. But there are my big "secret" original projects that i work on for months, and then there are these smaller things i do to let off some steam or entertain myself in between. They are of a lower quality in general.

Moving the source wave will often not work becuse the brain recognizes different pitches as audible at significantly different volume levels. Low notes can typically have a long attack and still sound alright, but for higher notes the brain expects them to have a shorter attack to sound correctly timed or be played earlier. Especially orchestral higher notes are expected to have a shorter attack than low notes in most situations.

Like this a lot, nicely done!
(And I personally like the long attack on the orchestral pad!)

when it comes to popular music with a trademark sound, its usually pretty hard for a remix to 'be better' than the original. I like the original song and didnt have any ambition to improve it because im not sure its possible. I have someone close to me that loves this song, and i wanted her to have her very own version of it...

wife and I liked the original, we couldn't get past the 1/4 mark. something was off for us. keep up the work though, there is potential.
