Next month I move in with Serif and we have agreed to get a cat together!
We had decided we would like to get a Bengal, due to their playfulness and energy. However, they do cost $700 each!
I put out a post on craigslist that I was looking for a cat and just got a reply today. I was contacted by a shelter this afternoon that there was a 2 year old Bengal cat that had come in and needed a home.
I went to the shelter to meet him and it was love at first sight.
He was sleeping when I came in, so I stroked his forehead gently through the cage. He woke up and got super lovely with my hand. I walked around to check out the other cats, but they were all either scared or disinterested in me. When I came back to his cage, we played "catch the fingers" through the cage and I let him lightly nibble on me when he won.
One of the staff asked me if I wanted to hold him and took him out of the cage for me. She put him in my arms and he became overjoyed! I have never had a cat be actually happy to be held, but he started giving me "kisses" to my face and snuggling up against my neck. It was non-stop love an affection from this kitty!
I signed all of the papers and paid my fee and took him home with me! He got a little scared in the car ride, but I pulled him onto my lap (he had broken out of the cardboard carrier they gave me) and he hunkered down. After a quick stop to get supplies, when I got back to the car, he was sitting where I had left him (in the passenger seat) and chilled there for the rest of the drive home.
He explored my room a bit when I brought him back, but I pulled him up onto my bed to show him the window, then joined him up there to start on my homework. He settled down right next to my feet and took a nap.
I called my mom to tell her and every time I spoke loudly enough to wake him up, he'd make a little chirping noise and stretch out, then go back to sleep. It is super adorable!
He doesn't actually "meow" at all, he makes little chirps and "meurp" sounds, all in fairly high pitches. He isn't too talkative, but he certainly likes to lay on the affection when he does!
Anyway, he's napping against my feet again as I write this. Here are some pictures!

good for you, always good to find a home for these little buggers
I want to adopt a cat myself but apartments here in Japan have very strict rules about pets (especially cats) so it's difficult for me.

So cute <3 what are you going to name him?

I haven't decided yet. I'm really not good at coming up with male names.
I'll probably let Serif decide on the name, but let me know if you have any good ideas!

You just did it for the karma. Admit it.
|
You mean you summoned a kitty, right?
That would make for some adorable/hilarious/cool cosplay though

It was a good decision to adopt one. There is no need to buy living animals when others are waiting for someone to pick them up in an overcrowded shelter.

He looks similar to my cat. I adopted my cat 4 years ago.

Power to you, madam. Thinking about adopting a cat myself when I move closer to my university.

Really cute cat :-) Really happy to see people adopting animals.
I actually had a dog that we found on a street (she was at most 4 months old and in terrible shape) and now my sister have a cat that she also took from a street... My sister and I have really soft spot for homeless animals...

It only cost me $50 for when it was all said and done... but I went out and spent another $50 on litter, food, and a harness and leash.
Yes, I am going to walk my cat.

It looks like he has the letter M in a circle on his side so I think an M name would be cool ^^ I like 1-2 syllable names for pets makes it easier / sounds cuter when you call them. My male cat is named Pez btw. possible names: Marco Mushi Maru Mako(in honor of one of the greatest voice actors ever) Mew(i think its long enough past pokemon craze that it's acceptable) Maji
