Day 3 Streaming
This one has taken me a little while to get to, and I've not really laddered in the interim. My time has been taken up by a few LAN's, where I played a lot of monobattles, HoN, Tribes Ascend, and also got a DotA2 beta invite. I have done a few quiet ladder games with no great success, and also played my first match in the SASL Season 3 (http://www.sasl.net.au)
Ladder Game 1 - Cloud Kingdom LE - Replay
My first game is against QuestionMark, a Terran player on the map Cloud Kingdom LE. Armed with some of the advice given to me in the previous blog I move towards putting some of that in to play with a forward pylon at my natural followed by my cyber with some bonus harass with my scouting probe. I add an extra gate and 2 more pylons before calling my wall off done. I also have 2 Stalkers and a Zealot at around 6 mins to deal with early pressure.
Fit for purpose, less useful against terran of course...
I bank some minerals and drop the early Nexus at the same time my second stalker completes. I encounter his Marine Marauder push at the same time i push out and pull back to the high ground, but falter in holding him to the ramp, so my Zealot dies unnecessarily.
Running away from a battle tipped in my favour
I then kill both of his marines and chase his marauders away, Where he has reinforcements and i lose another stalker.
During this time I neglect to build any troops or infrastructure, so I'm floating 500 minerals and 300 gas. I warp in a stalker and a sentry, however a couple of Zealots probably wouldn't have gone astray. His force of 8 marines and 4 Marauders quickly decimates my army and I surrender the battle.
Learning Points
+ I had a couple of mis-steps this game,
- Attacking his 2 marine 2 marauder push with my 1 zealot 2 stalker would have worked in my favour and reduced his push that killed me
- Chasing his Marauders back after he's killed a Zealot wasn't necessarily a problem, however I should have pursued earlier to maybe get that bonus marauder kill, and also pulled back earlier to not lose the stalker.
- When his big push fell back to the ramp and the rocks, If I had again pursued and force fielded the
ramp i would have done significant damage to his push, and perhaps would have deflected it.
Perfect force field opportunity
+ Keep building units and infrastructure while I'm microing
+Get an Immortal or 2 out earlier. It took me until just after 8 mins to have the Robo down. With 1-2 Immortals that push would have been easily deflected, I was also on 2 base to his 1 so that would have put me in a very good position.
Ladder Game 2 - Tal'Darim Altar LE - Replay
For this game I'm against a platinum Protoss player, Shadalar again I try and follow advice given to me from the previous blog, 3 Stalker push strategy, I've not had a chance to practice this at all, i thought this would be a good chance to try it. I wall off at my main, unsure if i should only wall off against zerg or not. I push up to 3 gates, start my warp tech and push out my first stalker. My scout probe is still alive and i place a proxy pylon between his natural and 3rd. I push out to his base with a force of 4 Stalkers
He gets a Zealot into my main which i take care of, but in the mean time he destroys my main force at his base, of which i also alert him to my proxy pylon by running away back behind that. He then warps in at his proxy pylon and pushes out with the force that killed my army. Force fielding at my own wall off
Would this have gone better had I not walled off?
I lose my cyber here, and in my haste to rebuild it, I lose the rest of my defending forces. At this point I'm quite frustrated, as it's my play that's letting me down. I leave the game. I do feel that the 3 stalker push, if i executed it a little better (practice) would have been very strong for this. He also utilised a Warp Prism during his main push, a pylon to that side of my base would have helped
Learning Points
+Don't fall back to your proxy pylon when you're losing your main force
+Pay attention to the minimap, the zealot that distracted me in my minerals would have been easily dealt with had I seen it earlier.
+Don't wall off vs races other than Zerg? Not sure on this point.
+Pylons covering drop locations in my main.
[b]Ladder Game 3 - Entombed Valley - Replay
Game 3 is against a Zerg player named Indy on the FFE friendly map, Entombed valley. I move my second probe out to the natural and drop a pylon, wasn't really happy with the placement of this one. I then mis-hotkey and build a gateway instead of a forge. I decide to roll with it and get up a cyber straight after. I get a second gateway up and finish my wall off as his force of lings rolls through my base. At this point creep starts to spread into my main, and I realise what's happened. While I was microing my scout probe around his base, he's used his scout drone to build a Hatchery in the bottom right corner of my main. I rage-quit SC2 and open up DOTA2, where 2 lose 2 more games. Just wasn't my night for gaming.
[b]Learning points
+ Minimap awareness
+ FFE would have thinned his Zergling numbers to a non-threatening level. Would have also assisted defending the proxy hatch in my main. I could also have cancelled my Fast expand for some bonus minerals to get more cannons up.
Ladder position post games
Oh well, better luck next time!

SASL Season 3, Round 1 - C4NT.Seeton vs TAFadey
Game 1 - GSL Daybreak - Replay
My opponent, Fadey is a Diamond level Protoss player on the SEA servers, to make these games a little more interesting for himself, and also because he's not a fan of the PVP match up, he plays Zerg for Game 1. I harass a little with my scout probe, and start working on my wall off. I note a fast expand from him, he rushes in and gets a assimilator up in my base, i wasn't looking to get it straight away yet, so it's not an inconvenience to me. I take out the neutral depot and drop an expand out. I've moved up to 2 gate robo, and drop a 3rd gateway as well as a forge at my natural. Pushing out an Obs first and building up an immortal shortly thereafter. I build a robotics bay and move accross to pressure his natural.
I drop a pylon at the bottom of the ramp, and rally a couple more units accross the map, pushes at my army a couple of times, I pull back to the bottom of the ramp but forget about the rally point for the Robo, my first colossus pushes out and up the ramp, by himself.
Oh the pain, the pain of it all...
I attempt to pull back but have nothing, fearing muta's I've already build cannons behind the mineral line. Fadey throws them away while I start to rebuild my decimated army, I move a force of around 10 zeals to his 4the while moving up the middle to hold the XN towers. His hold of the XN tower closest to my base triggers him to it, but he can't find them. I move up to the middle of the map and send the zeals down to his 3rd, pulling his army back, i then move the bulk of my force up to his XN tower, revealing Broodlords. At this point i attack, when realistically i should have pulled back and attempted to tech faster.

Game 2 - GSL Metropolis - Replay
Game 2 is on the GSL Map Metropolis, I pick it more for it's interesting map style, although I've only played a handful of games on it. Turns out that's more than Fadey has played here! I do a standard 3 gate robo opening witha proxy pylon placed just off the beaten path for fadey. I start teching warp gate and gearing towards an 8 minute push. I'm expecting an early ling pressure here due to the result of the last game. I move out of my base at 8 mins and also do a scout of his 3rd. I do another warp in of zealots as he only has lings. My attack lands at 9.30 but i move just to contain. I keep warping in units.
Pretty strong Toss force
I push in at 11.30 with my army and wreak havoc, he pulls all of his drones, has 5 spines, and a butt load of lings. I crush the army with ease and take out his natural.
Drones pulled battle
I expand behind this and move up his ramp mainly with the intention of blicking him doing a run by, I warp in a couple more units and push up, accidentally clicking the macro hatch. I take a lot of damage here and lose most of my army, however i've killed a lot of drones and taken down an expansion at this point. I drop double forge at my natural and fill the hole up with Zealots. Building a few extra gates and taking a gas at my natural, I move to quickly replenishing my army. I use my obs to spot him rebuilding his Natural and move out with my 9 zealot 5 stalker 1 sentry force, He does a run by and kills all my probes at my natural, My counter push takes out his natural, I repel his attack in my base and take a 3rd as i push in to his main. He has banelings this time but are largely soaked by a zealot wall. He GG's shortly after
Game 2 Victor: Seeton.
SASL Season 3, Round 1 - C4NT.Seeton vs TAFadey
Game 3 - Tal'darim Altar LE - Replay
Game 3, Fadey picks Tal'darim altar with the intention of moving back to Protoss(his main race) and 4-gating me. He decides against going protoss though and moves to his second best race, Terran.
I build at my Main's choke and get a 2gate robo up. I move to kill his scout scv and intercept a reaper. Using my probes i force the reaper back into my Zealots open arms. I lose 1 probe for 1 Reaper. I'm pretty happy with that!
He just wants a hug!
Fearing further reaper play drop a zealot and Stalker at the jump up and a pylon just for extra vision.
I get a pylon up at my natural and move my forces to there to secure it. I scout with a probe and see a largish Marine Marauder ball. Placing a pylon near his 3rd just before seeing this. I move to take my natural now. Warp gate still isn't done and i'm still pumping out a bunch of zealots due to building high gas structures (Twilight and Robo), he scans and spots a large force of zealots. Moving in he kills off my mostly zealot army. My immortal pops shortly after and a round of zealots fends off the first push.
3HP, No problems right?
Shortly after he sends a force of 12 Marauders and 9 marines, at this point I try and scramble a couple of options up, but find it largely fruitless. He pushes in and crushes my army.
GG Fadey!
