Today i recieved this call from this dude who said he work for microsoft and my computer got hacked.
I followed the callers steps to see what he wanted me to do. During the call i could hear lots of Indians speaking the same lines in the background. They got me to managed my pc and tried to tell me that generic errors and warnings from the security log was infact a virus or trojan horse. and that all 8 of my pcs were infected.

He then got me to go on the internet and tried to get me to click the main button that runs a exe on their homepage (Ammyy.com).

At this point I knew it was a scam and start asking him some question about how this is not a scam to actually hack my computer.

He transferred me on to his supervisor!!

he asked if everything was alright. I then told him that i was just playing along with his call too waste his time and work out what he wanted me to do so i could warn other people not to follow their steps. He then quickly hung up on me . (first time a telemarketer has hung up on me!).

I get these calls pretty often. I normally just laugh at them and then hang up. Not even worth my time to abuse them.

If someone calls out of the blue about my computer, they better be from my ISP. Or else they are going to get trolled horribly as I ask them how to open my Windows console to manage my computer from the command line using WINE.

Also, you STILL should scan the hell out of your computer. There are drive-by attacks to worry about as well, which do not require you to click anything. Just to be safe, y'know.
Yes, I email sponsors... to thank them. Don't post drunk, kids. My king, what has become of you?

Ammyy's a legit program, but these guys are trying to screw your computer through using it. Glad you caught it before they got too far with it.

When I am on days off I usually try to keep these guys on the line as long as possible, like I will say my computer is so infected and slow that it takes forever to start up or load screens (which gets them more excited as it makes them look even more legitimate) then I go make some food or crack a drink etc... after my record of 45 minutes he ended going "You.... sir.... are JUST THE BIGGEST COW" which made all of my efforts absolutley worth it!

I believe it's for remote connections, which can be used legitimately for customer support.

It's a program that lets someone take control over your computer from a remote location. It's perfectly fine and good, but not if you give it out to people you don't know so they can install whatever they want on your pc.

http://www.ammyy.com/en/admin_mu.html

Although I use teamviewer so don't have any personal experience ... perfectly legit site, misused by scammers seems like the conclusion.

Out of curiosity, even if you did run it, couldn't you just disconnect your internet and then uninstall it to undo whatever they did? I realize it would be stupid and they could damage your comp/steal info but just hypothetically...

Of course it's fine to install it, but then afterwards they ask you to give them access, and then you are fucked.

So we all know that the program and site is legit, but the caller is full of shit. Hmmmm...

Isn't this illegal?

They probably tell you it is fixed and you hang up. If you installed the program you obviously don't know it is a virus. Once installed I expect they would do one of the following:
1) Scan for useful information like passwords, identities to sell, credit card number ,etc.
2) Install a background service that makes your computer part of a botnet.
In either case you should not notice anything and even if someone tells you it is a scam they have likely already scanned for passwords, etc. and uninstalling the remote control program will not uninstall the botnet client or delete their information they already obtained. They may even install a second hidden remote access program that you do not know about.

I did some research and it seem after you download the program the say they will fix it but for a fee

I wonder if this is the same "company" that called me...

I had a similar experience with a guy who was calling from "The Microsoft Security Center" and that I had a virus on my PC.

Due to the fact that there are like 10pcs in my house, I was instantly suspicious... I played along with the guy for about 30 seconds until he told me to go to some website (I forget the name) and download something... at this point I said "Ok guy, I've got a good antivirus, and youre clearly running some scam, so plz dont call me again with your shit".

And the guy FLIPPED OUT.

He went on saying stuff like (and I'm not exaggerating at all) "You little fucker, who the fuck do you think you are calling this a scam! I'm gonna come to your house and kill you!"

I was laughing about it, telling the guy to calm down, and that his supervisor probly wouldnt appreciate him trying to kill me, but he kept throwing his death-threats at me, and eventually hung up.

After I called the cops (this guy was clearly insane) and some officers from the communications department came by and took a statement.

Anyways, thats my story about probly the same guys the op is talking about, I'd say judging by that, this is all a big scam and can easily be ignored =P
