So I'm doing an AIN/HSA(Assistance in nursing/Health service assistance) course, intending to work as a shit scrubber for a year until I can enter uni to do paramedics since I'll be 21(over here that's when you're a 'mature age' for uni i.e you don't need to get a high 'atar' which is the end of year 12 score, I got 10 below what I needed for paramedics so I never even bothered with trying and wasting money on getting rejected) and during class where we were look at the reproductive system and disorders and diseases with it, we eventually discussed testicular cancer.

Now before we get into that conversational topic, I'll shed some background information on the reasoning of this blog.

Since I was 16(I'm nearly 20 now) I've had a '3rd testicle' is what I called it. I went to a doctor 2 months ago and finally got it checked. He said 'don't worry, it's just a hydrocele, they can happen for no reason. I'll get you to get an Ultrasound just in case'. I still haven't got the Ultrasound yet because the doctor who I saw moved, so I need to get another Ultrasound referral sheet, so I'm going up to my local doctors tomorrow to get a pathology referral and then ask him for an Ultrasound referral, but that's on a different tangent. I know I should of got the Ultrasound ASAP but life doesn't turn out that way, the Monday after I went to the doctors I ended up signing up for this nursing course, so 3 days a week that I didn't know I was going to be unable to go to the radiologist, so I postponed to the next week when I knew my days I would be attending the course, then I find out my doctors moved on, but the US can still be read with a different doctor at the same clinic. Right now though I'm just going to go up to a doctor 10 mins away rather then 45 mins, so I've got to wait for another referral.

Now what's confusing to me, is when my doctor told me it was a hydrocele, he wasn't too concerned. But during the course, I learnt that combined with other pre-existing conditions specifically having a necessary Orchiopexy (Undescended testicles which need to be surgically lowered and sometimes anchored) results in a higher chance of testicular cancer, my teacher didn't know why but there's more people who had an Orchiopexy getting testicular cancer then people who didn't. Now, we also learnt that hydroceles can sometimes mean nothing is wrong, or a hernia somewhere, but we were told to report all hydroceles no matter what size as there is a high potential for testicular cancer especially in patients between the age of 15-40. Hydroceles are painless mass in the scrotum which can cause discomfort if they're large enough, but not pain. I've seen my local doctor before for some vaccination shit we needed to do, and he said is there any pre-existing medical conditions and I told him I had a hydrocele and he was shocked that I had one. Which makes me even more worried.

So anyways now, I'm sitting here in the state I was when I first felt these pains(I was an emotional wreck for a few days thinking of only the negative things it could be) and I'm terrified and shaking in fear of what it could be AGAIN. I've been getting a lot discomfort which is meant to be normal, and sharp pains especially just after sitting up from laying down, laying down from sitting up, or just sitting and raising myself, as well as just seemingly randomly. I've tried to self diagnose but I can't come up with an answer to if it is indeed a hydrocele or not, because it's a round, hard ball, and inside of it is fluids as the doctor shone a torch through it. Hydroceles are meant to be soft and usually starts from the base of the scrotum, but this one is sitting above my right testicle.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, I'm going to a doctor my family goes too, so I know his trustworthy while the other one I just went to because this doctor wasn't working on the day I got the 'balls' to call and make an appointment. Now that I know I had an Orchiopexy I can tell him which might help him. If people want to be kept posted, I'll do it.

If anyone has any theories, feel free to post them!

What a great way to get people to talk about your balls. All I know is it's not Lupus... it's never Lupus.

Get the ultrasound ASAP! It will take a lot off your mind. Had a small 1cm lump that I noticed for like three years before I finally got the balls to ask the doctor about it, ultrasound found that it was just an epididymal cyst. Either way try to get it ASAP!

A friend of mine had a hydrocele once and was quite proud of it!

Also I tend to find that if one is worried enough about something, then one finds that all the symptoms point to the worse possible situation. When in reality it is just paranoia. In fact, I find that if you look hard enough on the internet you can find information that tells you anything. I bet that the internet could use your lump in your scrotum to prove you are actually pregnant.

In short, I think you'd be best to try not to worry about it! Positive thought!!!!

Whenever there's a testicular mass you should get an US as soon as possible. There are clinical findings (whether the mass is tender, whether it's painful or not, it's consistency, it's evolution time, etc), which can suggest a diagnosis, but only an US and eventually a biopsy can confirm or reject a diagnosis of testicular cancer.

I can't tell you the most likely diagnosis without an examination, but what I can tell you, is you should get that ultrasound soon, because even if the diagnosis is actually a hydrocele, it will help you be more calm about your condition.

Undescended testicles do have a higher chance of eventually developing cancer, but orchidopexy is usually done early enough to diminish that chance to the minimum possible, even though it's still higher than a normal testes' chance.

All in all, get that ultrasound, it was scheduled for a reason, stop delaying it.
