Hey there,

some of you guys might know that I like to cook, some of you might not know. However whenever I made something I usually take pictures and share them with you. I really like Jamie Oliver and his dishes but I do also enjoy kitchen from all over the world.

I don't really like to overdo things and do very tricky stuff, because I don't think its needed and I think the beauty of a good meal lies in combining simple tastes so something that you can agree on is a well rounded meal.

If you want to check out what I did before

http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=250292

http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=250296

So... the weekend is coming up and I'm not exactly sure what I'll do but I plan on inviting some friends and have a good evening drinking, smoking waterpipe watching good movies or Starcraft ... and cook! But what is there for me to cook?

What did you guys try and what can you recommend? It doesn't need to be simple, it needs to taste good and shouldn't need 4-5 hours to prepare, but its no problem if it takes time to be prepared. I'm looking for something you can put on the table and everyone can enjoy it like a Chili for example. A chili with fresh good bread and sour creme is awesome to have...

But yeah, what do you wish me to cook / what can you recommend?

Grill a whole fish! I did it last weekend for the first time ever, and it's great for putting on a large plate, having everybody eat from it kind of dish. I went for a rainbow trout, scaled it, scored, seasoned the inside and outside, coated with olive oil, stuffed the inside with tangelo slices(can pretty much use any kind of citrus you prefer really), and various herbs(I really really wanted to use marjoram last weekend[has a great earthy, pine, citrus-y smell to it], but whole foods didn't have it). Got it today for tomorrow though!) Dill, lemongrass, and chives work well for herbs to stuff with if anything.Grilled whole fish is quite amazing!

Shougayaki is something I could serve as a side dish, as well it basically is jus marinated pork. Not something very filling or satisfying at least to me. Grilling a whole fish would be something I've never done before but its not a bad idea, but I'm not too sure about it either as there are a lot of people who don't like fish haha.

If I'd choose to do that, I'd probably go for a rose fish (red perch).

I don't like the idea of the Korean BBQ too much, because I prefer to go out for Korean dinner with friends :-)!

you eat shougayaki with white rice and then have other various side dishes. it is a main, not a side. but, whatever, your dinner.

Can you post in a more cocky way...? Meat usually is a main dish, but if you are going to write off a suggestion and don't add anything you might not suggest anything at all. Ofcourse I am aware that Shougayaki needs a side dish to it, but since I'm not too familar with the japanese cuisine I don't know what I should serve to it...

=.= thanks anyways.

i will leave your blog, but the way you dismissed three suggestions was rather rude to me. ironic that you call me cocky.

I didn't just write them off, but replied to them. I am asking for suggestions which doesn't mean that I will cook everything that is suggested. I don't feel like I would be able to serve my friends a good Korean BBQ and we rather enjoy going out for a Korean BBQ.

I did reply to you saying I could use your suggestion as a side dish as its not something I'd do as a main dish even though it is one in Japan. I didn't write it off. About cooking a whole fish to me its a very good suggestion, yet there are people that don't like fish as much thus preparing such a meal could end up having a lot of left overs... so, I took my time replying to every single suggestion and thats rude to you?

:/ Seriously.

I need to check out if I can get my hands on a heater that keeps the pot boiling/simmering, other than that it seems like a good choice to go for. ^_^!

pulled pork, slaw with various forms of breads/wraps including various condiments.

To add to the theme toss in something else moderately easy that goes well with in the form of like potato skins, or baked potato's, or random other appetizer style dishes.

You might be better off browsing chefkoch.de or something similar, but:

try phili cheesesteak, you can prepare for your friends or put the ingredients on the table. easy to make, not healthy, but tastes amazing. served some friends and they called it something in the lines of 'best fastfood ever'.

http://www.kochrezepte.de/hauptspeise-fleisch-rezepte/philly-cheese-steak-sandwich-49582.html basic recipe, but sure you can modify in the way you like, if you want advice say so.

Can't make pulled pork as you need a smoker and I don't have one. Also you need to 'cook' it for 10-16 hours..? :x

You don't need a smoker for pulled pork. What's the problem with 10-16 hours? Its extremely un-involved.

I'd go for fried chicken. Google for Thomas Keller's recipe if you're interested. Fried chicken is fucking good.

If you have experience making lasagne, you can easily make a moussaka.
I cut aubergines and potatoes in slices and lay them with some olive oil at the bottom of a dish like the one you used for your lasagne and baked them for a while. You can fry the slices of aubergine instead for more taste, but it's also more oily.
Then for the sauce, I fry the minced beef with garlic, onion, cumin, cinnamon, black pepper, salt, herbs. Then I add some red wine some fresh tomatoes and some tomato paste. Cook until it has the same texture as your lasagne sauce.
Now I have like 3cm of baked sliced aubergines and potatoes at the bottom of the dish. I add all the meat sauce over it. Then I add a layer of homemade bechamel sauce flavored with some nutmeg power, some grated cheese on top. If you don't know how to make a good bechamel sauce you can use the same cream topping as your lasagne. Bake again.
Have a round of waterpipe before eating !
