I currently am debating on if I should switch to terran or not. I am simply tired of all the mirror matches I end up doing. Out of 12 games yesterday only 4 were not a pvp. I guess what I really want to know is if there are as many protoss players in the high leagues as there is in the low leagues? Will I get hate from all the Idra fan boys if I play terran? (Yes I do know my signature is some old fashioned idra hate) Also I somehow manage to win pvz but I really have no idea what to do after my forge fe.

You will get almost as many mirror matches playing any race, go ahead and try out Terran but think about it real hard. I've went from Z>T>Z and now playing Random to get the hang of all races and limit the number of mirrors I get. I still suck with Terran though.

Generally TvT is the least painless-but-hard-to-play mirror. But the trade-off is late-game TvP, where a terran might as well grind their wrists against sandpaper for how hard it is to engage a colo/HT deathball.

It's simply because everyone that's bad and plays lower leagues, usually ends up playing toss. i played like 5 toss games in bronze and made the switch to t, i also perfected like 4 or 5 different builds, and i don't all in or cheese any more on ladder. i like to play long macro games to get the most out of my practice for when i do play.

by the way i am platinum rank 50 i think, I am probably am going to get promoted because of how much i learned in the past few months about timings macro and decision making, add me on NA i can help you get better with terran no doubt!

Edit: by the way i have skype and a decent microphone, and i am over 18

One of the reasons you get more mirrors is that people of the same faction will ban the same maps I believe. I'd stick with protoss and try to really learn the ins-and-outs of 2-base play then gradually move towards a more macro style.

You could practice with Terran for some time. But since you are in bronze, you will probably get even MORE mirror matchups and TvT is not forgiving in the lower leagues. If you can handle mass cloak bansheese, stim timing pushes, 3 rax all-in, 6 rax all-in etc. Then do it.

Protoss is the best race to start with and get up in the higher leagues. After gold/platinum you can change to Terran or Zerg because they are races that are not as forgiving. Although it is debateable but this is all my opinion.

You said that you don't know what to do after FFE. Well, this probably means that you don't know what do to in most cases. You should get a general gist of builds by looking at some replays from progamers or maybe read some of the threads in the Strategy forum. Generally a FFE leads to 5 gates and a robo, 6-7 gates to all-in or 4-gates and heavy upgrades.

Mirror matches are difficult no matter what race you play. The question is whether you would rather play ZvZ or TvT than PvP.

(I personally find PvP to be completely impossible, but I like ZvZ a lot. Other people say they feel lost playing ZvZ).

That said, you're in bronze. Just 4-gate and win vs every race.

I am considering switching to random...just because.
Plays against every MU with nexus first.

Don't do that.^ It doesn't help you at all in the long run. It's viable enough in low level PvP, but don't go 4gate in every matchup. It will just slow you down in the longer run. I made the same mistake.

Learn a midgame behind the FFE. A poster above gave some good examples.

I don't know if it is mirror match-ups in general that you don't like, or specifically PvP, but we all hit mental blocks in out match-ups. Instead of thinking of switching, try to refresh your style when playing the match-up, try something new. Or instead of just playing ladder mindlessly, try to prepare builds, tighten them, and just practice them. Go into each game with a game plan.

You get the point, work with what you have instead of instantly jumping the gun and switching race (well, I don't know how long you have struggled in this situation, but that is my two cent)

You're in bronze ? Just play random .
Actually if you're not master and more, I recommand you to play all the races, you don't need to know all the build, and it's great to have an intution on "the other side of the match-up". It's not like if you were a pro and have to keep up with the competition . ANd if you don't like your new race, nothing prevents you to get back to protoss

I personnaly considered many times to switch races (by that I mean laddering at my current MMR with the other race), and stayed zerg essentially because I found the 2 other mirror match-up even worse than ZvZ.

If you think you hate pvp, just wait until you start playing 40+ minute long tvt games. Pvp may be pretty painful, but at least it is short

Actually I disagree. At the bronze level, mechanics are very important. Practicing a 4 gate will develop the following skills:
a) executing a build order without supply blocking yourself or missing production cycles
b) allow you to practice your micro skills in smaller engagements instead of huge deathball scenarios
c) work on doing both of the above at the same time (multitasking)
d) allow you to be aggressive and see what your opponent is doing (since bronze players often have difficulty with scouting)

The OP should not be trying to play more adaptive, long-game styles until he has the ability to execute a simple aggressive build without failing his macro or micro.

I got to plat in beta by simply executing 7 roach rush (before roach supply nerf) and then in release by doing baneling bust vs T. Over time my build orders branched out, but it all started with the fundamental macro, micro, and multitasking skills that I developed by doing the same builds over and over again. It didn't slow me down a bit. I was high diamond when I quit playing frequently about six months ago, and I'm now trying to push for Masters.

If you want to avoid mirrors then play team games. I doubt the learning advantages of 1v1 are really important until plat or diamond at least. Just practice execution/macro/micro

Actually I guess the real advice I'm giving is play any race and format that gets you actually playing the game more. If your in bronze there really inst any need to specialize in anything yet. Its really easy to have a simply opening build for all 3 races, so you really don't need to remember complex builds for the races yet.

Just playing a lot of games, with a general focus on "macro games" in by far the best practice you can get. Until high masters/GM at least.
