Hello everyone, my ID is Memento and this is my first blog. I made a New Years resolution this year to beat every Legend of Zelda game without using walkthroughs. (Excluding spin-off games, CGI games, and Four Swords Adventure). I thought about which order to play the games in and decided instead of going with a random selection or following the recently released official timeline, I will play in order of release dates. I plan on updating this blog weekly with my progress, my struggles, and hilarious stories along the journey.
![[image loading]](http://images.wikia.com/zelda/images/0/09/The_Legend_of_Zelda_-_Ocarina_of_Time_(logo).png) Legend... wait for it.... Of Zelda. HELLL YEAH
Why did I decide to do this you might ask? Well growing up Legend of Zelda was my favorite series. One of the first games I legit beat by myself on my SNES was Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. Onward from there I save up all my allowance for a year to buy a N64 and waited for Orcarina of time to come out. I looking at every monthly Nintendo Power in excitement to see new screen shots and updates. This was before my family owned a computer or the internet and news was relayed soley from these magazines. I specifically remember the first big amount of screen shots coming out (around 200 I think) and showing everyone how real it looked and it was the best graphics there ever was.
![[image loading]](http://www.vizzed.com/videogames/n64/screenshot/Legend%20of%20Zelda,%20The%20-%20Ocarina%20of%20Time%20-%20Master%20Quest-3-full.jpg) Real Life: This is what it looks like. Sadly when the game came out, I couldn’t afford it since I spent all my savings on an N64. So I had rented it but basically only got past the first kid dungeon in three days and was craving more. Patiently waiting for Christmas where I put OoT on my letter to Santa. After opening all my presents at home with no OoT in site, my heart dropped.
![[image loading]](http://goshycab.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/sad-kid.jpg)

Afterwards me and my mom went to my grandparents where I had one present to open. However, it was not the shape of a small rectangular box like an N64 game would be in. Instead it came in a larger slim rectangular box. I expected to be disappointed. Opening the box I see a box of corn Pops, and while I loved corn pops for breakfast I didn’t understand the gift. My grandparents persuading me to open the box further. To my delight and surprise there it was OoT and I held it over my head imagining the classic item music (DA NANA NAAAAAA).
![[image loading]](http://www.meijer.com/assets/product_images/styles/xlarge/1001029_038000391118_A_400.jpg) WAT? EDIT:
Previous Experience with the games: 1986 The Legend of Zelda - Have beat probably 3 dungeons in the past 1987 The Adventure of Link - beat first dungeon and it was too hard 1991 A Link to the Past - beat about 5 times 1993 Link's Awakening - played probably 25% throuugh at friends during march break 1998 Ocarina of Time - beat probably 3 times 2000 Majora's Mask - played probably about an hour 2001 Oracle of Seasons and Ages - played both in total probably 3 hours 2002 The Wind Waker - played at friends for short amount of time 2004 Four Swords Adventures - rented it for a weekend with friends 2004 The Minish Cap - never played 2006 Twilight Princess - played through first dungeon 2007 Phantom Hourglass - played recently this summer through 4 dungeons then got stuck 2009 Spirit Tracks - never played 2011 Skyward Sword - never played
Anyways Im ranting a bit, but basically as I got older I was more interested in multiplayer games, smash bros, Mario kart, SC:BW, SC2, LoL CS, etc. And never had time for single player games I loved and enjoyed being a kid without siblings. So now basically I want to go back and try to enjoy the single player experiences I missed and bring back some nostalgic joy in my 2012. Thanks for reading and I hope you follow my resolution this year.
Current progress/time:
Coming up next time: Will be updating my first week of play through the first part of my resolution Legend Of Zelda (NES)

In order of release date???
You just skipped LoZ, ZII: AoL, aLttP, and LA!
Granted skipping AoL is not necessarily a bad thing (that game is stupidly hard) but that's 3 high-quality games right there.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Asyg4.png)
I recommend skipping Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
|
Spirit Tracks wasn't bad.. Except for everything that had to do with the tracks -.-
And Adventures of Link wasn't that hard once you got used to it's speed.... It's cruel when you just pick it up but once used to it it's really nothing outstanding (unlike other hard games). It's more that it controls kinda strange/awkward :p
|
I didnt skip any cause I didn't start yet I was just introducing my resolution and will be starting LoZ (NES) tonight. And yes Im very afraid of AoL ive played it before slightly and it seemed hard.
|
I still mantain that ocarina of time when it came out was the best game ever made.

Ugh.Evertyime i see a Zelda-related post,i feel like playing :>

Maybe you should join me in my quest to beat all the zelda games this year
|
Despite playing pretty much every Zelda until Windwaker, I hadn't played one in a long time. However, I recently got Skyward Sword and I'm really enjoying it.
So thumbs up for your idea, it's a good one .

Why not?Time to get some emulatorz :D.

Twilight Princess is an amazing Zelda game, the Midna character is really interresting and the whole storyline is just awesome. Definitely enjoyed it as much as OoT, ifnot more.
|
Am I strange for having Wind Waker as my favorite? I love that game.
|
Does this include the terrible CD-I games?
Oh yea, and dont forget master quest. Beating the first Zelda without a walkthrough is just stupidly annoying I warn you. Lots of trial and error. The oracle games are awesome. Roc's feather is like the best thing for topdown Zelda. And oracle of ages is basically link to the past but you have the feather. Therefore it is awesome.
Good luck!

Wind Waker and minish cap are the best games, oot is way overrated

You sir are speaking blashmey i demand extremly specific reasons why you think this.

Guys let's not do the whining fanboy thing please. We can all agree that The Faces of Evil is totally awful and disgusting. See! We're all on the same side!
|
I grew up on LttP and that's still my favorite game of all time. I practically know that entire game by heart now
Sadly the only other Zelda game that came close to that magic for me was The Wind Waker. Loved that game to death, but no other Zelda games grabbed hold of me and I played nearly all of them
|
I got some games for you to add to your list bro:

Sometime I feel I'm the only one that liked Majora.

Zelda fans tend to rank Majora highly among Zelda games but the general video gaming population likes OoT better.
|
My personal ranking would be:
1. A Link to the Past – SNES 2. Link’s Awakening – Game Boy 3. The Legend of Zelda – NES 4. Ocarina of Time – Nintendo 64 5. Majora’s Mask – Nintendo 64 6. Twilight Princess – GC (i felt it was way too easy)
Sadly i didn't play Oracle of A/S, Windwaker and all the other GamboyColor or GameboyAdvanced titles. I own Windwaker but somehow just didn't start playing it yet.
Would someone highly recommend one of the GBC / GBA titles?
|
Majora's sucked balls. The orginal, OOT and Link to the Past are the best, though I never really played LttP besides at my friend's as a little kid because I was a loser who had genesis!
I think this is a pretty sweet quest you've set up for yourself heh
|
I have the feeling that every single Zelda game right after Wind Waker just feels..."bleh" I just don't feel that charm the older games have, I played Twilight Princess for the GC and I simply couldn't stand the game, just felt plain weird.
Good luck with your journey man, it would be cool if you could record some small footage of each game and tell what you like about it and such, but hell, that might be a lot of work. Finishing every Zelda game + keeping us updated in blogs is already quite time consuming
|
You know what? I think I'll join in. Although I don't own a Wii so Skyward Sword is going to be difficult to play, but that's the last game on the list anyway so maybe I'll have figured out how to make that emulator work by then
the original Zelda is going to be such a trip down memory lane
|
Also, you know you have to do the second quest for all of them no walkthrough as well too, right?? I still never beat the original second quest... I should get on that.
|
I think MM was the one Nintendo game I've ever gotten physically upset with, to the point that I was about to snap my controller in half.

I don't think WiiMotionPlus has been emulated, and I question whether it is possible to do so--you're probably going to have to drop some serious $$$ if you want to play SS (It is really a great game though)

Before playing/finishing Skyward Sword couple weeks ago I hadn't touched a single player game in years, and I was so damned hesitant to start the game even though I had bought the collector's edition and all
So fucking glad that I managed to convince myself to play through the game, I had almost forgotten the magic of well-crafted single player games.

After you are done play the Golden Sun series for a mix between Zelda and Final Fantasy. Imagine them together :D. Plus, they changed some stuff between Golden Sun and Golden Sun Dark Dawn. Golden Sun was for Game Boy Advance I believe and GS: Dark Dawn was made for the DS.(no weird 3D required <3) Oh and, the game has lots of spells that you have to use to progress from mission to mission. The farther into the story line you go the more imaginative it gets and the more spells you have to use. Sometimes you end up just trying all the spells at once to try and get past a single area only to realize that you just needed to push it with your hands or that you were going the totally wrong way xD.

Don't get me wrong, I fucking love Majora's the concept is so fresh and new and the dungeon difficult swamps anything that OoT did but never have I banged my head against a wall for any game until Majora's mask.
It's such a brilliant yet under appreciated game, The reason it's under appreciated is because a lot of people struggled to deal with the fact that theres 3 time phases and the fact you need X mask to do Y and to get to Z you need Y mask and then you'll get to the place you should have gone and realise that you need 5 fucking magic beans or even worse you need a powder keg and it's already dawn of the 3rd day so you have to song of time and then you realise you had 500 rupees that you now lost and holy fuck is that shit annoying
But after a while you get it down and you truely understand and appreciate the layout and how it works
Twilight Princess also kicked some pretty cool ass especially Midna, she was a rather interesting take on fairies.
I'm waiting on completeing Majora's mask before doing Skyward Sword
|
I thought MM was okay, considering it was the only one I actually beat (including getting the super OP bosses only mask) lol I stopped at Shadow Temple for OoT cause I got stuck. Damn, if I wasn't stuck at school I'd be down to do this too (MIGHT do SS if I find time since my apartment mate bought it.) Good luck to you. Remember, you have an entire year. Soak in all the goodness that is the Zelda series.
|
I would bet on you not managing to beat "Zelda 2: The adventure of Link" before you get too frustrated to continue without using guides (unless you use savestates of course, but I guess that you wouldn't do that). It is by far the hardest zelda game, aside from zelda 1's second quest no other game can even compare.
|
I've never played any of the Zelda games besides Majora's Mask and OOT (which I loved both). So I think I am qualified to say that those are the best games in the series.
Joking aside, idk why there are many MM haters in here. That was my favorite of the two. And then since I got it on VC, I've since learned to bombchu hover which increases the replayability a ton. There's also the special boss mask glitch to use it in Termina fields and elsewhere. If only OOT had easier bombchu access and hovering ability (the explosions are delayed which makes it hard), I would definitely spend a lot of time on that.

Seriously, that game is like Ninja Gaiden hard. I still remember that a relatively early point in the game you have the option of leaving the main area of the game through this super long tunnel that's basically impossible unless you first acquire the healing spell Life. I thought you had to go through that freaking impossible tunnel to GET that stupid spell holy crap. My face when all that tunnel did was reveal a whole new, much bigger area, and NOT the life spell ...

Zelda 2 is not that hard if you learn to jump and then attack, though there are a few silly false walls and floors you have to find at points, as well as New Kasuto, but that's not as dumb as "bomb every wall" in Zelda 1.

Majora is my favorite. Such a sad story. .

Twilight P. Had some sweet game play, but I feel it lacked story-wise and like you said to EZ. Or may be its because I beat Oot and Majora when I was like 8. Windwaker is trash. Driving out in the ocean pisses me off b/c I always get lost and then get vertigo. I don't even have vertigo -___-. Haven't beaten the game cuz I got lost somewhere an it take 50 years to get back. They should have added a feature where you can barrel roll the boat.

Fight the knights properly instead by blocking their attacks and attacking back, it is a bit harder to learn but far from impossible, I finished the game as a kid without knowing that you could do the glitch to bypass the shield of the knights.
