Hello everyone, my ID is Memento and this is my first blog. I made a New Years resolution this year to beat every Legend of Zelda game without using walkthroughs. (Excluding spin-off games, CGI games, and Four Swords Adventure). I thought about which order to play the games in and decided instead of going with a random selection or following the recently released official timeline, I will play in order of release dates. I plan on updating this blog weekly with my progress, my struggles, and hilarious stories along the journey.
Legend... wait for it.... Of Zelda. HELLL YEAH
Why did I decide to do this you might ask? Well growing up Legend of Zelda was my favorite series. One of the first games I legit beat by myself on my SNES was Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. Onward from there I save up all my allowance for a year to buy a N64 and waited for Orcarina of time to come out. I looking at every monthly Nintendo Power in excitement to see new screen shots and updates. This was before my family owned a computer or the internet and news was relayed soley from these magazines. I specifically remember the first big amount of screen shots coming out (around 200 I think) and showing everyone how real it looked and it was the best graphics there ever was.
Real Life: This is what it looks like. Sadly when the game came out, I couldn’t afford it since I spent all my savings on an N64. So I had rented it but basically only got past the first kid dungeon in three days and was craving more. Patiently waiting for Christmas where I put OoT on my letter to Santa. After opening all my presents at home with no OoT in site, my heart dropped.
Afterwards me and my mom went to my grandparents where I had one present to open. However, it was not the shape of a small rectangular box like an N64 game would be in. Instead it came in a larger slim rectangular box. I expected to be disappointed. Opening the box I see a box of corn Pops, and while I loved corn pops for breakfast I didn’t understand the gift. My grandparents persuading me to open the box further. To my delight and surprise there it was OoT and I held it over my head imagining the classic item music (DA NANA NAAAAAA).
WAT? EDIT:
Previous Experience with the games: 1986 The Legend of Zelda - Have beat probably 3 dungeons in the past 1987 The Adventure of Link - beat first dungeon and it was too hard 1991 A Link to the Past - beat about 5 times 1993 Link's Awakening - played probably 25% throuugh at friends during march break 1998 Ocarina of Time - beat probably 3 times 2000 Majora's Mask - played probably about an hour 2001 Oracle of Seasons and Ages - played both in total probably 3 hours 2002 The Wind Waker - played at friends for short amount of time 2004 Four Swords Adventures - rented it for a weekend with friends 2004 The Minish Cap - never played 2006 Twilight Princess - played through first dungeon 2007 Phantom Hourglass - played recently this summer through 4 dungeons then got stuck 2009 Spirit Tracks - never played 2011 Skyward Sword - never played
Anyways Im ranting a bit, but basically as I got older I was more interested in multiplayer games, smash bros, Mario kart, SC:BW, SC2, LoL CS, etc. And never had time for single player games I loved and enjoyed being a kid without siblings. So now basically I want to go back and try to enjoy the single player experiences I missed and bring back some nostalgic joy in my 2012. Thanks for reading and I hope you follow my resolution this year.
Current progress/time:
Coming up next time: Will be updating my first week of play through the first part of my resolution Legend Of Zelda (NES)

In order of release date???
You just skipped LoZ, ZII: AoL, aLttP, and LA!
Granted skipping AoL is not necessarily a bad thing (that game is stupidly hard) but that's 3 high-quality games right there.
I recommend skipping Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
|
Spirit Tracks wasn't bad.. Except for everything that had to do with the tracks -.-
And Adventures of Link wasn't that hard once you got used to it's speed.... It's cruel when you just pick it up but once used to it it's really nothing outstanding (unlike other hard games). It's more that it controls kinda strange/awkward :p
|
I didnt skip any cause I didn't start yet I was just introducing my resolution and will be starting LoZ (NES) tonight. And yes Im very afraid of AoL ive played it before slightly and it seemed hard.

I still mantain that ocarina of time when it came out was the best game ever made.

Maybe you should join me in my quest to beat all the zelda games this year

Despite playing pretty much every Zelda until Windwaker, I hadn't played one in a long time. However, I recently got Skyward Sword and I'm really enjoying it.
So thumbs up for your idea, it's a good one .

Twilight Princess is an amazing Zelda game, the Midna character is really interresting and the whole storyline is just awesome. Definitely enjoyed it as much as OoT, ifnot more.
|
Am I strange for having Wind Waker as my favorite? I love that game.
|
Does this include the terrible CD-I games?
Oh yea, and dont forget master quest. Beating the first Zelda without a walkthrough is just stupidly annoying I warn you. Lots of trial and error. The oracle games are awesome. Roc's feather is like the best thing for topdown Zelda. And oracle of ages is basically link to the past but you have the feather. Therefore it is awesome.
Good luck!

You sir are speaking blashmey i demand extremly specific reasons why you think this.

Guys let's not do the whining fanboy thing please. We can all agree that The Faces of Evil is totally awful and disgusting. See! We're all on the same side!
|
I grew up on LttP and that's still my favorite game of all time. I practically know that entire game by heart now
Sadly the only other Zelda game that came close to that magic for me was The Wind Waker. Loved that game to death, but no other Zelda games grabbed hold of me and I played nearly all of them
|
I got some games for you to add to your list bro:
