In the mountains, there is a man who can teach you the ways of the mod. However, he will not teach you without an offering, and will not appear to you before that, either. To summon the master, you must make an offering of the tears of a nerd and the blood of a virgin, which can often be obtained from the same source.
Leave the offering in a bowl on the shrine you'll find at the top of the mountain path. The master will appear to you. He will ask you what you want, to which you must respond, "I desire to be a mod.". If you say anything else, or the master judges you to not have enough conviction in your voice, he will quickly strike you, and you will find yourself banned for eternity. However, if he judges you worthy, he will take you on to train with him, at his dwelling hidden in the mountain. The details of this training are a secret, so I cannot tell you exactly what you will go through.
After the master has finished preparing you, he will send you on your way, but will first give you a disk-shaped medallion with the symbol of a horse inlaid on it. This is where your true trials begin.
You must now go in search of a present mod. They may be hard to find, or they may be waiting for you, it is always different. Be careful of which one you choose, as the oldest ones, and the ones whose hammers have tasted the most blood, are strongest. You will be able to tell who these are, by the size of their hammers. When you find one, show them the horse medallion, and challenge them for their hammer. They will be forced to accept your challenge, and you must now fight them in mortal combat. If you win, you will take their hammer, and become a mod yourself. If you lose, you will die.
If you manage to defeat your adversary, you will be faced with a choice of how you wish to continue. You may become a force for good, and carry on the task of banning those who would threaten TL, or you may become a force of evil, and continue to search out and challenge banlings to battle, absorbing the souls trapped in their banhammer if you deafeat them.
The choice is yours, and is a hard one to make. The lust for power is corrupting, and many are not strong enough to withstand it, but those who do, become paragons of justice and righteousness.
Now you know what you must do, so go, and begin your journey. Godspeed.
