I haven't given up, I'm just postponing it for the time being while I get back onto a normal schedule. During the school year, I had this unhealthy habit of staying up until 3-4 every night, waking up at 1-2 PM that afternoon, and completely missing my first class of the day, and my GPA took a bit of a hit.
My parents were none too pleased either, as they are paying for not only my tuition, but they're also letting me live at home, and honestly I was being a lazy piece of shit, so their frustrations were more or less justified. So over Winter break I resolved to get onto a normal sleep schedule; going to be no later than midnight, and getting up no later than 8 AM. I've actually been incredibly successful, so hopefully I can keep it up during the school year =D
In addition to my resolution to sleep better, I've also resolved to get at least 2-3 SC II games in per day, and my efforts have payed off in the form of my promotion from Silver to Gold League! More important, my play is improving in huge ways, and I'm playing a lot faster, and I'm making better game decisions than I've ever done before. I've still got a lot of issues (unit control being the biggest) but I'm lightyears ahead of where I was just 2 months ago.
Sometimes looking back is almost painful. There was a 54 minute game on Scrap Station, ZvT. My opponent was on the island from 36 minutes to the end of the game, and that was it. I had killed all other bases and expansions. It took me 18 minutes to kill a 1 base Terran that only had Starports and that was trapped on an island expo. Even worse, I was only on 3 bases @_@
Sometimes looking back is just hilariously funny. There was a 9 minute game on Scrap Station again, and wouldn't you know it? ZvT again. The Terran went for Reapers, and when his first push came, I was able to handily hold him off with my 8 Mutalisks. He built a good 13 missile turrets and I ended up killing him with 12 Mutalisks and 20 or so Zerglings.
Sometimes looking back just makes me feel stupidly proud of myself. The first 4-gate I ever held successfully, a feat I accomplished by making nothing but speedlings (no spines, no roaches). Granted, my opponents response to "All I see are lings" was "I just need more stalkers", but I had never before held that incredibly common 6 minute push.
The first ZvT bio all-in I ever held was pretty memorable as well. It hit just as 3 Pathogen Gland Infestors popped, and I microed perfectly to fungal my opponent's entire army, which was set upon by Banelings. I've yet to play a game that feels as solid as that game felt, but damn. It was awesome =D
At the moment, I think I actually need to slow down a bit in my play. Most games I average about 130-160 APM, with an EAPM of around 100-140, but I constantly find myself screwing up in major ways with my unit control. Accidentally rallying a bunch of lings into a tank line, or manually detonating a group of Banelings on accident (or more humorously, selecting my Banelings and right clicking away from my base, only to realize later that I accidentally right clicked some rocks X_X)
My injects are excellent, I'm doing really well in the "not getting supply blocked" department, and my macro is still very good for my league. Now my focus is getting turned to unit control and unit awareness. Knowing where my units are headed, and actually wanting them to be heading that way are more or less my current goals.
I feel like I'll probably have more time to dedicate to my blog once I start school up again, as I'll have a lot of downtime between classes where I don't have anything better to do (Can't justify driving all the way home between classes every day, and my laptop can't handle starcraft =[ ). If that actually turns out to be true, I'd like to make as good a blog as possible, so any suggestions on how to improve my blog would be appreciated =D (And I still plan on getting some Path to Victory stuff written up eventually, maybe with some replays and stuff, I just lack the time at the moment =[ )
