I doubt I'll ever touch this series again on PC, unless they fixed the UI significantly. It suffered from what I will call "console syndrome" - nested tabs and no hotkeys makes even the simple task of using potions a huge chore. Not to mention the soul gem mechanic for keeping your weapons enchanted, coupled with the fact that spell casting means switching to the spell you need (from the horrible UI) and then casting the spell with the single spell cast button made the game SO AGGRIVATING to play on a PC. A couple hours of optimization such that more than 8 keys out of the 100+ on a keyboard were used to make shortcuts would have probably kept me playing. But as it stands, I can't help but think how console controllers forced the UI for Oblivion to be completely unintuitive, bulky, and worst of all SLOW. Makes me really resent consoles. Another game I've played that suffers from console syndrome is Borderlands. Fun game, but a horrible console-optimized UI makes the game unplayable in my opinion. Anybody know if they fixed this in Skyrim? It's actually way worse in Skyrim. But of course there's a million things wrong with all the TES games, including horrible bugs, that Bethesda never bothers to fix. That is where the best modding community ever comes in: bug fixes, graphical improvements, UI improvements, etc. Playing vanilla Oblivion is frankly idiotic... As for the poll, Morrowind competes with PST and BG2 for greatest WRPG ever. Combat is a bit "eh", but the rest is absolutely fantastic and unforgettable.

Oblivion is probably the weakest title of the three but it's not horrible enough to be a "NEVER PLAY THIS GAME" title.

Morrowind is a great game too. But I don't think it survives the passage of time very well.

I agree the games are optimized for consoles and I can't imagine playing them on PCs.

As someone who wasn't the guy I had previously told was cutting my quesadilla I yell fairly loudly "HEY I ONLY WANT IT CUT ONCE DOWN THE MIDDLE". I say this right as she is beggining the first cut. She looks up from what shes doing, I finish my statement just as she finishes the first cut. She looks me dead in the face and starts cutting it the second time. The first guy didn't stop her at all. The second person just ignored me. I did not pay for a Quesadilla. poor sheth ![]() I'm glad you didn't pay for the quesadilla!

Don't believe people who say Morrowind is so so good and Oblivion is so bad. They are both very similar when compared to Daggerfall or Skyrim. It's just most people started with Morrowind and then Oblivion was a disappointment. Well they don't know people were disappointed with Morrowind in the same way. Skyrim is an even more consolified and simplified version of the game. But I do think a lot of lessons were learned. It can kind of live up to the ambition that Daggerfall set out with. Since this is a SC BW site I assume you can handle dated hardcore games that are purely gameplay based. Daggerfall can be given a try. Also, don't even think about Battlespire. It's very bad.

Oblivion just lacked a good oomph in it; I mean the game itself was cool but it was just ridiculously easy and not as captivating as Morrowind. I've yet to play Skyrim and I'm very anxious to go buy it once I get my next pay check =D. For the first two Elder Scrolls games, I wouldn't recommend them to someone new, they're really hard to get into compared to what's out their nowadays. As for the OP, play Morrowind first, you'll thank yourself later.

I don't know enough to say which one is best since I have only seen Oblivion played and already logged 40+ hours into Skyrim but, I understand your simile and the weight at which you attribute morrowind. With that said I guess I'm gonna have to go and play it now. (after I finish off skyrim ofc :D:D )

Jyggalag! He is the Prince of Order. Or biscuits...no, no, Order! And not in a good way. Bleak. Colorless. Dead. Boring, boring, BORING! And not a fan of my work, I can tell you. Hates it, hates me. You've seen his knights. Not the warm and cuddly sort. I once dug a pit and filled it with clouds....or was it clowns.... it doesn't matter, it didn't slow him down. But it really began to smell! Must have been clowns. Clouds don't smell, they taste of butter. And tears. Woops! I guess the cat's out of the bag on that one! Who puts cats in bags anyhow? Cats HATE bags.

If you're just starting, and wanna work up on the lore, then Morrowind is an amazing game. I was unfortunate enough never to play TES 1 or 2, but was instantly addicted to Morrowind when I first played it. There's just something about that game that keeps me wanting more and more. True, it's extremely difficult in some stages, and the failed attacks / spell casts can really piss you off. But in the end it grips you and doesn't let go. The moment I got my hands on Oblivion, I knew that my life had changed. I honestly spent way too much time playing that game, but I always felt that I couldn't get enough. And that's what my fear is for Skyrim. It scares me that I so badly want to do just everything in the game, but I suppose I just won't be able to. Luckily many of my friends are playing it (I just got my GF addicted to the game today) so we can talk about quests and how to do certain things, etc. But seriously, just play Morrowind for the feel. You can maybe give Oblivion a skip if you want to, but don't ignore Skyrim... It will come after you Edit: don't know if this has been mentioned, but Daggerfall is freeware now, so you can just download it legally ![]()
