Which Elder Scrolls game is the best, and why? Disregarding graphcis, which game in the series should I start with, and why?

I have only played Morrowind and Oblivion: Morrowind I kinda liked but could never really get into (maybe I was too young? idk) and Oblivion I really disliked for several reasons. I'm interested in playing Skyrim but I'm gonna wait until Steam has a sale or something, even if it takes months.

So I guess Morrowind.

Oblivion was my favorite because i loved the oblivion gates mechanic!

Who voted Oblivion? :O Compared to the other games, it sucked hard.... It's standing between Morrowind and Skyrim for sure. For me it is Skyrim

Skyrim for me. I only played Oblivion and didn't like it - but Skyrim is amazing. I completely wasted my weekend playing countless hours of it, and I have so much school work to do it's ridiculous...

Anyone who votes anything that isn't Morrowind isn't an Elder Scrolls fan. It's like saying Return of the Jedi is better than a New Hope.

Skyrim feels really crappy to me tbh...

Oblivion and Morrowind are both excellent and I would have to give it to Morrowind over Oblivion but just barely. Don't get me started on Skyrim. What a disappointment

I voted morrowind. Ive probably spent more time playing morrowind than any other single player game, theres just so much to do, and mods make the experience endless. Though it could easily by skyrim depending on the mods that get released for it.

Yeah, it's definitely morrowind, though Skyrim is a closer second than I think some people are giving it credit for. Anyone voting oblivion must have either A: not played the other two mentioned or B: is clearly only interested in slapping cat ears and H cup tits on characters.

Or it's like having an opinion. Both Skyrim and Morrowind were amazing games, but I was too young to be sucked into Morrowind completely. I mean I loved the fact that you had to think, and that everything wasnt dumbed down like in Oblivion, but I like Skyrim better

I liked Oblivion and Skyrim. I don't know what's the hate with Oblivion, but I thought it was pretty nice as far as an RPG goes.

It was decent without mods, and great with mods. But Morrowind was amazing without mods, and insanely fucking epic with mods. So far, Skyrim has been amazingly awesome without mods.

Why disregard graphics? They're a huge part of TES's immersion.

I've only played Oblivion and Morrowind. Oblivion with custom mods is far superior to Morrowind in terms of stuff you can do, and how fun it is to do said things.

I was 'young' enough to get obsessed with Morrowind, TBH i didn't even finish oblivion. it didn't captivate me like Morrowind. although the forests where amazing, but that's graphical. I think there was a time and place for morrowind, even though they aren't horrible graphics, a lot of the things which made it amazing (free world, etc) are more or less 'common' now days.
I haven't played Skyrim either.

morrowind for now, but how do you excpect me to compare 1230812387 hours of morrowind to 20 hours of skyrim

skyrim is soooo good though, imo it is a modern morrowind.

So today I was at Moes. I ordered a quesadilla. I told the guy specifically please "only cut it once down the center". He responded with both a nod and a yes sir. I sat back and waited and watched. Someone else took the quesadilla down off of the grill. She set it RIGHT in front of the guy I had warned about the cutting style. He stopped what he was doing and watched as she cut it once down the center. I as an observer was also watching. As someone who wasn't the guy I had previously told was cutting my quesadilla I yell fairly loudly "HEY I ONLY WANT IT CUT ONCE DOWN THE MIDDLE". I say this right as she is beggining the first cut. She looks up from what shes doing, I finish my statement just as she finishes the first cut. She looks me dead in the face and starts cutting it the second time.

The first guy didn't stop her at all. The second person just ignored me. I did not pay for a Quesadilla.

Morrowind is very tough. If you play Oblivion/Skyrim before Morrowind you likely will never pick up Morrowind as the two later games will spoil you with easy fast travel, way points, and easier gameplay. You could still potentially get into it but it'd be harder. Not to mention if you ask anyone who grew up and played all of the games I think they'll almost unanimously agree that Morrowind is the best of the series. Daggerfall is good too btw, and you can play it for free. It's even more dated than Morrowind though.

I'd recommend playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and then Skyrim. If you want to play the first two you can but I didn't really like Arena and imo Daggerfall is pretty hard to get into if you're new to the series.

The thing about Morrowind is that it's just so incredibly immersive. The world of Morrowind is really creative and feels more like another world entirely rather than a fantasy Medieval Earth. Oblivion got some shit for looking like "Medieval Europe" as far as the landscape and architecture goes and honestly Skyrim kind of suffers from that same problem. In Morrowind? The landscape is pretty different. The architecture for some of the cities is so creative and different from anything in our world. The countryside has various mushroom trees, the Blight storms, Red Mountain, Ashlands, and swamps with pretty unique designs to them.

Finally, there's just a lot of stuff to do in Morrowind. I've heard that both Oblivion and Skyrim are bigger maps (in terms of area) and that there are more quests. While factually that's probably true at least with Oblivion the game actually felt smaller. Morrowind just feels so massive because there are more Factions and the lack of fast travel means you have to go everywhere.

The only thing to recommend is if you play Morrowind you might want to have a notebook and a pencil. You need to find your way around the map and remember a lot of stuff for quests. It's helpful to have something to jot down notes because you don't have way points to help you find things.

I would recommend starting with Morrowind or else starting with Arena. Although Arena/Daggerfall are a lot harder to get into. If you start with Skyrim/Oblivion you'll likely get lazy and never play the first three as they're a lot harder and they don't hold your hand through the game.
