yeah, but in which TES game did that happen?!

It didn't happen in a TES game.

oblivion was so much better than morrowind, the graphics in that game remind me of like ffix, they're so bad.. how can you guys play something like that? i'm going back to MW3, enjoy your bad game.

Skyrim is like Morrowind 2.0
I've "only" played it for about 18 hours but it's already proven to be better than Oblivion. Even if morrowind still has more depth (at this point I can't say one way or the other) it also comes with the clunky engine. Skyrim is super smooth and not frustrating at all.

I have to say I'm enjoying Skyrim more than I did Morrowind. The atmosphere and dungeons are, for lack of a better word, AMAZING. The main story and most quest chains are very engaging as well.

I've only played Oblivion and Morrowind. Oblivion with custom mods is far superior to Morrowind in terms of stuff you can do, and how fun it is to do said things.
Graphics don't matter much for me personally, that's why I want you to disregard graphics.

Never played oblivion. I'm not very far into skyrim but I'm much more impressed with it than morrowind. The awful interface is gone, the obscure and poorly balanced stat system, the slow movement, the tight cylinder of fog, the lack of direction, the barely playable combat, the poorly constructed dialogue trees... all fixed.

Start with Morrowind. Then play Oblivion, then Skyrim! The first two should cost you what, $25 together? Have fun!

Morrowind is very tough. If you play Oblivion/Skyrim before Morrowind you likely will never pick up Morrowind as the two later games will spoil you with easy fast travel, way points, and easier gameplay. You could still potentially get into it but it'd be harder. Not to mention if you ask anyone who grew up and played all of the games I think they'll almost unanimously agree that Morrowind is the best of the series. Daggerfall is good too btw, and you can play it for free. It's even more dated than Morrowind though. I'd recommend playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and then Skyrim. If you want to play the first two you can but I didn't really like Arena and imo Daggerfall is pretty hard to get into if you're new to the series. The thing about Morrowind is that it's just so incredibly immersive. The world of Morrowind is really creative and feels more like another world entirely rather than a fantasy Medieval Earth. Oblivion got some shit for looking like "Medieval Europe" as far as the landscape and architecture goes and honestly Skyrim kind of suffers from that same problem. In Morrowind? The landscape is pretty different. The architecture for some of the cities is so creative and different from anything in our world. The countryside has various mushroom trees, the Blight storms, Red Mountain, Ashlands, and swamps with pretty unique designs to them. Finally, there's just a lot of stuff to do in Morrowind. I've heard that both Oblivion and Skyrim are bigger maps (in terms of area) and that there are more quests. While factually that's probably true at least with Oblivion the game actually felt smaller. Morrowind just feels so massive because there are more Factions and the lack of fast travel means you have to go everywhere. The only thing to recommend is if you play Morrowind you might want to have a notebook and a pencil. You need to find your way around the map and remember a lot of stuff for quests. It's helpful to have something to jot down notes because you don't have way points to help you find things. I would recommend starting with Morrowind or else starting with Arena. Although Arena/Daggerfall are a lot harder to get into. If you start with Skyrim/Oblivion you'll likely get lazy and never play the first three as they're a lot harder and they don't hold your hand through the game.
I don't care about a game being "dated" or hard. I got in to Brood War seriously in 2009, and played Megaman (1 and 2) and Ninja Gaiden for the first time in 2011. If you think that a game is seriously better, but harder to appreciate, I'll take that game.
Also, Deus Ex in 2010, and System Shock 2 in 2011. Enjoyed them a lot. :D

Morrowind just can't compete with Skyrim, it's just not fun to go back to that game and play with THAT type of combat. Thwack, thwack, thwack...just boring combat. The feeling of exploration and immersion is good but...meh...baldur's gate 2 is older AND better. Skyrim all the way

It was decent without mods, and great with mods. But Morrowind was amazing without mods, and insanely fucking epic with mods. So far, Skyrim has been amazingly awesome without mods.
Can you advice a mod for Morrowind please?

I've been watching JP stream it for like 10 hours (Skyrim)... drool worthy. Can't wait to play it.

Troll alert! :p
Morrowind by far, for all the reasons previously listed. I've only layed like 5-6 hours of skyrim, but I'm enjoying it alot. Oblivion wasn't bad, but next to Morrowind it was a big disappointment.

Disregarding graphics? Morrowind, hands down.
Skyrim's better than Oblivion (but perhaps not SI), but the world isn't half as enchanting as the one in Morrowind. There are no mushroom houses, no Silt Striders, instead of kwama you have chickens. It's not as... fantastic. Morrowind is very alien and somewhat disgusting, in a wonderful sort of way. Oblivion, Skyrim much less so. But you might like the familiarity.
Another consideration is that the newer the game, the more the action in "action-RPG" is emphasized over the RPG side. Skyrim doesn't even have character stats, classes, or birthsigns for example. But Morrowind's combat involves stabbing at things repeatedly and missing a lot.
The switch to fully voice acted from Morrowind to Oblivion also results in NPCs saying a lot less, but there's nothing for you to read. If you don't like reading loads of crap, you'll prefer the newer games. Your personal preference, do you prefer the immersion of everyone verbally talking to you, or the deeper experience you get when everyone has more to say?

Btw, if you don't get a combat mod at the start of morrowind, expect to miss 90% of the time until you get higher skill

Skyrim is going to be amazing once the creation kit gets released. Until then. Its kind of bad.

I've only played about 20 hours of Oblivion on PC and after a while I just couldn't stand the horrible UI. Not worth it for PC. I doubt I'll ever touch this series again on PC, unless they fixed the UI significantly. It suffered from what I will call "console syndrome" - nested tabs and no hotkeys makes even the simple task of using potions a huge chore. Not to mention the soul gem mechanic for keeping your weapons enchanted, coupled with the fact that spell casting means switching to the spell you need (from the horrible UI) and then casting the spell with the single spell cast button made the game SO AGGRIVATING to play on a PC. A couple hours of optimization such that more than 8 keys out of the 100+ on a keyboard were used to make shortcuts would have probably kept me playing. But as it stands, I can't help but think how console controllers forced the UI for Oblivion to be completely unintuitive, bulky, and worst of all SLOW. Makes me really resent consoles.
Another game I've played that suffers from console syndrome is Borderlands. Fun game, but a horrible console-optimized UI makes the game unplayable in my opinion.
Anybody know if they fixed this in Skyrim?
