Really good info especially the jungle and pulling info. New players picking support heroes can really benefit from reading that.

Thanks for the guide. I haven't played DotA for a while, and this helped refresh me on some of the things I forgot & even missed.

Nice guide. The pull videos are actually quite helpful, as I had never tried the concept of double pulling... maybe you should go over common ward spots too, which is good info for newbies.

great help for someone who's only just dabbled in some DoTA-esque games such as HoN and sucked at them.

much appreciated!

I have never played DotA or any like game before, save watching various SC2 pros goof around in between laddering. This guide was very helpful in getting me to understand some of the basic strategy in DotA2, as well as the play value. The game seems to have more depth than it appears at first. Your videos were also pretty helpful, I did not understand pulling at all until you showed it. Overall, great blog, and great intro to DotA2! I would probably play it if I get the chance

Nifty guide, could you add spawn/respawn times for jungle mobs to it?

I think the most understated concept of DotA and MOBA games in general is map control. Gaining map control is first achieved through proper warding, in order to have vision over hot spots in the map at all times. The ability to have constant vision in multiple parts of the map is the most important part of successful teamwork and communication, which leads into better synergy in teamfights and the removal of unnecessary ganks.

Tower control directly leads into map control, as towers innately help with managing creep flow in lanes. Removal of these towers means losing a lane, and that means quite a bit in a game like DotA. It also means that roaming is much more effective, because having a tower advantage in a lane allows players to forgo pushing a lane in favor of a possible gank on the enemy team. There are numerous other advantages to playing safe and focusing on towers to win lanes, but I'd rather leave the details to more experienced players than me.

Kudos on the guide, and I hope that there are many more! I can't tell you how much I appreciate players like you educating those new to the genre. It can only be a good thing!

Hey Bumble, I also had a question. I saw that you had said your favorite support was OmniKnight. My build with him differed what I was facing, but I found that, even at max level, I would leave only two points in Repel. Because my heal couldn't go through my own shield, I felt that having it's duration last 10 seconds instead of 20 could be a lot more beneficial than the 20 seconds of Repel without healing. Thoughts?

Why would you do that? The fact that you can give anyone a 20 second BKB is your best asset lategame, considering that your heal is not very useful lategame either.
