As you might have heard, Thailand is in a crisis. We are having one of the greatest disaster in our country history. As you might not know, Thailand use to be free of natural disaster. We don't have earthquake or volcano here until recently we got hit by a tsunami. However, this year, according to our local news, we got hit by around 20 Typhoons (most of them hit other country and we got the left of it) which result in a lot of continuous heavy rain. This creating a great flood in the northern part of the country which is said to have water mass of 8000-10000 million cubic metre left that we need to release them to the sea. Now the problem is that in order for those water to go to the sea, it has to go through Bangkok, our capital city. Unfortunately, Bangkok has the population of around 7-8 million (Thailand population is around 66 million). It is a very big city and it is the heart of Thailand. all the industrial, business, government center are situated here in Bangkok. And it is about to be wipe-out. here are some info http://www.oknation.net/blog/mun/2011/11/01/entry-1
Now as for me, I am about to evacuate to the eastern part of the country as there is said to be "dry land" there somewhere. As I am packed my stuff in to my SUV, my brother carried the only thing he love in this world with him - His computer. Along with those razor mouse-keyboard, hi-end desktop, he carried one hard copy game with him. I ask him why he take that game with him because this game actually doesn't need a cd (DVD) to play and he said "this game is a legend and I can't let draw in the flood like other game"
Edit: Sorry, I can't seem to get the picture up.

I was worried, I just made the mistake of reading the "New Look of TL Poll" thread wrong, and now I thought this one was about food, realized it wasn't. But you guys make me feel better.
To the OP, I hope all goes well.

Hope everybody over there stays as safe as possible. I have some relatives in Thailand, and from what I've heard, the situation is just horrible, and everything's at a complete standstill.
I haven't seen the pictures in this thread because they're not working for whatever reason, but I have seen some pictures of the flooding. It's just devastating.

My best friend is an Ajahn at Chula. He took his family and left BKK two days ago. I wish you and your family well.

I'm surprised this isn't making as much global news as it is. Seems like a possibly devastating ongoing natural disaster.
stay safe buddy.

This pair of photographs from NASA shows images from space of the Bangkok metropolitan area (lower center) taken by the Terra satellite on November 12, 2008 (left) and the same area on October 19, 2011, illustrating the flood surge north of the city. (NASA/AFP/Getty Images) + Show Spoiler [another picture] +Vehicles at a Honda car factory are submerged in floodwaters in the Rojana industrial district in Ayutthaya province, central Thailand on October 16, 2011. (Sakchai Lalit/AP) =O that is ridiculous man. best of luck.

You know what i was thinking by reading this? (besides Thailand food lol)
Most ppl after the flood cant even afford water or something to eat. But the main issue is that you got your stupid game (compared to the serious situation and the whole thing you know) with you. Didnt mean to offend you but some ppl just overdo that whole "passion for esports" thing.....

It was his BROTHER who took the game with him. Did you even read the post? And who are you to judge what comforting or homely stuff people take with them?
I really hope that you have done something significant to alleviate the situation in Thailand, because otherwise, on the other side of the earth you have no, whatsoever, justification to start criticizing an evacuee who is leaving his home.
Can you understand that? I don't mean to offend you but you sound like a self-righteous, pompous Equus asinus. Please reflect a bit on your post.

amen. He must have missed the whole car load full of other stuff to think the guy cares only about his game. It's not like the game is taking the place of a gold bar. Everyone has sentimental things that they value more than 1 extra t-shirt that they could fit in that space.

I didnt miss the post. And i know that he took a car load of important stuff. But this thread was clearly written for this one piece. Anyway i tried to let it sound not offending. But nice to see how ppl get upset just because you dont share their way of thinking. Enough said about this imo. If you want to flame me just do it over PM.

Sorry, i started to smile a little when i saw the SC2 copy and the PC in the trunk, don't know why. I've been following the situation somewhat, and it is indeed sucky one. Stay safe and hopefully this will be over soon.

No offend taken at all, my house is not burned down or anything. We just have to move away for a month until the water go down. People choose things that they think it is important to them, I took my pilow because I sleep very well with it. (Aside from cloth)

I posted a thread on this a few days ago. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=280631
The Tsunami was in 2004, I wouldn't consider it "recent". 20 typhoons is an exaggeration, there were heavy rainfalls throughout the whole monsoon season especially in September according to precipitation records, there were lots of windy storms, yes, but very few would even qualify for being a typhoon.
The water doesn't have to go through the capital, it's wouldn't really speed things up. It would be wiser to divert the water around it to minimize damage. People just thought they're so frigging smart and start tearing down the barriers that the volunteers just put up. Brilliant.
