Not sure if this deserved its own thread so I thought a quick blog would do.

But did anyone see Suwon Bluewings Vs All Sadd last night.

Effectively the Korean club was robbed, they had controlled the whole game with out scoring (or really looking that threatening to be honest) when All Sadd snatched a goal at the other end. Suwon then pilled on the pressure desperate to get an equalizer and an incident occurred in the All Sadd box where a Suwon player on the floor was landed on by one of the All Sadd players. It was quite nasty but I don't think entirely deliberate. The whole matched had been pretty nasty and the little Indian ref had no control of the game. Then as the injury was been attended to and I think there where still medical staff still on the pitch when the All Sadd players quickly played on and scored a cheap goal.

What should have then happened was the referee should have disallowed that goal. The fact that he seemed surprised and not ready himself to me implies that he hadn't singled that the match was ready to resume. But sneaky goals like that have been allowed before. ####ing Tranmere Rovers (dirty cheating northern bastards!) scored one that counted against my team a couple of years back.

I can understand the anger (it's just not sporting to sneak a goal like that) however what happened next was just unacceptable from both the Korean side and their fans. The Qatari players where basically repeatedly assaulted by Suwon players and staff and after the game Korean fans pelted anything they could find at the players from the stands.

Despite this someone how more All Sadd players got sent of than Suwon players. I think the ref felt guilty for allowing the goal or something.

Anyway the point as much as it must have been frustrating and its good to see Korean fans been passionate about the game, it's only a game.

I must say I was hugely biased towards Suwon watching the game but you can't help but feel sorry for the All Sadd players the way they got attacked for just taking part in a game of football.

Yeah I heard about this.

After seeing it, yeah, I'd beat those classless losers and maybe throw the ref in there for not doing his job, too. All he had to do was disallow it and it'd have been fine.

They weren't robbed. They were losing anyway, but the goal made sure they wouldn't equalise or win the game.

It is a shame that such bad sportsmanship was rewarded in the game. However, the ref could not and should not (and did not) disallow the goal. That would've been an actual travesty of refereeing rather than a travesty of gamesmanship (which happens from time to time in all sports). Suwon should've been alert to stop it and you can bet they are kicking themselves for being a little naive right now. Having said these thoughts on happenings within the game itself, I think the AFC and maybe the domestic federation governing Al Sadd should discipline the club and its players, perhaps giving a significant fine or suspension or forfeiture of AFC matches. It's not the ref's fault, and Suwon has to not let foul play hurt them again when it can be thwarted.

weren't the koreans playing on? so its ok for the koreans to play on, but not the other team? al sadd also had a player down, and they were signalling for the ball to be kicked out...bluewings decided to play on...

It's impossible to know from that video, since it's unclear whether the referee signaled for play to resume or not. If he didn't, and Al Sadd just took the throw-in from their own initiative, then it should be disallowed. Either way, the referee should have stopped the game for treatment when the injury happened, as a head injury was involved. That part was definitely bad refereeing.

Unfortunately, terrible refereeing and even worse sportsmanship are pretty common in the AFC, particularly when Middle Eastern clubs are involved.

Brawl allegedly began when Lee Jung-Soo (of Al-Sadd; South Korea veteran who scored against Greece in the World Cup) kept insisting to his teammates that they give Suwon a goal. Apparently he walked out of the stadium and released that he is expecting to leave Al-Sadd.

What I thought was more worthy of discussion was the violence from the Korean players and supporters. If the goal was legal or not and the referee made a bad decision or not in no way justifies attacking the other teams players. It’s disgraceful.

Yes, no doubt it was disgraceful but what more is there to discuss? It was a Champions League semi-final; they're all human and with emotions running high and so much at stake, to be robbed at point blanc and having it rubbed on your face with the second goal celebration you must have expected some sort of retaliation from the Suwon side. Too bad not enough players were mature enough to handle the situation, besides a select few (Al-Sadd captain, Lee Jung-Soo, etc. come to mind) but what are you gonna do.

Latest installment of the recent escapades of Korean football (match fixing scandal, etc). Good luck to Jeonbuk I guess.

Yeah I guess you're right Ibanez. Maybe they need more security in the stadiums to stop the crowd getting so carried away.

I believe when the incident happened (was a joke too, look at Al-Saad player, he lands on Suwon player's FACE with his right foot then he goes on to crying grabbing his left foot...??? WTF), Suwon player kicked the ball out for treatment. It is the RIGHT sportsmanship to give the possession back to Suwon, if not the rule. Al-Saad scored a cheap, very cheap goal, and even Suwon goalie was out of the box.

It is Suwon's fault for not stopping the fan from getting on the field, but watch the video again, Al-Saad player Keitaz? he punched or smacked the fan on the back of the head FIRST, then thats where the brawl started.
Im saying it again, Al-Saad player caused a PHYSICAL assault FIRST.
I don't know who is at fault, they both are, but you seem very biased against Suwon.
I've checked reactions around multi national forums, and only Japanese are flaming Suwon. funny aint it?

Agree with all of this. Maybe poor sportsmanship for not throwing the ball to them (i dislike that concept but whatever), but the injured guy was off the pitch. The game was live. it was plain and simple, a naive defensive lapse by suwon. No reason for ever completely forgetting where you're supposed to be, even in an injury, be it accidental or on purpose.

It looked a lot more like the Suwon players where the aggressors when I watched the game and the video. But I certainly wouldn't go as far as to say all of the All Sadd players are innocent.

To discuss the football a bit:
When I said they where robbed I meant more they dominated the game but ended up losing rather than that goal lost the game for them. Obviously they 1:0 down already that goal counting just shoved a little bit more salt in their wounds. It's also of course Suwon's fault for not managing to score with all the possession and dominance they had that they got robbed. That happens all the time.

I'm not a regular Suwon viewer but I watched this match and the derby with Seoul the other week and they didn't look very threatening in the final third in either game. They seem to shoot if they get remotely near the box instead of working the ball into a better position and almost inevitably sky the ball. They need a little more quality up front but I guess any really good Korean strikers (or indeed any talented player) move their asses to European leagues in search of more money.

Since I've been in Korea the league has been dominatted by Pohang, Jumbok, Suwon and Seoul. Is this the normal order of things are they the powerhouses of Korean football?
