There's nothing wrong with eating meat, but stay away from fast foods. It's the shittiest thing you can do to your body and fast foods packs a shit ton of calories. Just one big mac + coke + large fries contain more calories than a healthy breakfast + healthy lunch + healthy dinner.

DO NOT DIET! FUCK DIET! If you like eating meat, do so, but not excessively and you need to exercise -- change your lifestyle. You do not need to go extreme on this. Just a daily 30 -45min work out will do! BUT IT HAS TO BE DAILY! Make it a habit and your body will become acustomed to it and your metabolism will improve and you'll burn quite some fat, but obviously not overnight. Commitment is required on your part if you want to be lean and healthy.

You love eating and always feeling hungry? Eat canned tuna! It has 0% fat. Meaning you could eat all you want. However, as awesome as that sounds. I suggest combining it with salad, tomato to add some taste or otherwise you'll get sick of it really fast. Do not add salt to it, as salt plays a major role in the whole make-you-fat.

Again, it's all about dedication, commitment and self-esteem. If you can find all those 3, you'll get closer to your goal every day.

Uh what?

While tuna isn't high calorie, if I started eating 20-30 of those little albacore tuna cans (as in thats all I'm eating) I'd get fat in a hurry.

I know a lot of people around that height and weight and they don't even look close to overweight.

Depends on what you mean by overweight. If we are talking about a healthy weight range at which you look fine then no, its not really overweight. If we mean overweight as in over the optimum weight for performance then yes, its somewhat overweight. If a guy is 5'8", six-pack, 7% BF type of guy he is going to be pretty damn big. The type of look that you think damn, this guy spends some serious time in the gym.

As an adolescent, food matters a lot less than it normally would. Obviously, you can't eat an exorbitant amount of food, but you don't really have to watch what you eat so long as you work out.

Personally, I hate going outside so I stick to the gym.

You just need to stop eating fast food man. Fast food everyday literally slows you down... your metabolism, your thinking, your energy levels.

If you want to stop eating fast food, but don't really know how to cook, your can pan fry (saute) chicken breasts and vegetables. You can also microwave a sweet potato for a healthy carb.

Just try stuff like that. You can saute egg plant, zuchini, etc. and a lot of broccoli, cauliflour and carrots come in steamable bags. Pork chops and chicken are also easy to saute, just cut them open to see that they are cooked.

Never drink any other beverage other than water. Unless it's a special occasion e.g. big party. Water is so good -- drinking more will make it easier to lose weight too as you need to be hydrated to effectively use muscles and it feels so good.

I only drink other beverages for the social benefits. I don't ever get myself any soda shit or Gatorade garbage, however good people say it is. I don't put any sugar in my coffee either -- black is better.
I like corsairs.

Yeah you don't need to do anything drastic. Just start out small.

Cut out the drinks - except for water, and maybe skim milk or 2%.

Then, cut out all the empty calories you're eating. Replace them with veggies, meats, whatever you know is good.

Then work on portion control such as eating only when you're hungry. Cutting down on mindless snacking.

At the same time you're doing all this, just exercise lightly on the bike or play a fun aerobic sport like basketball or badminton (lol). This will accelerate the results.

Most of all, set aside a meal where you can eat a dessert or something you crave. It becomes something that you look forward to, as sort of a "reward" for staying healthy. Although, you don't need to do this, as being healthy is a good enough reward imo. GL! Losing weight is an honorable goal for the period of time we're living in.

You don't lose weight by dieting. When you diet you lose something. Also, when you try to lose weight your losing something. When you lose something you're habitually programmed to look for it. Get rid of the idea of losing weight. Start to see yourself in the body you want to live in. Begin to think, feel, and act like the person you want to be in your ideal body. You will see tremendous progress.

Haha I know you are already getting a lot of love in this thread already but I figure more love can't hurt. I know it is pretty hard to control your diet especially when most of your meals are probably dependent on your family. The number one thing you can control is what you are drinking.

Also you are so young, are there any sports you are interested? Once you get into high school you should definitely try to get on a sports team! (and if you want to get on a team that can be motivation for you to start eating better and exercising more)

0 fat? Who cares?

Fat has nothing to do with weight loss...

It's entirely a matter of calories in vs calories out. I could eat nothing but butter and lose weight, and I could eat nothing but tuna, apples, etc, and gain weight. The only way fat affects weight loss is that fat is a source of calories, 9 cal per gram. However, carbs and protein also contain calories so fat is not the only source.

In sum, calories control weight loss/gain. Not amount of fat, not amount of sugars, etc.

Get rid of the idea of losing weight. Start to see yourself in the body you want to live in.

This I'm okay with, nothing at all wrong with that.

No, he won't. Unless he changes his eating/exercises habits. I'm not convinced seeing yourself in the body you want will result in someone changing their eating habits or exercise patterns.

Actually, seeing yourself in the body you want is the key to changing your eating and exercising habits. If you just change them to simple lose weight, there will be no motivation and you will end up looking for the weight after you lose it. Do you think its an accident most people who go on a diet and lose weight typically gain back most of the weight and in some cases even more weight than they lose?

What is motivating an individual and keeping them working towards their goal of losing weight? Is it the vision of themselves in the body they want or the excitement that comes from visioning yourself dieting?

Definitely don't disagree there. However, you actually have to make the changes and start controlling your exercising/weight loss. I can envision myself in the most awesome body I want but if I keep eating the same and not exercising I'm never going to achieve that. What your advocating certainly helps people to make those changes, but if you don't actually make a change you can't get anywhere

If you just change them to simple lose weight, there will be no motivation and you will end up looking for the weight after you lose it

I have no idea what this means, namely the part about looking for the weight.

My pieces of advice, as somebody who was chubby through school:

Diet: No, not "eat way less" but more than anything find CLEAN things to eat. Hopefully your parents do (are willing, if asked) stock the house with some healthy food items. Fast food is a big no no.

Your optimum choices here are lean meats (fish, chicken, less red meat), piles of vegetables, some fruit, and then some whole grains (oats, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, quinoa)

Something that was VERY helpful for me was calorie counting. Don't try to drastically lower the amount of calories you are getting per day (unless you're eating ~3000+) but keep track of what you eat, and where your calories are coming from. If you're not exercising much, you don't want to be getting 2000 calories a day in fats and simple sugars. That will dump straight onto your body.

Exercise: There are about a million options here, and you will need to find what you like. The important part, more than anything, is just doing SOMETHING.

There are of course the obvious choices of joining a team sport, either at school or in the community. However, being a chubby kid at heart myself, I know this can seem very daunting, at least at first. Do keep it in mind though, because not only is it great exercise, it's a lot of fun, and you'll meet people.

However, if this isn't your cup of tea, you have other options.
Judging by what you said (5'8'', ~160), you should try to add some muscle mass to your body. Look into local community rec centres for introductions to weight lifting, or maybe your school has a gym, or even a strength training class (mine did, maybe yours does too?)

If you're going to look into weight lifting, MAKE SURE TO GET TAUGHT. Weights are an amazing tool for fitness, but at the same time, it's important to make sure you get shown the proper way to use them. Like any tool, weights can be dangerous if used improperly.

At the same time, there are TONS of exercises you can do with nothing but your body. Calisthenics are a great example.

THIS SITE has tons of information for body weight based exercising. Meet the burpee. He is your king. As well, I love this site because of the time factor. You can do an exhausting workout in 15-20 minutes in your own home. Hard to beat that.

Finally, you have the options of simply doing some cardio. Running, swimming, biking. All are good options, though not my personal favourites (just my own preference, really)

Finally, one more fun one, in the vein of team sports is martial arts. I started practicing MMA a few years back and it's been great. I'm stronger, thinner, healthier, and fitter than ever before in my life. I went from 5'9.5'' and about 190-195 down to 170, and reasonably lean.

If you have any questions about ANYTHING, don't hesistate to PM me. I love this stuff, and I lvoe SC2. Balance in life is possible. Plus, you will FEEL better for making these changes in your life. Good food is good for the soul, and the brain.

You should be less concerned with being overweight and more concerned about eating yourself into an early grave. If you're eating fast food you're probably eating a lot of saturated/trans fat, a lot of red meat, very little fiber, very little nutrients, etc. I wonder what kills you first, a heart attack or colon cancer.

I think it's due to eating only fast food

I think this is probably the easiest way to fix things. You would be surprised at how much healthy food you could get for a week compared to how much eating fast food costs when added up throughout that week. Just make it a point to your parents that you want to lose weight and I bet anything they will help you with this endeavor.

If you're 5'8" and 157lbs, then you're underweight.

Read this book: http://www.amazon.com/Starting-Strength-2nd-Mark-Rippetoe/dp/0976805421/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318052389&sr=8-1

Then spend an hour at the gym three times a week.

What the hell is up with the OP. 160 pounds isn't overweight unless you are ~10 years old or something.

What disturbs me even more is that most of the people in this thread offer advice ignoring this fact.

Bulk up a bit, smash some tasty pies into that bony vampire face.

Change your diet. Fast food is very high in calories, but super low in nutrition -- so your body keeps craving more nutrition.

I lost some weight (about 4lbs or so, but I was pretty decent weight prior to this change) over the course of a few months just from a simple diet change. I didn't exercise at all and I had really weird sleeping hours. I just kept hydrated and stopped eating unhealthy foods.

I eat muesli with soymilk almost every morning. It's a cheap and healthy breakfast. :D
