After getting out of class at 12pm I quickly headed over to pick up my brand new pc and my first copy of sc2. So far I have completed 3 campaign missions and 1 practice match. My old comp died ealier this week and I was pretty bummed untill i relized this was an excuse to splurg and get my hands on sc2. After setup and install I am now ready to do my very first placement :o
Some history: I played sc:bw for about 10 years, hitting c+ on iccup, I won some local tournies and would get smashed by people like testie/grrr... every chance i could manage.
How do you guys think I will place? I'm starting soon and will attempt to 1-1-1 my way to the top of a pile of nerds. My mechanics are kinda trash, tho my apm is sill 180ish, its hard to get used to scvs that automine o.o. Any advice?
I'm still fiddling with settings for the next little bit trying to find health bars x.x
edit: 1 match over. It was a tvt and I had early success with a red flame drop, lost the vac like a noob tho. Next he counters with a thor, scvs' and marines. For some reason I had no idea how fukin tough thor's are. That thing cleaned up half my army before i relized he was repairing it. After this I had a macro advantage but my orbital was delayed because i didnt relize u cant make scv and orbital at the same time. I moved out with a medivac, 2 of those anti air things that land a walk around, 6-7 marines and 3 tanks intending to elevator into he's main to target he's structures, as soon as I begin the drop he moves in my expo with another thor push. Tanks don't seem as potent as they did in broodwar tvt. the thor soaked up alot and my defending tanks went down fast. It was too late to rebuild and a base race ensued. I gg'ed after losing all my tech structures and another thored spawned which cleaned up my army.
This dude was bad, but i was worse. I think I overcomplicated the game by attempting to elevator when I should have went to the front. All this could have been prevented if i had just used one of the towers. Any tips for tvt vs thor? I havent seen them used in tvt since like gomtv season one o.o I was also surpirsed by how easy he recovered from drops. I killed alot of scvs. Go mules?
Edit 2: 2nd placement match complete. It was a tvz and my macro won the day. My first encounter with banelings went well. My first attack came about 20 seconds before baneling speed finished and i was able to stutter step and target down the banes cause they were still low in number.
I think he was planning a bust and wasnt preparded for an early push. I 2 raxed tech add and later reactor. I stayed on 1 gas untill just before the first attack timing my cc around same time as 2nd gas and factory. After securing expansion i teched medvacs +1 atk and had combat shields from the first attack. I nearly lost the game to the large number of banelings and my terrible anti-spreading but my macro overpowered him in late game as I had taken the gold expansion and he was still on 2 base 2 hatch muta/bane/ling
TvZ was very similar to the broodwar tvz; at least from my limited terran perspected.
edit 3: 3rd game down, uneventfull tvp. 2 factory hellion tank. Hellions suck pretty bad vs blink stalker but dude was bad and had no macro. 2-1 so far.
Edit 4: On a roll now, starting to get used to the mule timing and automine. Last game was another tvt. This guy was alot better then the guy I lost my first match too, tvt is alot different but im learning fast. This game lasted 36 mins an I was saved by 2 bc's which poped out just in time as my army was being wiped out after a battle. I had managed to kill 90% of he's rines and micro'd the bc's with 1-2 tanks pushing back he's tanks from my ramp. A Hidden expo and some mules won me the game.
3-1 and i got a "hot streak solo" award for winning 3 games xD
Time for a break to watch some SC2.
edit5: Just won my last match. It was a tvp and they tried some cannon cheese that got shut down by 2 marine and 7-8 scvs. That puts me at 4-1 the result???
hmm is that good or bad? =/
i know its master then grand master but what comes before? diamond plat?
