Seriously I'm not sure what keeps me uninstalling Starcraft 2 anymore. Every game is a ragefest, I must be on a 20 loss streak right now, I am messing around in ladder, recently got demoted to Platinum from Diamond, right now playing Random, losing to everything on any matchup on any map, seriously if I didn't buy my new computer recently, I'd fucking burn it to pieces with this rage right now. I don't even care anymore, lost the game? Alright, quit and start again and to lose that again.....
What should I do? I still like the game, I've got the mechanics to play with all three races, it's just that my timings, my decisions and my planning sucks almost everytime. I just don't know what to do. If WoW didn't suck so much and was comparable to the Vanilla-BC times, I'd say to hell with this game I'm playing WoW, but since it sucks so much right now, I have no idea. Single player games only go for so long.

Is this a venting thread or a thread that is looking for help?
If it's a venting thread, just understand that what you're feeling is natural and every 'good' gamer has gone through it. The people that get through it are the people that reach a completely different level of mastery of the game.
If it's a help thread, then just post a few replays and we can analyze and work out mistakes and improve your game.
|
If your timings and decision-making are not good then arguably you do not have the mechanics to play all three races. If you're just messing around on ladder, why are you getting mad at losing for not trying your hardest?
|
Yer in Gold good chap. If you have mechanics (pardon me for not taking your word for it), stop making decisions and just macro for a while.
I've never had timings or any sort of planning and I play in high masters. IMO stop bothering with being smart for a while and just macro like a beast.
|
Macro doesn't help when Terran slowpushes you to death and you gotta deal vikings and all that thing, tank positioning....it gives me nightmares..
Macro only helps to some degree.
|
I'd suggest picking a race aswell, and not taking the games that seriously for now, the more games you play without stressing the more you will learn about your race's mechanics etc, and what your opponents in gold are doing.

Sounds like you actually don't have the mechanics to play all three races well. You should realize that and focus on one if you want to be competitive, or just keep randoming and enjoying that you will always get different games all the time, but will never truly focus on improving one race

I am not in an environment to improve at all. None of my RL friends play SC2, I don't have too many ladder friends since contrary to what people think, practice partner thread does nothing to help you find people...even if they are online they are either busy or something.. then I just can't improve. I am not sure what to do for the first time since retail I'm playing players from gold..I'm that bad right now. I started Protoss, was absolutely terrible. Switched to Zerg, made to Diamond last December. After another huge losing streak, switched Terran, and got to diamond about a month ago. Now I'm losing left and right and don't know what to do.

seriously… if you lose you won’t be too upset.. if you win you will be happy.. you may even get your opponent to rage instead. Play some 3v3s or 4v4s… playing games on tilt will just make you more upset when you lose.

Macro only helps to some degree. I'm pretty sure I could get at the very least high diamond doing just bio as T or meching with terrible army management. Can't imagine a player with decent macro not getting out of gold even with poor control.

It doesn't when they camp at a choke and sit there for whole game. I try to go around, find openings to harrass...but he has tanks there aswell...I do some damage, kill some buildings, then lose my army. I've never felt this desperate, this hopeless, this angry playing this game. I just wish I never switched races. It fucked me up in the long run. I'm a fucking idiot.

I don't like cheese. I like playing straight up, I take risks only when there is a clear opening where I can see it'll probably work.

Exactly... as I said u answered ur own question. U wonder why u lose when u say u got the mechanics (basics) to play with all 3 races but don't really know any timings or anything with the races. Well that's about gold/plat level I'm not too amazed about that. It also sounds like u got some mentality issues while playing, u gotta play to win, otherwise there is no point in playing at all. Breaks help a lot, sometimes when I play bad, I just take a break for a week or a few days. And usually I play much better after that break.
U want to improve? Pick a race, learn some builds, practice those builds every game, u will get to masters. It's not that hard really, there's like 3 of these threads every day.

Biggest issue was picking a race. I switched races whenever I hit a block...And now I hit a massive block and there is no option but going back to P (which I could do...P has fun units and looks great on Ultra settings....but PvP sucks) or Random. My confidence is so terrible with T right now that I just don't know if it'll matter. Actually, I just hate to know that I've been in diamond a month ago and soon to be Gold. If I get out of gold with T, what's the point I've already been there, it's my own idiocy that got me down. I'd feel even worse when I got back to Diamond to T knowing that.

i didn't say change you philosophy behind your game play. I was just making a suggestion to try and make the game more fun and less stressful for you..
I lol'd at your comment about taking a risk that will 'probably work' If that were the case you wouldn't have lost 20 games in a row.. you're obviously doing something wrong or your assessment of what will 'probably work' is way off

Stop beating yourself up.
This game is fun. Why would you play it if you're not having fun? -TLO
If your goal is to get better, than you need to take steps to analyze your play properly and identify where your weak points are. Are you losing to army size/composition, timing attacks, or are there other factors?
I don't want to sit here and repeat what everyone says, but I will anyway. SC2 is easy to learn, but hard to master. Losing streaks happen. Take it as an oppurtunity to learn from the mistakes you make.
|
If the game isn't fun for you then you need to stop playing.
You will not get better at a game if it doesn't bring you joy to play it. Without joy you wont care enough to get better.

U sir, are depressed and I know u realize it urself as well.
Getting help (and I ain't saying this to offend u at all) may be good, but u ultimately have to find the thing that'll get ur life going again. Keep looking - don't give up - and in the meantime hang in there tight, stop beating urself up because there will be the light at the end of the tunnel - one can only sink so low before they hit the ground and bounce/jump up from there.
As for SC2, despite ur own claim u do not have the mechanics down. I'd suggest watching the pros (GSL, etc) and learn from them. Until then it's pointless continuing to play blind.
Why keep hitting a wall with a hammer when u can't see the nail? (Unless u're just being destructive) Good luck.

Just play games you know you will lose (carrier rush etc.) and if you win laugh at the enemy, if you lose go oh lol that was fun.

Thanks alot, I actually had a similar conversation with my dad...I guess I need to find a new goal...Losing weight was the last really big goal I had and after that I'm kinda left empty besides graduating and getting a job, and that's more depressing than fun tbh to me.
As for mechanics, what I meant was hotkeys etc, and I rarely get supply blocked. My macro isn't bad. I just don't know how to utilize it lately.

well it sounds like you need to improve and you are getting beat by players that are better than you, if your timings, decisions and planning all "suck" maybe you shouldn't have been in diamond did you take a long break from sc2?

I've switched races. Since retail, P for 2-2,5months (I got to Plat at most, that was a long time ago and I was terrible), then Z for another 3-4 months (got to diamond at most, around december), then I switched T, demoted to Plat, and got to diamond at most again. It just took a long streak of TvZs losses, which were on a day that people miraculously decided to play only zerg. And after that, less confidence, less caring, more despair and it kept going downhill.
I also don't play as much as I could. I watch streams and tourneys much more. I'm aware I'm not great, but I was able to beat these players that I lose right now that are way worse than me if I was playing my potential. It's also weird, when you lose games you match with lower players and they have much more tendancy to play randomly and it catches you offguard.

5 rax off one base isn't cheese
|
It's my personal opinion that everyone should have something to be excited about with the work they do, since we'll be spending at least 8 hours of every weekday there. Looking for something that holds interest for u within ur work field may very be worth it. If that requires 1-2 extra education (ie. masters, etc) to do, I'd say go for it.
Well sounds like u got a pretty solid base to work with. I recommended watching pro games 'cause even though u're looking at specific builds with any given match, after watching 10+ games, u'll begin to get a sense of what each build will do. U need to get familiar with each popular opening builds (and there ain't that many per race), and shouldn't be too hard for u to pick it up since u already play all 3 races.
Also if u're having trouble with terrans playing tank pressure builds, u'll find plenty of examples of counter-builds on pro games.
