I apologize for not posting many blogs recently, I've just been really overwhelmed with so many events!
PAX, driving back to school, unpacking and starting my classes, I've barely had a chance to breathe! Admittedly, I haven't even come close to finishing unpacking, my room, it's an utter disaster right now and sadly lacking all of my posters and other decor.
Despite being overwhelmed at the moment, it seems like this year is going to be the most lax one I've had. Makes sense, as it's my senior year! This means I'll have more time to pursue some ambitions of mine. These are:
1) Completing my baneling costume, the fabric is glaring at me to come play with it right now (so green!!!)
2) Learning skills that would let me apply for a job at Riot
3) Starting that gaming article website I've talked about for so long
While the first one is pretty much a certain, the other two aren't right now. On Friday, I do have plans to go back to Riot HQ's and I am hoping I can start learning right there. It's not an internship exactly, it's a "well, you can bring her to work if you want" kind of thing that I am planning to take total advantage of.
Starting the website I've been planning is going to be the most difficult endeavor and one that still excites me greatly. My passion for video games is immense and I would love to create something that would assist and entertain gaming communities. It's hard to know where to start, but I am lucky enough to be supported by many amazing people with a large set of skills and knowledge, so I think I can figure it out. If anyone is interested in writing articles or assisting with website design, please PM me! ;D
Anyway, this randomness was brought on by an e-mail I found floating around in my inbox from a month ago that really impassioned me:
Riku, After stumbling upon your Nidalee cosplay thread in the general forums, I was impressed by how well you communicate with your fans. Finding your blog, I see this is just who you are, a social game enthusiast with passion. Have you thought about applying to Riot? I could see you as a community coordinator, or someone like Nikasaur who records a weekly show. You had mentioned in a blog post that you had considered creating a website. If gaming is your passion, as it seems to be, you really should be heading there in your future, not mechanical engineering. I'd love to see a youtube series with you discussing fan feedback, answering questions, or just highlighting some clips from your games. There are very few summoners in the forums with your social ability, and I believe Riot would take swift notice of that. They need someone who can communicate socially without sounding like a troll most of the time (coughPhreakcough). Just some food for thought. I wish you well and hope to see more of the star potential you have waiting. -Summoner ___
I realize not everyone feels similarly about my writing, but I don't think anyone can deny my passion. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to see what I can get going and I'll be certain to keep everyone updated (especially about my baneling outfit!).
;D

I've seen that thread of yours on the League of Legends forums. Its getting more ridiculous by the post. If you actually read all it I am awed since I could only manage a few pages.
As for the job at Riot from what I know I think it would be pretty likely you could find work there. They have grown far more then they anticipated and are hiring people left and right and still don't have enough people. Not to mention due to aforementioned gigantic thread your already quite well known. So I think it will go over well for you =) Good luck anyway though I doubt you shall need it.

Actually, it's recently just turned into a chat about engineering and robotics...
O.o;
I just feel bad if I don't respond to people, so it is still alive. All... 164 pages of it?
I'm glad you feel that way about Riot! Hopefully, spending some time there really checking out the company will let them see me in action, too!

I think you'd do great as community relations. Give it a shot.

well, that's a way in several places to get a job i guess.. but the question then is, would you really want the job because of that, or rather (in case of riot for instance) because you like to participate in game dev? because if you get the job (more or less) for looks only, i don't think you will a lot of do game dev.. ;P

There are almost(or already) 7 billion people on the earth and wanting everybody to like you or what you do is impossible. 99% of the bloggers and writers out there don't even interest me in the slightest, yet it is their passion and what they commited to that deserves great respect and recognition.
Even if I will never visit your site and never really care about what you as an individual do because you're just another teamliquid member for me, I sincerely encourage you to do what you want to do and what you feel is the best for you without ever thinking "But what if other people don't like me?".
There will be haters, there will be people that flame the sh*** out of your work, but there will be people who will love what you do and also there will be people (like me) that at least have big respect for what you do.
So think about it, and if you feel like this is what you want to do, then get it started! Hope that helped! Otherwise, it's kinda just my way to say "Good luck".

We shall see! I don't know if I could get a community relations position, though. Right now I'm aiming more for the technical departments!

I'm quite interested in supporting Riot as a technical person. Their company is well run and based on a good set of morals. While I am also passionate about community relations and the like, I don't think I'm in a position to pursue that without coming off poorly.

Here, I sketched this in class. I have a lot of adjustments to make, though. Damn pen...

Now that I'd like to see. The costume is both midriffy and hippy, which is great.
If you're feeling ambitious with the lighting of the sacs, I'd consider a simple LED circuit powered by a battery. You can also easily hide it in your butt (there was no better way to say that, lol). Obviously you know enough to be able to do that, and make sure to have a few parallel loops in case you knock one of them out when moving around. I'd use separate circuits entirely for the head and/or shoulders. Don't use clear plastic for the sacs because it won't spread the light around. The cost would probably be peanuts too.
BTW I think long black gloves would really complement the costume. Your call.
