Ok, so I'm making this blog out of pure joy and I wanted to share my success with the peoples of the internet. So my best friend and I are really the only gamers among our group of friends. We have played games together for a very long time. From 2008 to Summer of 2010 we were both avid WoW players who raided and did arena with each other. Then SC2 came out and I quit WoW and dove into the magical world that is the Starcraft scene and community. My best friend however, did not. Despite being a big fan of RTS games such as C&C and AoE, he stuck with WoW and decided to not follow me out of WoW and into SC. I was very disappointed because for the first time in my gaming career, I had no one I knew in real life that I could share my frustrations/triumphs with. When we were playing WoW and one of us did something cool, we would msg the other to say "HEY DOOD, CHECK THIS SHIT OUT!" but in SC, when the day came I got promoted, or when I got a new portrait, there was nobody to share in my triumph with. I also didn't have anybody to play legit 2v2 with who I could converse with on Skype during games.
So two days ago he tells me he is quitting WoW and has been looking hard at the SC2 box every day at Best Buy where he works. I was thrilled and urged him to buy it. He did, we have been playing for the past two days, and I think he really really likes it. We watched a couple of pro streams while on skype and he was incredulous at the level of play. He is not terrible, as he understands the way RTS games work, but his game knowledge and mechanics are pretty bad, but he has promise and is really enjoying himself. I have helped him quite a bit and introduced him to Day9, TL, streams, and a bunch of other good stuff. He placed into silver 1v1, and we as a 2v2 team got into silver, I'm plat so I'm helping out quite a bit, but we are having a lot of fun.
I know stuff like this happens all the time and this post is really long-winded and probably uninteresting, but I was just so excited that I recruited a new person to SC2 and got them into the scene that I had to type it up.
Will probably update this as he progresses just because I think its going to be interesting to see him develop and learn the game. Thx!

A friend of mine bought SC2 and I spent like a whole night teaching him openings and BOs.
Then I got tired and linked him to Day[9]'s Newbie Tuesday for beginners.

I tried doing something along the same lines with one of my best friends, but it didn't really end up working out. He likes to play the game casually, but I could never get him in to like I am. He managed 75ish posts on his TL account years ago playing BW with me, but then just kind of dropped it. Glad to hear you and your friend are enjoying the game together though.

Sorta reminds me of me and my best friend and getting into SC. He introduced me and such (he plays WoW, I don't, I was more of a console guy) to this wonderful game, but he didn't really know much about the pro scene and neither of us had much RTS experience. We played for fun, 2v2's and in bronze, of course, but then I began playing more 1v1's and getting into the pro scene, watching streams and Day9 and such. So obviously, I began improving at a much faster rate. He always used to beat me and when I began to beat him, he got angry etc etc.
I tried to show him this whole professional side of things but he just got angrier and eventually stopped playing the game all together (he's very stubborn). Sort of ironic how the guy who introduced me to the game doesn't play it anymore while I still do.
Luckily, some of my other friends got into the game so I still have people to relate to when it comes to StarCraft in general.
