So today, after working on some macro stuff recommended to me by some fine people here at TL.net, I decided to hop on ladder and play some games. I played a match against another Protoss player on Tal Darim Altar to start off.
PvP. I love PvP, pretty much my favorite match-up thus far. To my surprise, I hadn't played a single Zerg opponent since Season 3 started. Where did they go? Oh well, I'm sure I'll play some in the Silver league soon. I lost the first game, unfortunately. My opponent went for a FFE while I stayed in one base and went 3 gate robo to late expand. By the time I scouted his base the third time, it was filled with cannons and I saw 2 stargates. Uh oh. I tried to make blink stalkers as fast as I can, with my observer up in his base so I could blink up to the high ground. I had no idea he was upgrading his Void Rays, so my first offensive push failed.
Later in the match, I tried to resort to Warp Prism zealot harass in his mineral line. While it worked flawlessly, he came back with his Void Rays and attempted to counter my mineral line in return. I thwarted it pretty well and he was down to 4 Void Rays. Sadly, I found out later in the game that he had hidden expansions EVERYWHERE, and I had absolutely no idea about it. I should have scouted better . He ended up winning the game with overwhelming numbers of Void Rays.
0-1 today.
But this next game, I played with a guy named HellsJanitor on Shakuras Plateau. Again, it was another Protoss.
I started up with the exact same build as last game, then I saw something in his base that made me very happy: and expansion. I proceeded to use Warp Prism harass and attack with a small force of Stalker/Sentry simultaneously. I think I did a pretty good job distracting him, and he left without a GG.
Replay
1-1.
So far, I had an interesting start to say the least. But my gameplay style and macro could be better. Let me know what you guys think of my gameplay! I appreciate any kind of criticism, it will help me in the long run.
The first game was a little long, so i decided not to upload it. Plus, it was my own fault I lost the game, so I knew what I was doing wrong.
Thanks!

what.the.fuck. FFE in PvP?

Just as a note... 3gate robo is the correct and crushing response to a ffe in PvP (something you won't ever see at higher levels)... but as soon as that robo finishes make a warp prism, load up 4 stalkers in it.. fly it into his main and drop those stalkers off and warp in more... you win every time because he won't have any defenses up.

Yeah in the lower leagues you tend to see wacky builds, I for one just use whatever I can to gain the upper hand and counter whatever they do. FFE in PvP is not common in Gold and above I think, but here in Silver many people do it. That's why i usually win PvP, they expand so quickly so my initial push tends to do a whole lot of damage.
PvT though, I see more 2-3 rax marine/marauder pressure than anything. ANYTHING. Only about 3 games in my entire life have I seen banshee harass and drop play. I counter MMM pretty well, but in the long macro games I tend to slip up and stick to gateway units :\.
PvZ, very often do I see Roach/ling all-in. Nothing else really. My opponents tend to over-commit to whatever I have (they see ONE void ray, and mass hydras). It gives me an upper hand most of the time, since lings and roaches are pretty easy to counter. I just hate Mutas. Absolutely hate them.

Maybe you didn't bother reading the title "Silver League"?

Protip: don't fast expand in PvP

Cant really give you any tip for PvP but I can tell you something. Just find a build order to 4 gates. Practice it as your only build for any matchup. You can do pretty well with that, and by practicing on build only you can really get it going very smooth you can actually focus on improving your weakness.
After 4 gate, pick another build, lets say 3 gate expand, do it all over again vs everything. Give a build 10 games or so you can get good really fast if you know what you are doing.

I've seen FFE PvP from gold and plat players, but it's not the same as a PvZ FFE, you fake a cannon rush and you can win if your opponent overreacts.

The thing is, unit composition for early game protoss is wacky. I have no idea how to mix and match, and usually luck gets me through the early game. I tend to have 3 wgates out, and I scratch my head as to what unit I need to warp in. 2 Stalker 1 sentry? 1 sentry 2 zealot? or 1 of each?
It's complicated to me and something I gotta learn to get used to. I don't usually do FFE very often or at all, but when I do I tend to do it against Terran. It's risky though, some Terran pushes with marauder heavy force with conc shell, and its near impossible to stop it.

Hey! I just recently picked up playing Zerg, and I find that most of my opponents are Terran, no Protoss. I am not sure if you are looking for a partner, but I would be more than willing to practice with you in order to fill that lack of experience thing. I am also a silver league player.

Oh crap I forgot to reply to my own blog lol. Sorry, been pretty busy with a local SC2 tournament the last few days, but thanks for the offer PirateMoomin, I'd be happy to have a practice partner in the same league as I. It would help me too since my PvZ isn't that great. My best match-up is PvP and worst is still PvT. You can add me online in NA server if you want and I'll pm you my info so you can add later.
