Yes, you heard it right. I have beaten a Korean zerg on fish server sealing my first victory on fish. It's been a while since the last time I did a battle report (it was another ZvZ celebrating my D+). Anyway, without further ado, let's get to the battle report.

WARNING: Image heavy spoilers.

The game started on Fighting Spirit, I was at 7 o'clock and he was at 11 o'clock.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

We both opted for a 12 hatch 11 pool 11 gas (lol, it is actually 10 gas for ZvZ but we both messed up)

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Upon scouting, I thought that he did a gas before pool (11g10p) after 12 hatch, but it's just he is behind in all of the build. Because I thought that it might be a 11g10p and he might go lair first, I decided to go speed first, put a 3rd hatch and ling allin him.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

My initial plan was to attack right after speed finishes (I mean, not before), at least kill the spire and/or 2nd hatch, but my ultimate goal was to win outright. But what I did was this: I just a-moved all my lings into his nat (did not rally lol), thought I might get superior numbers because of his later pool and kill his lings with a better control. And this actually happened.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

And this is the part where I blew my own mind in style. I tried to run by lings, through a wall of drones, JUST TO SEE HIS MAIN. Here is the best part: I already see his main because of my overlord. But that turned out to be good too, because it took his attention away from his natural hatchery and I killed it with reinforcement lings.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Dat overlord micro

Highlight of the game: I managed to get 2 of my lings stuck at the infamous place at his natural.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

And, I killed all his drones and all his base and he left without gg.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Well, I didn't think that Koreans leave without gg, but I guess they don't gg a 3 hatch ling allin ZvZ. In ZvZ, I'm actually a muta player and I hate early ling timings, but still I gg them. He should have gg'd too, because with that control, he would lose anyway in muta vs muta battle (my muta control is not top notch, but it's still better than my ling control, I played more muta vs muta ZvZ than ling vs ling and I have a better win percentage in muta vs muta).

So basically, that's it. And, here is the replay link if you're interested: http://repdepot.net/replay.php?id=43055

Thank you for reading or scrolling down.

TL;DR: I played with this korean, made stupid things, got lucky, I won. I'm bad, he was worse, here is the replay.

There are good Koreans and bad Koreans. I never understood why people fear Koreans on a D level or why there are "1vs1 C- no Koreans" games. A D level Korean is just as strong as a D level foreigner.

Apart from that: Congratulations! :3

Hehe love the post count, and cool battle report ^^.

I wish I knew how to check people's accounts on Fish, so I know what kinda a player I've faced down.

Not exactly. Even 'D level' is higher during the korean timezone just because the playerbase that's on at that time is different. I always had a lot more success on iCCup when I played at night during NA times.

There are still koreans at every skill level though, including sub D-.

This isnt true. I must have played like 2000 1v1 games on ICCUP over the years. Assuming 600 of those were koreans within my skill level (C- high) I can tell you how many ive actually beaten....Ready ?

For this reason alone, I'll never ever ever play fish. When Iccup dies im done with BW.

I had similar feelings to the day when I got my first iccup victory (5 pooled a Terran on cross positions fighting spirit without scouting his starting position and he ate that ). Until this one, I tried a fake hydra bust to kill someone's forge and gateway, i couldn't find the sweet spot with the range upgraded hydras, ended up dealing some damage, instead of backing off and playing a normal game, I massed hydras and 1a2a3a'ed into his storms and lost. People don't join my games too much T_T

not really.
a few seasons ago I barely hit C and I checked out my statistics of vs foreigners and vs koreans

iirc,
vs Foreigners I was something like 18-3
vs Koreans I was something like 17-16

I played mostly korean hours.

also@OP
no gg is very very common.
if im lucky I get no gg.
if its a normal day I get "fuk u stupid nooby lucky ass" in korean with the occasional force disc
if i hit the jackpot I get a gg, which is maybe once every 6 games or so.

Wow really, I got pretty lucky then

I've lost count of how many times i've reviewed my matchlist to find i've just played vs a 20-30 D+ Korean who executes build orders perfectly with everything on time, have superb timing attacks, and excellent macro. Their armies NEVER stops moving all the while they are keeping their minerals below 500.

Play vs a 20-30 D+ non-korean and you see them late on stuff, they make too many cannons and play very passively. Their build orders are clumsy when compared against their korean counterparts and when its time to fight, its not uncommon to see their minerals pass 1000 while their gateway count is low.

How can you explain that ?

If D+ koreans are so much better than D+ foreigners then how come the D+ koreans aren't C- or the D+ foreigners aren't D? The ranks are assigned according to results, the only way two groups can have the same rank is to post the same results. Assuming they play each other, barring no hard time zone barriers, a D rank is a D rank. While I did notice some stylistic changes at the B+ level that isn't really likely to be relevant, a D+ is a casual user and their nationality is unlikely to impact how much/little they care about the game if they're at D+.

That's exactly what creates the difference.

It's not a huge difference (and I certainly would hit a lot more smurfs/highranks on their way up during korean times, so that adjusts it), but I won more games if I was up in the middle of the night playing players I otherwise would never see in a different timezone.

The explanation is that its totally not true and the whole "non-korean rank inflation" thing is a total myth, as a matter of fact, i have much better winrates vs koreans because they play much more standard and more "correct" hence all the timings and game flow goes much more as planned as opposed to foreigners who play ultra cheesy or use really outdated builds. Most people who say that usually use pretty awful builds which koreans are much better at punishing for some reason.

Also a LOT of koreans are really harassment based or rely on a super tight timing attack doing tons of damage and have horrible multitasking, so survive the first 9 min and they cant macro so you basically win.
One thing that is true is that the koreans have like 20x better micro then foreigners though...

@Kwark: Arent you like A- level ? At that level im sure there is not much difference but I am telling you there is a huge difference around the D+ level.

I usually ban koreans from my games but on occasion I do let them in only to end up regretting it and raging, calling them "faggots" etc(only koreans get me to rage this hard) because their play is just sooooo much better and they just overwhelm me with vastly superior play.

I remember playing one last season or so. It was a ZvP(me zerg). He opens FE and gets corsairs. I opened with some 5 hatch variation and this korean executes perfect zealot timing attacks to keep me unbalanced, only to follow up with his corsairs to start killing my lords. He masses them slowly until he has like 5 or 6 at which point, even with hydras, I still cant stop him from killing my overlords. He just darts in, kill ols, then leave before hydras come. He specifically targeted my 3rd later on and then follows up with a DT and I cant do shit. When I finally repelled it and tried to counter with a sizable Hydra army, this guy already spammed gates and units putting the game at 130 pop(Him) to something like 70 pop(me). That was GG.
This korean was like 7-8 D.

You'd laugh your ass off at a non-korean trying this shit at the D+/C- level. They do it very stupidly. Their corsairs are usually late, and sometimes even when they are early, they mass at their base and send them out after they have like 4 of them. This is far easier to deal with. A korean would send the first one out to be a pain in your ass and he'd never stop them from moving all the while he is spamming gates and adding corsairs 1 by 1 while keeping them very busy. Non-koreans just cant do this at low levels but koreans do this all the time.

I am telling you guys. There is a difference.

I don't understand. This is precisely WHY you would want to play against Koreans and let them in your games. Not to mention they often play pretty standard which is alot more fun that playing against a bunch of foreigner cheeses.
