I usually ban koreans from my games but on occasion I do let them in only to end up regretting it and raging, calling them "faggots" etc(only koreans get me to rage this hard) because their play is just sooooo much better and they just overwhelm me with vastly superior play.
I remember playing one last season or so. It was a ZvP(me zerg). He opens FE and gets corsairs. I opened with some 5 hatch variation and this korean executes perfect zealot timing attacks to keep me unbalanced, only to follow up with his corsairs to start killing my lords. He masses them slowly until he has like 5 or 6 at which point, even with hydras, I still cant stop him from killing my overlords. He just darts in, kill ols, then leave before hydras come. He specifically targeted my 3rd later on and then follows up with a DT and I cant do shit. When I finally repelled it and tried to counter with a sizable Hydra army, this guy already spammed gates and units putting the game at 130 pop(Him) to something like 70 pop(me). That was GG. This korean was like 7-8 D.
You'd laugh your ass off at a non-korean trying this shit at the D+/C- level. They do it very stupidly. Their corsairs are usually late, and sometimes even when they are early, they mass at their base and send them out after they have like 4 of them. This is far easier to deal with. A korean would send the first one out to be a pain in your ass and he'd never stop them from moving all the while he is spamming gates and adding corsairs 1 by 1 while keeping them very busy. Non-koreans just cant do this at low levels but koreans do this all the time.
I am telling you guys. There is a difference. kwark has A- level PvT on longius(read: 10/15 or bulldog. i can never remember which one, i THINK 10/15)

I am telling you guys. There is a difference. Or maybe you can't play to your fullest once you know that your opponent is Korean. While reading your post I just couldn't get rid of that feeling that you give your opponent just too much credit simply because he's from Korea.

Apart from that: Congratulations! :3 This isnt true. I must have played like 2000 1v1 games on ICCUP over the years. Assuming 600 of those were koreans within my skill level (C- high) I can tell you how many ive actually beaten....Ready ? + Show Spoiler +For this reason alone, I'll never ever ever play fish. When Iccup dies im done with BW. Those players weren't in you skill level, then. Your rank was just inflated (or theirs was deflated) by playing in an different timezone. I've lost count of how many times i've reviewed my matchlist to find i've just played vs a 20-30 D+ Korean who executes build orders perfectly with everything on time, have superb timing attacks, and excellent macro. Their armies NEVER stops moving all the while they are keeping their minerals below 500. Play vs a 20-30 D+ non-korean and you see them late on stuff, they make too many cannons and play very passively. Their build orders are clumsy when compared against their korean counterparts and when its time to fight, its not uncommon to see their minerals pass 1000 while their gateway count is low. How can you explain that ? The explanation is that its totally not true and the whole "non-korean rank inflation" thing is a total myth, as a matter of fact, i have much better winrates vs koreans because they play much more standard and more "correct" hence all the timings and game flow goes much more as planned as opposed to foreigners who play ultra cheesy or use really outdated builds. Most people who say that usually use pretty awful builds which koreans are much better at punishing for some reason. Also a LOT of koreans are really harassment based or rely on a super tight timing attack doing tons of damage and have horrible multitasking, so survive the first 9 min and they cant macro so you basically win. One thing that is true is that the koreans have like 20x better micro then foreigners though...
^This. I've played against koreans that have brutally shut down my muta harass and denied my third only to die once swarm hits followed by ultras. :/

On July 31 2011 20:30 KwarK wrote: If D+ koreans are so much better than D+ foreigners then how come the D+ koreans aren't C- or the D+ foreigners aren't D? The ranks are assigned according to results, the only way two groups can have the same rank is to post the same results. Assuming they play each other, barring no hard time zone barriers, a D rank is a D rank. While I did notice some stylistic changes at the B+ level that isn't really likely to be relevant, a D+ is a casual user and their nationality is unlikely to impact how much/little they care about the game if they're at D+.
There is a definite difference due to the time zone difference. During American hours, I'm a solid D+ player. During Korean hours, I tend to go on 8-game losing streaks (even against D Koreans who aren't smurfs), and I sometimes dip back down to low D.
More-skilled Koreans get the same results as less-skilled foreigners because they play during Korean hours when the average skill level is much higher. Your assumption that there is no time zone barrier is simply false, so I don't know why you used it to draw a conclusion.
Edit: Though apparently others disagree with me. I do find that what the earlier poster said is true: Koreans often rely heavily on micro-based harassment. Though I haven't experienced that they can't macro, too...

I think the reason D koreans are "stronger" is because most of them are smurfing / haven't played that many games on iccup...

this 100%
iCCup is viewed as the server for smurfing to them since there are no measures to prevent it like on Brain/Fish
