Last entry before my 9 day mission trip to Nicaragua!!!
With a new season starting, I waited a while before playing my placement so I can get into a bad division. What can I say, I like the top 8 icon.
This actually isn't going to be much of a ladder blog lol. Most of the games I played were pretty easy, probably by virtue of it being a new season. Got up to the top of my division, a pretty easy goal.
In ZvP, I've been trying a hydra bust against forge FE, and also against stargate openings. Because forge FE usually leads into either stargate play or mass gateway play, I figured I could try it. My current incarnation of the build is getting 3 gas at 30 supply after droning hard, and getting lair tech. Keep droning, then get hydra den + range asap. Fourth gas while the lair's going up. Then, I try to time my gas/mineral count by stopping drone production. If I do it well, I get a 2 to 1 mineral to gas ratio with lots of spare supply and pump out a lot of hydras fast.
I haven't had lots of experience with this, but it's working pretty well. I've used it against a fast stargate player, including a +1 armour since I had the evo to defend against the air anyway. Probably should've gotten +1 attack. I've gone up against a 7 gate, which I beat pretty comfortably (mass hydra>mass gateway) and that's about it.
ZvZ, I'm still figuring out my muta build. Went up against someone who expected it, and couldn't do much. I downloaded Slush vs Ret from MLG that I originally stole the build from, and watched it over. I think I'll make a few adjustments to my game and keep trying.
ZvT, volatile as ever. Managed to win once with a nice baneling bomb, even though my mechanics felt heavy that game.
Anyway, I'll probably play a few more games before I go, but after that, more than a week without my comforts. Cya.

Interesting blog. Some questions come to mind.
How many hydras do you get before you attack? Do you rally lings, or hydras, or drone up behind? Are you doing this off 2 base or 3, or taking a 3rd while you do it? Why do you get armor instead of range attack? Do you just go hydra tech standard (as in, before seeing their star) or do you scout with speed ovie/overseer first? Do you open hatch first, speedling expand, or other? Finally, what league are you in?
Just wondering.
It's funny, because in my experience the first games of the new season were harder. Maybe because the more dedicated (and better) players start playing immediately in the new season, or maybe because I was playing in the middle of the day on a weekday, which is when I'm more likely to run into players who play quite a bit. I usually play one game to get placed, then wait a bit, since I have enough trouble using up my bonus pool without playing games without it.
GL on Bnet and in Nicaragua!

I like to get at least 10 hydras before I go but I feel like that's too small a number. In the future, I think I should probably send a scout ling beforehand. If I see gateway units, I'll attack with a larger number than if I see stargate. If I see neither, I'll try to spread creep asap and go. The one time I tried it with overlord creep highway and had to retreat, the overlords died because I didn't get speed. Probably an adjustment I'd have to make.
While teching to lair, I get all the drones i need. I'll be at full or close to full saturation and pumping pure hydras. If I get high on minerals, I'll add some speedlings in. Hydras don't cost much larva so I won't have to worry about having extra for lings.
I'm doing this off of 2 base. 3 base will come too slowly and I can transition into a third base if need be.
Armour instead of range was because I wasn't sure what tech path I was going to go. If I knew it was hydras, I definitely would've gone range.
If I see 1 base stargate, I'm going to be able to scout it early enough to transition into hydras without making too much of a change in my general build. If I see forge FE, then I'l be going for the bust anyway.
I open with my variant of Destiny's 11 pool. I talked about it in depth in my seventh blog.
I'm masters.
I've only use this build for a few games so nothing's set in stone. For all I know, it could just be an average all-in build. However, I'll be working on it after I get back.
Thanks for the comment.
