Remember when you were a boy in the 80s and you said at some point that My Little Pony sucks and Transformers kicked ass? Isn't it weird that the tables have turned when we got really sucky ass Transformers (save for Optimus Prime) yet we got a really damn good My Little Pony series? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS WORLD!!!!!?????
Seriously, at first I never bothered with the MLP animated series, even though I know a lot of buddies who are "bronies". After a couple of fan-made comics based on MLP like Ponycraft and even a fan-made Starcraft 2 trailer of the same name, I kinda thought of giving the series a chance. I must say that it got me at Episode 1 alone.
Like a lot of Hasbro cartoons, I expected the series to be half-assed in terms of story and act like a mere advertisement for it's toys. However, the story in the reboot is simple yet so complex that it got me hooked into the series in general. I could say that it's become a guilty pleasure, but the series is so good that everyone regardless of age or sex can legitimately enjoy. No wonder the series has a large following on the internet.
It's from the same people that made the Powerpuff Girls. What were you expecting. As of today, it's still one of the coolest theme songs in cartoons. About 20% cooler, in fact.
Well, after so much i've seen around about this show, i dedicded to check it out just out of curiosity. It turned out to be crappy kid show awful as pokemon. I am either too old to understand or maybe to young... 25yo.
I was highly skeptical for an extremely long while as well, thinking that it is just the biggest organized troll in history. But then I saw most of the forums I go to getting invaded by this MLP: FiM craze as well. And never before has irony been so undistinguishable from sincere interest, as most posts seemed very honest, coming from even previously thought-to-be rather coldhearted elitists who however seemed to have got somehow converted and joined this fandom.
Ironically, I got converted after seeing this TL blog about the show: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=199658 and had honestly never been so happy before in my entire life, so I have one more thing to thank TL for. It's still irrational and inexplicable how this show manages to have such an extremely positive effect on most people but yeah, in the end the reason doesn't even really matter I guess.

i honestly dont understand what all the fuss is about.
and transformers isnt that bad, if they removed token hot chick from all 3 movies they would actually be alright.
To each his own, man.
Personally the Transformers movies aside from the first one were just giving me migraines. Even without the token chicks, if the movies were directed properly, they would be good.
MLP as I mentioned is simple in every way yet complex in it's own way. Main characters are not as stereotypical as I expected them to be and it's one of the first cartoons that actually made me laugh. It wasn't a sheer product placement series but an actual cartoon series.

to be honest, the first two episodes are probably the worst ones of the show actually (along with ep 8, 17 and 18)
the eps get really amazing from ep 9 onwards, and again I'll say that people who want to give this a try should probably start with ep 13 that I linked in on the first page, as it happens to be probably the most accessible episode and should also be able to hook most people into watching more
ep 9 is also a very good introductory ep I guess (don't worry about not watching the eps in order, only a very few eps are actually linked together storywise)

Got ~half way through and got bored. I was intrigued as the internet doesn't seem to want to stfu about it, but I don't see the appeal. It's no spongebob, that's for sure.

Hah, posts like this make me feel old. I'm only 23 and SpongeBob was years past my cartoon-watching days.

Season 2-3-4 of SpongeBob were the shit man! 22 here.
To be honest, it was during the times of Dexter's Laboratory that Cartoons got good.

There's plenty of cartoons that are actually perfectly entertaining for anyone. I guess the logic is lots of parents are going to be watching WITH their children, and there's no reason why a cartoon can't entertain all. There's a quote from someone that would be relevant..... brb
EDIT: found it!
"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." — C.S. Lewis
Now, let's all go and watch spongebob squarepants!
For the past 3 years, I have been addicted to watching starcraft. I have wasted thousands of hours on the sport, and never thought anything could come close to it. But, in the past 2 days I have watched every episode of MLP -FIM. Many of them twice. Episode 11, 4 times. And spent 0 hours on starcraft. As a warning to all of team liquid: MLP is addicting, watch at your own risk.

If only someone tried to make My Little Nony to fuse the two so we can watch the show while still being addicted to Starcraft.
Now waiting on season 2! If you want to start off, I would suggest watching episode 3 onwards. It starts off cutesy funny and then eventually becomes something too damn awesome for words.

Makes me feel even better about this :D
I love Pinkie Pie, episode 15 sealed the deal for me. Lauren Faust is a goddess
The producers obviously did not go into production meetings to discuss how they will sell the show to ageing men. Where exactly does the concept that the show has a 'deeper' side come from? There are no adult themes. I could understand trying to reach out and find your inner child again through these cartoons, yet, there are other choices out there rather one specifically marketed towards young girls. Indeed, I find the brony culture extremely ... disturbing.
