I would reduce its base damage to 7, its food to 1 and its price to 75/25. I would incorporate an upgrade that would increase the hydralisk speed to 3. etc etc. Another one is the one that IdrA has for Z, "I would remove the Lair requirement on the overlord speed upgrade" or "appropriately nerf colossus but buff stalker damage to replicate the dragoon" or "to make all-ins less effective, make the maps bigger". The issue is that you get builds like the Spanishiwa opening that completely invalidate the argument. Queens, though lacking massive DPS like a Hydralisk, have a large AA range, and are actually very effective 1v1 against any early-mid game air unit. I like this color improvement. The dark blue of the text against the light blue of the TL.net background was a bit irritating to look at.

A truly beautiful interview that goes beyond Day9 the pro-gamer or Day9 the Caster but Day9 the man behind the curtains.
Feature this, put it on reddit front page, make this into a Frost/Nixon style film. Whatever it takes to put it in front of eyeballs. This is the sequel to D9D#100 I been looking for.

This was amazing. I love the high school info. Listening to day9 talk is like eating chocolate cake. I think of myself as an analytical person but his metaphor regarding buckets of information is just spot on, spot on mate. I think he should start a religion based on logic. I could listen to him talk all day, and unlike chocolate cake i would not get fat.

That's not the issue, it's the point. If the spanishiwa build effectively curbs early air play while giving you the economic advantage that zerg needs (and passes the other requirements of a good build, teching and army size) then it is a reasonable answer to my original problem. I have tested the spanishiwa and it seems to be ok, but you don't see the pros picking it up, I would like to know why and the numbers behind its validity.
Edit: Let me clarify. I am using the current balance topics as examples, I do not think it is appropriate to derail your thread with balance whine and that was not my intention. My intention was to talk about the viewpoints that people take and how they have to word their argument to not be shutdown by Seans logical argument.

Damn good job dude, hail day !!
thanks a bunch

He went to rockhurst? That's crazy. I know I'm living in the same town he grew up in but I didn't think it was so close. I could throw a baseball from my house and it would hit rockhurst.
Great interview! Day9 can be long-winded, but always makes sense :p

Anything discussed in the interview is open for discussion here. I'm just not sure what the weakness of the Spanishiwa is at the pro level. I can't think of the thing that kills SpineCrawlers, Queens, and Lings in the early game.

Great interview and a great write-up accompanying it! I'm glad you could get a straight and serious answer from Sean about him playing competitively again

Thanks! While I'd really like to see Sean in something like MLG or NASL, I suppose I wouldn't want to see him losing in these types of tournaments, so I'm glad he's decided to master himself first.

Amazing interview, it seems like in most interviews these days I can guess both the questions and the answers before reading it, but this one completely blew my mind =P. It is a genuine interview, well done.
Also it's always a treat to hear (read) Sean's thoughts.

good job dude
dam i wish sean would just play random on ladder and strean could you imagine all the cheese he'd get

are you guys korean? your apm must be really high day9 paid me to do it *stares at camera* can you smell that? *sniff* smells like fungal growth lol

5/5 fantastic interview. Agree with his points about zerg. Would love to be a zerg player, the race just doesnt do anything for me right now though. Thanks for taking the time to write all this up for us!

Very cool and in-depth interview. I agree particularly with the gap left in the zerg by a lack of zoning units. Hopefully they make some very dramatic changes to how the feel in 1v1 games in HoTS.
Also, I know this might sort of count as changing Seans words or paraphrasing, but some more paragraph splits on the particularly meaty answers would be great 0_o <---- my eyes.

Very nice interview, thanks for putting it out there, good questions and long/detailed answers is the perfect combo, glad to see Sean is seriously considering competitive sc2 in the future (OTH it could mean less dailies but heh)
|
:O, potential for day9 to compete in tournaments...!!!!!!!!!
I don't care how long/far away that time is when he feels like it, the potentials there. :DDDDD
Imo he should probably go under a random smurf name and then surprise everyone with his domination under his phantom status

Any interview with Day[9] just shows how much depth there is to his personality and his thought process--enjoyed reading it throughly!

That was awesome. Also this interview makes me want to ladder for awhile and do ridiculous strategies.

wahoo thanks so much for the interview!
And it's a translated transcript of how I talk. Man I sound rambly :D <3333!
