Today is the day the world ends... and I turn 21!
The common theory among my friends is that I will party so hard that God will become upset and decide to take his children away from the ruckus.
Okay, Judgement Day aside, today has been fairly busy thus far. I woke up earlier than usual to renew my license, because in Washington, your first drivers license expires on your 21st birthday. While I could have renewed it earlier this week, I really wanted a horizontal license, which you have to be 21 to get! So I woke up early this morning and went to the DMV to wait in the cold with about a hundred other poor sods who couldn't go during the weekend hours. I didn't take the sexiest picture in the world, but it'll work, though a few strands of hair that were misbehaving this morning decided to plant themselves right across my forehead. >:[
So... now I'm 21 and legally identified as such, what am I doing? Waiting in the virtual queue for my Blizzcon 2011 ticket, of course! It's a massive blow to my pocket, but after attending the last three in a row, I wouldn't dream of missing it! Plus, they might actually have D3 beta keys (though that's what I said last year...).
I plan on going to the Rock (Wood Fired Pizza) this evening with friends and drinking a bucket (a small sand-bucket filled with Cruzan rum and juice, probably the most potent thing on their drink menu). I already have a designated driver lined up, so I hope to enjoy myself, though I'm not looking to get wasted. Truthfully, college has toned down a lot of the hype about turning 21. Afterall, "the drinking age is freshman." I look forward to brewery tours, beers on tap, and being able to attend all concerts, no matter the venue, more than I look forward to going to bars or buying booze to get smashed alone.
Well, it's about time for me to check out with my Blizzcon ticket! ;D
Oh, yes, and the best present I've gotten today?
A new laptop charger! YAY! INTERWEBS!

Happy birthday mate. I hope you enjoy your partying, but do be careful when using alcohol. I don't mean to spoil your mood but I saw this thread here on TL a few years ago and it's stuck with me since:
+ Show Spoiler +Today has been one of the saddest days of my life.
One of my roommates, not to mention my good friend, Jen, is in the hospital with some very serious injuries. She went out last night downtown to celebrate the 21st birthday of a mutual friend. We were outside the bar in the back smoking, passing a pitcher around, taking pictures, goofing around, all the the usual stuff. It was just like any other summer night in this college town. Jen asked: +ACI-Who wants to climb on the roof?+ACI- No-one wanted to. We kind of laughed it off and didn't take her too seriously, seeing as how the roof is very difficult to get onto (especially when we'd been drinking all night). She crossed the alley, and started climbing up a fire escape on a nearby building.
The next part all happened so fast.
When she was about fifteen or twenty feet up the fire escape, she leaned over and fell suddenly. She hit her head on an air conditioning unit and then landed on the asphalt. While she didn't fall a great distance (I swear I could probably jump to the ground from the height she fell from), she landed awkwardly and hit her head very hard. At very first it was almost funny, but we soon saw her lying there completely still. Upon getting closer, we saw blood gushing out of her mouth onto the sidewalk. We called 911 immediately and they instructed us to turn her on her side, so that the blood could drain from her mouth and so that she wouldn't choke.
When the paramedics arrived, they put her into the ambulance and from the way they were acting and the things they were saying it seemed as if she was going to be OK. Maybe a bad concussion or something like that.
We went to the hospital last night and then went our separate ways home, to sleep. As I went to sleep I figured that everything would be OK, maybe some bruises, a concussion, bump on the head, a night in the hospital. However, this morning at about 6am I received a phone call from a friend. On the phone I learned that her injuries were much more severe than I'd ever imagined. She had broken all of the ribs on her left side, broken her spine in several places, ruptured a major artery in her neck and sustained serious head trauma. Her brain is bleeding and swelling.
We rushed back to the hospital this morning and had a chance to see her. I fear it will be the last time I see her alive. The doctors and her mother explained to us that they only expect her to live another day or two. It was so heartbreaking to see her family there with her, especially her mother, who just sat by the bedside and cried and talked into her ear. Even if she does survive through the next few days, she will never be the same again. She will have severe brain damage and possibly be paralyzed from her spinal injuries.
I just got back home from the hospital, and now I sit looking at all of her things scattered around the house, wondering if they'll ever be used by her again. A pair of shoes, a purse, even last night's dishes. It all just seems so unreal, and so unfair.
It's amazing how life can change in a fraction of a second. One minute you're drunk with your friends outside the bar, the next you're laying on the pavement as blood pours from your mouth.
I can only hope now that she's in a place where she's not suffering. I hope that she isn't freaked out, and that she's just asleep and having a really great dream or something. It's unclear whether she'll be able to survive these injuries, and I just hope that whatever happens, she is not scared or in pain.
Sorry to bring every down with this horrible story, but I felt the need to write this down and share it with someone. Hopefully it might remind someone how precious life is and that a simple slip can change everything.

Happy b-day, have fun and be safe yo. Drinks are nice and all but better to be safe and remember your birthday then hurt and not knowing what happened.

Happy birthday. Not a fan of drinking, but whatever suits you.

Happy birthday - I had a similar response to drinking when I was 21...it's a tad disappointing it comes so late, though it might just be the people i hang out with. :\ Sorry the world didn't end on your birthday, though hopefully you have had too many to drink anyways :D

Happy birthday, and related to the quote, Virginia is so stupid...
Your first license here in VA expires on your 20th Birthday, and then you have to go get a new license at 21.
-_- and the DMVs here take like 4 hours just to get you processed.

Have gone to the last 3 blizzcons.... but 175 per ticket is insane this year =/ just gonna go to MLG anaheim AND NASL finals instead.... shoot for 1/2 the prize of Blizzcon i can compete in mlg anaheim and chill in the players area after losing 2 matches.

The attraction of Blizzcon is that, if you have much of a WoW history, people you know are probably going. I've quit the game, but between hanging out with old friends and a pretty strong SC2 tournament it's hard to pass up.

Still have yet to decide. I'm more concerned about PAX for now.

Well, while it would have been nice if rapture occurred and I could have partied without all of the party-poopers... I think I'm happy the world isn't ending.
Though I drank a "bucket," a healthy dose of cruzan rum and vodka, and a few lagers, I remained fairly sober for it being my 21st!

Yeah, but if they give out D3 beta keys, you could just sells yours for $200 and make a profit!
