I wanted to share my recent experiences with mouse settings and give a special thanks to CecilSunkure and his fantastic guide which finally motivated me to get rid of mouse acceleration after nearly two decades of RTS and general PC gaming.
The results are already better than anticipated!
After disabling acceleration I started off with the recommended windows mouse setting of 6/11 and then the SC2 setting of 51%. Then my mouse just felt way too slow, so I played around with my Logitech DPI settings until I was happy with 1200dpi. Then for whatever reason, I found that side scrolling with the mouse is much slower without mouse acceleration, so I bumped that up to 100% but then backed it down to 85% which I am comfortable with. I know side scrolling is a big no no, but it still has it's occasional uses, so it should be comfortable to use when the need arises.
So now I felt ready and started playing custom games to get used to my new mouse settings. After only 2-3 games, I already felt on par with the skill level and control I was used to with my old mouse settings. After a full day of playing, I feel like I have noticeably improved with my micro, with some specific examples where it was really noticeable.
The most noteworthy was a situation I was in where I 14 hatched and my opponent built a bunker in range of my hatch, only I didn't notice it until the hatch completed. Normally this is an auto-loss situation for me, I honestly don't think I have ever won in this situation, I have to either keep the bunker from finishing or I lose. Only this time I didn't lose, I pulled my drones and I was able to surround and kill his incoming marines buying time for my queen, spine crawler, and 4 lings to finish. I didn't even over-make lings, which I also would normally do even when I was just trying to stop the bunkers from being built, because I was so uncomfortable with my micro abilities.
So I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who is still on the fence about mouse acceleration, just try it, you will be pleased. It doesn't matter how accustomed you are to your old settings, it's just that much better.

tbh i don't mess with mouse settings since i know that if i ver go to lans or such, i won't have the time to redo my mouse settings and such. so for me its easier to have it on what i have now

honestly, any amount of practice will be greater than mouse settings You'll never see someone win because he had mouse acceleration on/off It's always a matter of preference

Doesn't Idra use mouse acceleration?

The thing is your mouse is so much more consistent, you only have to "remember" how far to move it, instead of how fast and how far. There is a reason so many people strongly suggest it, it feels like an advantage to me.

I think its all about preference. Honestly I tried having mouse acceleration off but I just could not get used to it, no matter how much I tried. And the mouse acceleration doesn't even bother me at all. If it ain't broke, no need to fix it, imo.

What do you mean by side scrolling with your mouse here? Do you mean holding in the right button and scrolling or just scrolling by using your mouse the regular way? If the case is the latter, why would this be a no no?

Just scrolling by moving the mouse to the sides of the screen, it's almost always faster to use control groups or click on the mini map, but sometimes I still need to scroll when I am in a battle for example.
