Harvey: My parents got lost driving to the campus, so I actually had to just drive and find it. We were late for tours, but thye hadn't started yet so it was OK. We had a long haired, bearded, sort of disheveled (albeit awesome) CS major. We went around for a bit. Although I regret asking, upon walking into his dorm room there was a tlnet poster, and some guy playing League of Legends. So pretty cool. We toured around, saw (West?) dorm with the sofas in front, and I established that as much as the school is cool and prestigious, I'm not in love enough with the sciences to go there succesfully. Also, I saw a poster taht said "Tastosis: are you aware of the (insert something here)?" In any case, they were having a GSL finals party, and they had put up all sorts of posters (although disturbingly the only ones) MY admissions presentation was also in the room they had the End of Beta launch thing with Day.
UCSB: So after considerable argument, I convinced my parents to let me tour at UCSB. We were planned to do it today (Saturday) but due to ACT testing we didn't. Thank god we didn't because today was Floatopia (youtube it). Our tourguide was a vegetarian, non alcohol consuming, intelligent, indian, premed major. My mom absolutely loved the campus, and said I should go there, right off the bat. o.o Dad really liked it to, although more for the 5 year Masters than anything else. In any case, I really liked the campus, and it does have positives. Firstly, it will get me far away from my parents. Secondly it's fairly strong academically. Lastly, the climate is nice. (Both social and weather based) Conversely though there is a lot of serious partying that goes on there, and I really haven't experienced partying... At all... which leaves me in an interesting conondrum. Of course I want to experience it to a certain degree, but the jump in "hardcoreness" (couldn't think of a good word) is extreme.
It is also nice that it's close to socal, but somewhat isolated.
Right now, although I'm not sure on major, my rankings of campuses would be something like USC>UCLA>UCSB>UCI? (not sure on that fourth slot.)
Any students at any of these schools? Comments on college partying/UCSB? Various insults about me and /or my parents.? Go right ahead.
