Season one $100,000 Championship ladder ends May 2nd. Have some work to do in one month. Best of luck to all those competing, and I hope to see you at Dreamhack.

Dreamhack Summer list of tournaments:

http://www.dreamhack.se/DHS11/programme/esport/

I play neither HoN or LoL. I still play DotA. Played some LoL (like 100 games or something small like that) and went back.

Word, I never played a game of DotA, but from what I've gathered LoL is the same creators who broke off and formed Riot, then League of Legends, so I mean aside from the fact that it's alot of new characters to learn and some new strats to get used to (namely BD being legal) I'd figure youd enjoy LoL just the same. If not for people disliking change lol.

If you ever want to start playing again though, add me under the same name as here. I chill in vent with some people and play nightly.

Yeah I'm actually going to see what dota 2 is all about myself. Bloodline champs was okay in beta, but I stopped playing after release, it's definitely a good title for the genre it just isn't quite my thing. I enjoy the more broad games, items, levels, another objective aside from KdR. But it's obviously a pretty good choice for anyone who was into WoW arena and the like. Add me on LoL man, if you're ever on ill throw you some invites.

Season 1 championship is going to kick so much ass. At WCG last year, CLG just seemed like a level above the rest with SK barely holding grounds, but since the game has been out for sometime now, I expect to see much better matches. Teams have gotten much better and there are more good teams as well.

ya i might, not level 30 or anything though. i think i am level 16, idk i have nto played in a few days. sc2 is a fulltime job for me

i don't really follow the moba game scene that much tbh. i have my hands full with sc2. though from what i can tell HoN is dying as an esport and LoL is growing a lot, even though it has no replays nor has obs spots.

dota though has a big esports scene, which it will likely eexplode when dota2 comes out, i have a feeling though once dota 2 comes out, b oth the LoL and HoN scenes will die out

The biggest changes in my mind are to the early lane dynamic, the farming aspects and buffs.

No denying means ranged heroes lose some of their impact early game. Having to fight to be able to get the denies and not just the last hits meant more simple harassment with auto attacks. It also allowed you to control where the creeps in a lane was located. If you play mid and want it to stay in the middle between the towers, then it will stay there (at least if you are a good player).

If you are farming your "safe" lane then you can keep the creeps from advancing forward with good denying. This meant that ganking took on a different role as well.

Farming is totally different since there isn't so much dedicated support/gank/carry roles any more, they are instead based on who gets to farm and what that person gets for items. Having a defined role known from the opponent team means they focus on different heroes when they try to deny farm.

The last part is the buffs, they are the largest difference. Except for hero specific or item specific gains from jungle creeps there is only the Aegis in DotA. In LoL you have like 3 auras from creeps plus potions with temporary buffs.

These changes when combined with how they defined their heroes lead to mostly shorter games (since it is harder to come back due to auras) and more team vs team compared to ganks and small skirmishes.

That is just my opinion on the matter, it might be incorrect, but it was what I saw of lol in the limited amount of games I played.

I heard HoN should be more to my taste, but it costs money and I already have DotA.

LoL caters to a slightly different demographic. HoN will die without a doubt, DotA will decline even further. LoL will likely decline as well, but not as much as the others. Oh and the DotA scene has pretty much died in USA and Europe (still some life in Europe, like 1/5 of its top activity), only huge in Russia and south-eastern Asia.

The HoN scene will die out because most top teams are already to switch over once DotA2 comes out but LoL is not going anywhere, especially with guys like Matt Marcou on board their crew. Despite their similarities LoL has enough to distinguish itself from HoN/DotA and right now this is just the start for LoL.

yeah for this reason i've not wanted to get into dota or HoN esports since i don't want to get to into it when dota 2 comes out. I will for sure follow dota 2 esports scene when it comes out in fall.

i am playing those games though for when dota 2 comes out i want to be ready to play at a semi-high level anyways

the only thing keeping LoL alive is Riot tbh. almost every tournament that has happend Riot has given the prizepool for, a lot of HoN and Dota oturnaments, their respective companies have little to do with.

LoL has no rep feature or obs features either which limit the esports scene as well

Completely agree. That's something I've been saying from the beginning. They need to come out with those functions asap. Having champs is cool and obviously that's how they make alot of their money, but still adding those features would drastically improve the games overall experience and add for commentary, and open up the community to more than a "he said, she said" speculation which is the point it's at right now.

I do have to say I enjoy SC2 much more than LoL. Not to mention overall the community for SC2 is much more well manored from my experience. LoL being free has contributed to a multitude of epeen wielding preteens who destroy 75% of solo queue games.

I'm going to jump on board and say, DotA 2 is going to be a fresh start for me in the genre and I'm greatly looking forward to it.

I honestly can't understand how LoL manages to get such huge prize pools. Am I elitist in thinking that HoN has much more potential for an extremely high level of competition?

While it's a step in the right direction having to download a 3rd party program really only supports the diehards. It's still no use for the casuals who just want to save a random replay to show a friend their "super cool deny-plank" build or something.

i agree with everything you said here. LoL will fail soon if they don't strike when the iron is hot. they will fail.

looking foward to what the dota2 scene will look like though. it will be a lot bigger than the current dota one is. it'll be like dota + HoN + some LoL

which will be huge. i'm sure it will rival sc2 in size as well

I haven't honestly sat down and really drilled into HoN enough to base an educated opinion on which is better. I watch videos and read up on new champs every so often but from my eyes it looks unrefined. Which could have much to do with no fully understanding the map mechanics and difference in champion mechanics from LoL. Part of me realyl wants to pick it up but I know the first 300 games im going to get flamed for not being on par with the team, and that is a major turn off.
