- New Format and SC2 on the main stage!
It can be rather confusing but honestly it should provide for a more fair and epic
tournament in the end. Open bracket with winners and losers, a championship bracket,
pre championship bracket pool play... MLG really brainstormed up a gem for this new
format I feel and I think it should provide for a really entertaining event. It'll be
fun to watch how this effects competition and how players will navigate their way
through this new Format that we'll see at MLG events this season.
Also SC2 will be on the MAIN STAGE of MLG for the first time. This should be insanely exciting and will really help increase the focus of sc2 at MLG events. No longer will you have to head over to the SC2 section... Front and center baby like it should be!
Format explained: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=196798 - Liquid Domination?
Last year Liquid players won 2 of the 3 MLG events that they played in and almost all of them placed near the top of MLG Dallas. Even good old team manager Nazgul took Idra out in the winners bracket. Liquid really couldn't do much wrong during MLG events last year will this trend continue? Players like Tyler will be looking to break through and come home with an event title. Something that may hurt though is we won't be seeing Jinro or Huk playing in Dallas, both have commitments in Korea currently and are focusing primarily on GSL which they should be considering they both have a chance to do quite well in GSL. - Idra vs Protoss
Take a look at Group A of pool play...
(1) Root.KiWiKaKi(P)
(8) EG.IdrA(Z)
(9) Sockeh(P)
(16) FnaticMSI-Gretorp(T)
Idra gonna have some monster ZvP matchups against both KiwiKaki and Socke. If he finds
a way to win both of those matchups he'll be positioned really nicely in the
championship bracket and a great chance to win the entire event. But if he falters here
his road to the finals will become rather dicey. Friday will be huge for Idra's chances
and will be something to watch for. - EG.Grubby!
Grubby will be attending MLG Dallas. The best Warcraft 3 player of all time
(unquestionably?) hasn't been playing sc2 for very long and the list of major events
he's played in is rather short. He'll be looking to break through in Dallas next
weekend. One thing going against him is it will be his first MLG event so he's coming
in completely unseeded. He'll be navigating the open bracket which will be loaded with
talent. Only time will tell if Grubby has what it takes to break through in Dallas, I
think everyone knows he has the talent and mindset to succeed in the world of RTS
gaming, will it be enough for success in Dallas? - Dark Horse champion?
Hard to imagine but last November going into MLG Dallas hardly anyone expected Jinro to
do so well let alone basically dominate the entire event. MLG Dallas was really Jinros
opening statement in the sc2 scene and was the catalyst when he seemed to "click" and
start preforming as the best foreign terran player in the world. Will we have a story
like this in this seasons opening event in Dallas? It's possible. There are going to be
dozens of really talented players crashing through the open bracket, will any of them
go far in championship play? Only time will tell. - Tylers's Shirt Finally?!
Some of you may remember Tyler lost a bet to Incontrol before the MLG DC event of last
year, incontrol ordered a shirt that Tyler would have to wear at MLG, sadly the shirt
was backordered and didn't arrive in time for MLG DC OR MLG Dallas. Everything is good
to go now though and the question on everyone's mind is going to be what Tyler walks
onto the main stage wearing on Friday... He'll have a televised game right off the bat
in pool play on Friday so we won't have to wait long. :p

More will be added to this as things like the full player list is announced on Monday or Tuesday.
What will you be watching for?!
