To be honest, my life has been very different since I got back from China at the end of August, and it has been non stop work since I stepped off the plane it feels like. More recently however, Ive taken an interest in doing more quality eSports content, something Ive been neglecting over the past few months. That is about to change.
A couple months ago, after a rather lengthy conversation with Fnatics new editor in chief, I decided to embark on a quest of sorts. What sort of nerdy quest might this be? Well….I decided to contact disputably the worlds most famous gamer (ill let you fantasize about who that might be, and keep it as my little secret for the time being ; ))
I have had contact with him before, and asked if I could do a rather lengthy and in depth series feature on him (article/interview mixed piece, something I have never done before). It took me a while to get a hold of him, but he agreed and I began writing questions. About 30+ questions later, my first batch for the first section of the series was complete, and I emailed it off. A couple weeks later, the answers arrived in my inbox and I began to develop my 2nd set of questions for the piece. 25 questions or so later, and I sent that off. Sadly the person in question is so busy, I haven’t been able to follow up recently, and to be honest so have I. Good for me (and you) the questions are not time sensitive, so me talking about this wont ruin anything ; )
Now why I am I busy? A couple reasons, one of which is eSports, the other is school. Ill keep going with the same theme though and talk about the eSports stuff. After having confirmed my new exciting piece of work…I went out in search of more, more interviews, more features and more topics for articles. Topics for articles are a lot harder to come by than you might think. If you want a truly good piece, that gets more than a couple thousand hits, you need to keep it new, relevant and have a sort of….edge to it. Back a few months ago, I couldn’t come up with much, so I used ones I had been thinking of for a while.
Today however, it seems every day you can find a new and exciting piece of content just laying around the various forums and news websites, especially concerning Starcraft 2. For instance, my article that goes up tomorrow: “Did Starcraft 2 force eSports to grow too quickly?” is something that I had been thinking of for the past few weeks. I hope you enjoy it : )
Aside from that, I will spoil the surprise on a few other features I am working on, and that have been confirmed. The first being an interview with a console superstar (yes I know, Im not the biggest console fanboy out there, but Jack Baxter is pretty badass…so Im hoping this standard 20 question feature piece shows some sparks.
I also contacted Chris Loranger, better known as HuK to anyone who knows anything about Starcraft 2. For those of you who don’t know who Huk is, check out my interview on the fnatic.com website, I interviewed him one year ago. That “one year” is also what this feature is about, “One year with Huk” so I am really excited for that, I need to develop questions for it tomorrow.
On top of those two features and the article, my review of the 7H headset by SteelSeries is going to come out soon. I hope SteelSeries takes into consideration my suggestions at the end, as I feel that would make for an almost perfect headset by them :#
I have another interview planned, but..its not totally 100%, Ill have more information on what its focus is, and who its with, but it should be amazing for any Starcraft 2 fan : )
And Ill touch briefly on school….school is inherently boring, my classes are long and boring, my tests are boring, my projects are old (considering Im in BUAD, you think it would be 2011 examples or something but NO..its OLD..we don’t even talk about or use the internet …sigh;
Also, I am doing a marketing competition…and I started it on Thursday…and my entry is due in 2 weeks (less than that now) ..most kids across Canada began in mid February…but I had to start late…we will see how the next 2 weeks go!
This is going to be a daily blog (not here on TL as that would get annoying Im sure...) but Ill post esports stuff when I get to it.. I hope you enjoy. If you wanna check out old entries from the summer or actually wanna read it on a regular basis you can find it here.
