MKP's style is so boring it's laughable. Effective.. yes. Fun to watch.. not so much. Who in the heck wants to watch someone mass a single t1 unit mixed with some scv's or the occasional siege tank?

I'm certain MKP has a great amount of skill. However, his style just comes across as cheesy.

Personally I like watching Jinro play. He can mix it up, adapt, and always provides an entertaining match. He actually makes a variety of units. His show match with Idra was the opposite of a MKP match up. Action packed and varied.

Again, this is not ment to diss MKP's skill. As I stated I'm certain he is very very talented. I just don't think his play style offers high entertainment value.

MKP has shown in numerous games that he can use other units and still win. He's just the most dangerous with marines.

I personally like his style. He does some stuff that other don't do and makes risky and fantastic decisions.
Basically it feels like he is a chess player most renowned for his queen play and makes risky sacrifices often.

It's hard to argue that the marine isn't the cornerstone of MKP's strategy, and again nothing wrong with that.. just not fun to watch imo.

Interesting perspective. I like the queen analogy.

I can't even remember the last time he pulled SCV's for an all-in attack... season 2 finals against NesTea?

Watch the MarineKing games vs NaDa and you'll realise how wrong your perception is!

MKP is one of my favorite players, he basically invented marine splitting against banelings (or made it widely popular) in his match against Kyrix, he has some long term games where he is constantly attacking and dropping, and in season 4 he became famous for counterattacking and creating basetrading situations which led to some epic games (MKP vs Nada).

He may do 2 rax and scv allins from time to time, but that just makes him an interesting player because he switches things up. Everyone gets excited when a famous Zerg 6 pools, why shouldn't you when someone scv allins?

I could care less how he plays, really, but it is really boring to watch him when he does something like a 2 rax all in w/ SCVs or just 2-Rax pressure. I tend to just wait for the VODs and skip over half the games most of the time.

And speaking of boring crap, how about the Code S RO4? Every game was under 15 minutes with one exception IIRC. So damn boring. I get that Koreans are great at this game and everything, but they really need to stop abusing 1-base timing attacks or early game mechanics. It is so damn boring to watch. I think out of all those games, only 2 were interesting and not even that great.

That's not really fair to attribute it to Koreans in general. One of the series was PVP which is guaranteed to be pretty quick and pretty boring, one had Anypro in it who has improved but still isn't that great, weird that he made it through.

the games where he only makes marines are some of the most entertaining, as long as it's not in the form of the svc all in. His micro really is godly.

Curious: How many games can we count where he SCV all-inned? The only ones that come to mind for me are the ones from the GSL2 finals. I think there might've been a close positions LT game in GSL3 but I can't even think of what race his opponent was.

He had one in the up/down matches recently.

Actually I really disagree. I definitely enjoy Jinro's play more, but really respect the way MKP plays. He knows the mobility of marines and has the skill to take on mass mech with mass bio. And base trades are always exciting.

Regarding yesterday's matches. Honestly I actually like that it was a marine/ scv stomp. MKP is no BitByBitPrime who scv all-ins every game. I would've actually been more disappointed with MKP if it were an hour long, just barely hanging on game. MKP belongs in Code S, so it was satisfying seeing him crush nerds and take names. (Not that Leenock is really that bad- he's really unlucky.)

To me it's it just solidified MKP's position in Code S and that dropping down to the Code A/S was a fluke.

No different than Flash's match the other day vs Food5 (some recently promoted B-teamer.) Flash stomped him hard with a bunker rush and moved on. Is Flash some how a boring player? He's the ultimate weapon! But he stomped a noob and showed who's boss.

Honestly, I think people are too hung up on Idra's all or nothing macro mentality. As well as this endless quest to define cheese. There's a place for all sort of play styles in a variety of contexts depending on how the opportunities present themselves and what the mental state of players are. I suspect the rush was as much a calculated move based on how down Leenock was psychologically after losing the first game. (Adding the extra strain when MKP was completely confident in his own competence.)

Point is, MKP knows how to play large macro play, but an Up/Down match-up was no time to be flashy, but a time to stomp down hard and move on.

Admittedly this season he showed a really solid mech play. Game 1 vs Leenock? He was at his base, with two-three tanks, several hellions and just enough marines and nothing could move him out of there. Actually did you see his SimCity? It was glorious! Anyway, he parked in front of his base and no amount of banelings, lings or mutas could move him out of there.

Then again I am biased against MK and the player himself seems to split the community, so...

I agree. MKP did a 5 factory push or something like that. Pretty much just pure mech, and it was absolutely beautiful. The abundance of tanks, thors, and hellions and the absolute perfection of the macro made me think it was Flash himself playing SC2, not MKP. Yet, it was indeed the king of marines in the playing booth, and it really made me appreciate him better as a top class player.

Seriously, GO WATCH THAT GAME. You'll never see Foxer the same way again.
