Well basically long story short, im a silver/gold zerg on sea/na and I have hit a wall. I'm just not sure about my builds and timings any more. So I am here to ask for help regarding my starcraft, Im looking for something like the noob mentoring program but since I play mainly on the sea server its a lot harder to find ppl to help (seriously 6 games 1v1 on the na...with 5 wins ).

So will anyone on any of these 2 servers help me improve my play?

timings may be an issue but usually i am home from uni around 12 AEST which is in time to watch most of the american streams.

If you are willing to pay, I would recoment Incontrol or someone like that.... If I want to improve, both in SC2 and SC1, I did just watch fuck tons of streams (only good people) and did the same small things, which helped me to improve SICKLY fast actually....

Just so you know, if you have trouble meeting up with a partner or two, and want the help/ analysis of more TLers, feel free to make a thread with a few replays of your games, where you analyze your own games first (and explain what you think you did wrong or have trouble with) and then we can take a look at them on our own time

Unfortunately, I won't be able to play privately with you as I'm busy with classwork and other things, but I wish you the best of luck

Chances are, if you're a silver/gold player, you need to work on basic mechanics and macro.

Easiest way to get better is to watch pro reps and copy them.

Some people will say this is a poor way to learn, but they are wrong.

Forums, replays, VODs, playing ladder, join a team, experimenting, all good ways to improve.

Don't pay for coaching, that's LOL.

I don't play sc2, but I'm pretty sure it's too early for you to even get into "timings and build orders" at that skill level. Most likely your fundamentals are lacking - macro, micro, efficient hotkey usage, etc.

You should work on that first. You can't play football if you can't run. You can't play RTS, if you're bad at macro e.g.

Improve your mechanics.
Strategies in silver/gold are just to volatile to really rely on the strategy advice you get from top player streams or the strat forum here.
Build solid macro and then execute mutaling to learn muta and ling micro. If you are confident that you can finish games with 3 queens and little energy left on them without stocking a huge amount of larva, then you can go read the strategy forum to see how to counter some nasty pushes.

Really. Up to medium plat, you won't find a guy who can 4gate every game perfectly, so you should be fine even against tactics that are designed to counter mutaling.

Unfortunally, sc2 is much about mechanics ... nothing you can do about it.

When ever I hear the words "improve your macro" i feel like hiting my head against a brick wall, of course thats the issue but wtf seriously If I don't know where im going wrong how can i improve.

As for watching pro streams/replays/day9 etc, already do that and yes I have learnt a lot through this but I just can't put it into practice as my practice partners are way way worse than we. Believe me when i say there is a noticable differnce between an average bronze and an active silve/gold player.

Yes I suppose I will go though my most curernt replays tomorrow sometime and determine where my faults are (suprisingly I find this quite easy, but its just painful to pick out your own faults as im sure you guys know )

This is why we would need to see replays >.> We can't help you analyze your games if we don't know how you play, and 50 people on TL aren't going to have time to be your practice partners (yet 50 people could watch your replay).

1. Do you ever miss a larvae inject timing? Work on that.
2. Does your money ever go over 500? Work on that.
3. Do you ever get supply blocked? Work on that.

That's basic macro for Zerg silver/gold players

I will conceed that its the overlords thats the real killer but minerals are only as a result of being blocked, suprisingly inject are not so bad for my level of play...mostly (some games im so shit it aint funny).

Yeah sry i thought I did reply regarding the reply statement above (my bad) and yes i compeltely agree with you

If you're committed to improving then you need to be grinding out as many games as possible. Assuming that you're vLocBordZ then your 270 games is far from enough to develop a strong foundation from which to improve from. You need to be playing as much as possible and setting yourself set amounts of games which you will hit each week. Currently I find 70 to be a good number to push for per week. If you had 2000 games under your belt and were remaining at this level, then there'd by something to talk about, but at the moment you're really just not placing enough effort into the game to make any substantial improvement.

Addressing the whole "improve your macro" comment, there's really only two things you should have to worry about:

- Keeping your money low
- Getting as many drones as possible

When you watch streams or replays, see how and when pros are droning and how many drones they have at a certain point. Try and replicate this if possible. Linked to this is scouting which is essential to safe droning.

Keeping your money low is reasonably obvious, but there are issues such as when to put down a macro hatch and consistent overlord creation that may plague lower level players.

This is obviously the tip of the iceberg, but the fact is that there's not much anyone could help you with that you shouldn't be able to figure out yourself. When you have free moments, just try and consider the purely theoretical side of Starcraft and don't worry about refined ideas such as timings. There are many things that you need to address before those. Just think about the relationships and implications of things such as unit creation, army creation, expansions, aggression and scouting. Then analyse and apply those thoughts to when you play or watch a stream/replay.

I see a lot of Master or even Pro players that could work on those 3 points.

But it's not only that... it's a lot more.
Like good scouting and knowing what conclusions to draw from what to see.
Having a feeling with how many drones you can get away with before making your army and when to expand.

It all comes down to practice and getting to know the game in the process.
It also helps a lot to get to know the other 2 races

Without a reply or someone watching over your shoulder it's hard to give advice though
I has a flavor

Dali thank you for your reply and yes that is me, I found it very useful as it highlight what i was to blind to realise with other peoples replys.

Basically I dont play enough and as such make a lot of mistakes that i dont think i make when im laddering reguarly. So i went through and analysed my play. Basically I define my style as a reactive macro style who waits till the opportune moment to strike. The problem was (after reviewing my losses) I was macroing shit as (ROFL) by which i mean i was just not making enough drones.

So after realising this and determining what and where i went wrong I played a ladder game, just 1 at this stage where i beat a terran. Dryspell over.

**I also got promoted to gold on this occasion in the sea server
