SC2 ESPORTS is a global phenomenon but its a huge mess, which is natural and also interesting because so many new shifts are happening so fast at the moment.

But I feel that SC2 progaming needs some sort of come together on a global scale so we can determine the success or strength of teams and indidual players more easily.

If there was some sort of point system (for teams and players) then it would be much easyer for the successfull ones to enter tournaments like the GSL, ESL and all the other big ones outthere such as huge lans (MLG, DH, IEM) etc.

The next level of coorporation and organisation would be the next step into a long term ESPORTS experience and professionalism (= more/steady moneyflow) IMO.

If you want SC2 to succeed as an E-Sport in any way you need blizzard to give up control of the E-Sports aspect of it to the community.

the fact that he can shut him down with two words makes his point pretty clear. I think it was needed.

A post mentioning BW in a thread called "SC2 globalisation" shuts itself down.
I think esports is pretty nice.

This is not gonna happen.

Bobby Kotick fat greedy eyes saw what BW became in Korea, I don't think Activision is willing to give up that much.

I am sorry to say this but I don't think esports will ever succeed like you propose it too. Obviously, I would love it if it did, but games just don't last long enough for systems like you described to be developed. Take BW. It is the most successful esports game but as soon as a replacement came out for it, much of its fanbase left. If it happened to BW, it will happen to ANY game.

I'am not sure what you are referring to but I think we allready have more than enough very good progaming content. I just stated what I think would be healthy for the scene and support its longterm success. maybe you did read something into it?

No when you said "long term success", thats what Im talking about. I don't think a game can have long term success as an esport. I would love it if forty years from now were all old men watching Starcraft because I want it to be like a real sport but I just can't see that happening.

You can't trust a big corporation not to try and make as much profit as they can from SC2 and everything that comes with it. ToS on the Map Editor is such an obvious proof of it. Nobody saw DotA coming, Activision/Blizz will make sure that if something like DotA does happen again, that they stand to profit from it first and foremost.

Kespa negotiations aside, I feel like SC2 can only get more and more commercialized as time goes on. I'm hoping that that will not be a bad thing but I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be. (bad for the development of esports, might slow it down at the very least).

zerg, zerg everywhere.

so ehm... its not good to have a global sc2 point system because the companies will make money of custom maps and because there will be new games in the future???

Threads get hijacked a lot when they involve esports, don't worry too much about it. Some people need a release for their problems, I guess.

And yeah, it would be pretty huge. I think at this point we're waiting for the EG announcement/MLG lol.

so your saying that the prize money table is an accurate measurement?

Very interesting. Actually I really like your suggestion because additional dollars/euros/etc attract more talent so the competition also gets harder, which means the players/teams that accumulate more prizemoney do win either more tournaments or more 'important' ones.

How exactly does saying SC:BW shut down a thread on globalization of SC?

SC2 has already far surpassed BW on a global scale like it or not.

What do you mean? More people bought and played SC:BW than SC2 so I don't see how SC2 has surpassed BW.

This is about globally, korea had about 1/2 the BW sales. Which leaves about 4-5M outside Korea. Clearly, more people globally (outside korea) have bought the SC2. In fact 3M in the first month.

Then again, look at the numbers of major tournaments and events outside of korea. Again SC2 far surpasses BW.
