This guy gets way too much hate. When I first saw him play near the beginning of GSL Season 2, I was like "Who the hell is this guy? Playing under Boxer's ID? Man, what a douche, who plays under ****ing BOXER's ID?".
GSL Season 2
And ultimately, I didn't think he was anything special. Especially after his rather sloppy game against BabyWerra. And then he eliminated Fruitdealer. WHAT? This poser was able to take out FRUITDEALER? Season 1 Champion? Must have been a fluke. I mean HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN? Was probably the biggest upset in the GSL up to that point. He'll surely get beat by SANGHO right? Yeah, your TvZ might be good Foxer, but there ain't no way you'll eliminate someone who was an active Brood War player before coming to SC2.
Yeah, he beat Sangho too. So this guy's advancing in what's pretty much the bracket from hell. So maybe he has potential.
And then I saw the game against Kyrix. And I'm sure a lot of us were going "HOLY ****ING CRAP" at those games. He definitely established himself someone who was VERY VERY entertaining to watch from the Kyrix games. And from then on, he definitely shattered my expectations of him and made me think that he could be a legitimate top player. But surely he wasn't any match for Rainbow.
But then he showed that his TvT was actually pretty strong too by convincingly beating the OTHER GSL Finalist Rainbow 4-1. Amazingly, I think this was the first game that he showed us that mass Infantry is actually viable in TvT, something that was almost unheard of prior.
And then he made it to the finals. Even though he lost, he managed to take NesTea to the Ace match. Relatively impressive considering NesTea actually HADN'T LOST A SINGLE GAME up to that point in the tournament.
GSL Season 3
With Season 3, he changed his name to MarineKing. And proved just why he was worthy of the title. He continued to show just how strong his TvZ was, eliminating Monster and Leenock. He then continued what appears to be his tradition of losing to the Winner of the Tournament, losing to MC in the Round of 8, who later went on to become the Season 3 Champion (so would that make him the Yamcha of the GSL?).
GSL Code S Season 1
With Code S Season 1, he went on to continue proving that he is, indeed, one of top Terrans in the world. On top of being one of the most entertaining players in the world (him and Jinro always put on amazing matches). After losing to Clide (THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD AT ANYTHING EVER), and an easy victory over LegalMind, he also went on to show that his TvT was definitely on par with his TvZ, scoring victories against Rainbow and TeamLiquid's own Jinro. And I'm sure none of us will forget his CRAZY games against Nada, of which games 1 and 3 are among the most entertaining games the GSL has produced.
With his games against Nada and with his latest win in the Semifinals, again against Jinro, he's also gone on to show that not only can he viably use Infantry in TvT, not only can he put out the most entertaining games ever, not only does he have some of THE BEST micro in the world, but also that he has an incredible understanding of the game and is incredibly good at split-second decision making.
With the Finals coming up, he's either going to win it all or continue his streak of losing to the champion (thus, officially making him Yamcha). And the haters are gonna hate, but I'm rooting for MKP to win this.
MarineKingPrime, or MKP as he's now commonly called, also gets A LOT of hate. He probably gets more hate than any other Starcraft 2 player. Well, short of his teammate BitByBit. And most of the complaints are rather unfounded.
"HE CHEESES" Sure, if you call fast expanding in most of your games cheesing.
"ALL HE DOES IS ALL-INS" Sure he helped POPULARIZE the Marine/SCV all-in, but since then most of his games have been fast-expanding Macro games. And most of his All-In plays he's done since have been strategically the best moves to make in the situation. Just look at his series against Nada. He knew he was better off in the Base Trade situation in games 1 and 3, so logically, it was the best thing to counterattack rather than waste time running back to defend. And despite Game 2 being a legitimate cheese Marine/SCV all-in, as Tasteless and Artosis said, it was an incredibly calculated risk based on going against Nada's expectations and mental state at the time. i.e. a mind game.
"HE ONLY MAKES MARINES/IS ONE-DIMENSIONAL" Blind hatred complaint, since MarineKing is rather diverse in his play, and makes units based on how well they fit the situation.
I don't know about you guys, but I for one am a big MarineKing fan. Just don't have the time to go out and search for links to his stuff like the Idra (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=138967) and Jinro (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=173648) fanclub topics have. And format it so that the topics look nice. Just writing stuff off the top of my head like this is easy for me though, which is why it is so long.
So, anyone else want to make a MarineKing fanclub?
