Hey people!
Sorry for the terribly played match i showed you yesterday but i only played that one match and i really felt like i should upload at least something :/

I checked the comments this morning and i gotta say wow... Im not as bad as i was in yesterdays game but i was not this good before i read the comments. Having "5s*something*" in mind really helped get my "average unspent resources" down by a good 2-300 or so and Vansetsus post gave me the chills! It was such a long post full of my flaws and tips and it just got me so pumped up like "alriiiiight, lets imp-fkin-rove!" and went onto BNet and played my ass off! :D

Thank you Vansetsu and undercover lover for the tips and feedback and even though im still a noob, probably not even worthy my spot in silver yet, i think you will notice improvement :D

On topic!
I got into THIS match and it really made my brain stop.
I still dont wanna ladder since i feel that even if i get crushed by diamond players in the custom games, i can still practice my macro at least. Even though i got pitted against a platinum player, in my eyes (unexperienced as they might be) i felt it was still pretty even. My macro was way better than last game (as i said, i was a little shaky that time) but I made a few mistakes here and there, for example sending my hydras in under the banshees way too early since i thought the overseer was way faster than it actually was, failing to spread creep and biggest mistake of all... attacking. Now ive been wondering about that attack for some time now and there is one really simple thing i cant figure out:

Why did my army die?!
I realize i failed, sending in the hydras first and then the lings. I remembered watching a game where Day9 said it was super important to send ultralisks in first and then zerglings since lings are primarily damage dealers opposed to some form of tanks for other units. This made me send hydras first and then i checked their relative dps and saw (NOT to my surprise) that hydras dealt more damage. But even as i did this and even as i did not have the range upgrade and his army was 1/1 as opposed to my 0/0 he lost nothing!!! Is it really so that those things i just pointed out made that huge of a difference so that he killed an almost equal food army with no casualties? It just feels wrong to me

Three other questions i have about this match are:
  • Was there any other way to know he was going banshee than to suicide an overlord and see tech lab starports?
  • I know some people say hydras shouldnt be used off of creep and as i am still bad at remembering to spread creep, can i still use them or should i try to avoid them?
  • I realized later than my drone count was a little low. On a scale of 1-10, how bad was it?
    (higher number meaning less bad)

I am unsure as of where and how i should upload the replay packs talked about in the comments of the first post so thats why theres only one game today as well.

I guess thats all really. I promise ill train more! :D

Untill next time

It should be intuitive to you why you would send in ranged attackers after melee attackers. I don't think you need to take heed of which one does more damage.

Nope. This is one of the hallmarks of a top player, the presence of mind to recognize WHEN that overlord needs to be suicided for that specific tech path, and the courage to sacrifice that guy every time you smell banshees. Get used to it! You'll learn to take clues from what you can see to piece together a list of possibilities, and then you'll get comfortable sacrificing an overlord to check on those possibilities. It's a long, involved learning process. During the first 10 minutes you need to think real hard about what your opponent is doing, and if you're wrong, watch the replay and look for clues you coulda noticed.

Hydras are just really slow. On creep, they're tremendously effective. Keep practicing your creep spread! It's very very important. Beyond that, feel free to make Hydras, just realize that they need meat shields in front of them and positioning is key. Getting yourself caught off guard with slow units is much worse than if your army is mutas and zerglings!

Also, the relationship between units changes as you mould them into different compositions. Yes, there are situations where your zerglings are the primary damage dealers, but when you have Hydras, the roles are reversed. Zerglings are suddenly the expendable meat shields and the hydras are the scary damage-dealers you protect with your life. In general, things are never so cut-and-dry in games like StarCraft.

i didn't look, but if you don't have like 20+ drones at each base, it's low!

Glad we helped you! About this game, you were behind in workers pretty much the whole game partially because you overproduced lings at some point. Against terran you should try to always be ahead in economy, but it's hard and you will learn it with practise.

The real things you could've done to win that game was pulling back your workers and hydras when the banshees hit and waited for the overseer, and in the end battle you lost because you attacked at the worst possible place. Only a couple of your hydras were attacking at a time whilst the others were just lining up for the slaughter. A good rule of thumb is to try to engage at as wide areas as possible and in such order that the melee units go first, then roaches, then hydras etc so all your units are attacking at the same time. So having your hydralisks waiting in a big arc for those marauders and marines would have meant the world of difference. Also about your unit mix, it's often good to have roaches to tank for your hydras instead of lings, or fight with mainly muta/ling/baneling -composition which is a bit harder to pull off effectively.

And about seeing those banshees, your first scout could've checked how many gases he had before dying. 2 means teching aka banshees or fast tanks possibly with drops. And a bunker on the ramp is also a giveaway if your opponent is playing correctly, most of the time when you see it you can just assume that banshees will come.

All in all this game was still way better than the previous game, good work ^^
