No one has mentioned that winning is also a mentality and high value of western culture. As a broad generalization, Asian cultures value the journey, western cultures value the result. I'm an American and my country fought the world's most powerful army (at the time) and won independence. It sets a precedent for a culture and mentality that still exists today.

I remember when I played a lot of street fighter and watched videos of it, Japanese players would say that American play style is to win by severely punishing mistakes. They'd say that Japanese play style is based on technical expertise and mechanics. IdrA said in an interview with Artosis that the difference between north american and korean ladder was that koreans wanted to get better while americans just wanted to win.

TL;DR: cheese happens because some people only value winning. It's not unique to starcraft. Happens in every game online. Also agreeing with custom games with practice partners. as with all online games, its better to play with friends. They'll only cheese you once in a while to keep you on your toes.

I suppose I've noticed this. A lot of people play just to win, and do the same thing over and over. Idk, I just don't like playing like that. I'd rather have a 20+minute game where I lose than a 5 minute game where I lose. x_X

Scout your base and the area around it if versing P or T. For Zerg, well forge wall in! OR cheese = P

I assumed this much was obvious, and I do do that already. Thanks though?

If someone is cheesing you in bronze, you should play more custom games, rather than ladder. Get better with custom games, then suddenly come back to ladder roflstomp noobs and win.

1) Learn to defend against cheese.

2) Learn to have better macro.

3) Try and eradicate mistakes.

4) watch tons of pro games to learn from them. ( Don't just listen to commentary like i do now.)

5) HAVE FUN!

GL with your, epic struggle out of bronze league. Never been down there... Don't ever want to be.

EVERYONE who plays custom games is like, diamond. I lost quite a few last night cause of that ~_~
Out of the 5 games I played, 4 were 1v1 which I lost against diamond players, and 1 was a 2v2 on Lost Temple, which my team won cause I tried to canon rush the zerg, but was like "oh shi- creep durrrr" so I had canons had his ramp down and kept pushing in.
Then I gave up and took my void ray and like 4 zealots and crushed him .*_* my teammate went mass cloaked banshees. xD!
Those guys were in bronze though ;3; </3

I guess if you want to share pain I'll give in as well...

I'm a gold zerg, and the cheese is rather strong. Roughly half my games are against cheese and the more I see them, the better I can defend them. Just keep trying new things, focus on overcoming the all-or-nothing strategy, and force a long game you know you can win.

I'll also mention that when I play a macro game I have like, a 95% win ratio. Just like me you'll have to suck it up, learn from it, and forge your own counter strategies.

Playing with practice partners helps a lot. I assume you probably have friends who also play SC2. Practicing against them is much more flexible than practicing on custom games or the ladder.

This is true, but like I said, I really, really dislike playing against my friends.
I throw a hissy fit when I lose and refuse to speak to them, even if we're just playing around.
I'm a bad loser p_q
