So im going thru older great games currently. cant play sc2 since my mouse broke(currently have a noname shit symmetric mouse that hurts my hand) and i didnt want to come back till chat channels anyways.

So i raced thru seiken densetsu 3 which was fun(nightblade+bishop+granddivina = ezmode).
im close to finishing planescape torment which is even better then i remembered.

since im kinda hooked on the d&d rpg style again thx to ps:t im about to install NWN2 .

So now i need some help with character build. i dont know anything about NWN classes, ruleset, special stuff and whatever.

what i want:
- a caster . always played a mage first/mainly in the older games. just love the more strategic combat and having tons of options.
- decent for campaign. so it shouldnt totally suck in the first 15 levels(i dont mind challening parts tho), and have good (all?) speech options . dunno how it works in NWN2 but i really liked talking people down in PS:T with high INT/WIS.
- strong lategame. always the goal in a RPG

dunno if maybe even pure wizard or sorcerer are viable for that. i just got majorly confused seeing tons of specialized mix builds when i googled for advice.

so if you *know* nwn2, share your wisdom ~

life of lively to live to life of full life thx to shield battery

If you don't want anything too complicated play a pure Sorceror. Their Charisma is what governs the effectiveness of their spells, and is probably the only attribute you will increase on level ups. Builds in NWN2 come down to how you allocate your initial attribute points, your feats, and what skills you increase, in that order. For attributes you basically choose from starting with 17 or 18 charisma, DEX and CON as high as you can get them without spending multiple points on them (14 I think), and everything else at 10 or 8 (don't go below 10 WIS or you'll get owned by mind affecting spells and the like.) Personally I prefer starting with 17 Charisma and 14 Intelligence because I like the extra skill points on level up. For speech focused characters both Mages and Sorcerors make decent ones. Mages have high INT, and can thus burn a lot of skill points on the speech skills, Sorcerors have high charisma, and thus are naturally better at them. Both will be obscenely powerful late game. Make sure to make use of the metamagic. Maybe even adding in a few levels of Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep if you have the expansion. Only enough to get the improved empower and maybe improved maximize feats though, no need to take all 10 levels.

Also watch out for bugs and make sure the game is patched. NWN2 is a really underrated single player experience IF you can get through all the show stopping bugs it shipped with. I don't remember too much about any particularly bad bugs, but I think they're all manageable in the latest patch.

Go with Aasimar if you don't mind the slower leveling. The extra charisma is obviously very good for a Sorceror and the Wisdom frees up more points for Con/Dex.

In this case the Sorceror would be a better choice than a Wizard. I feel it has more oomph in the later levels, and the high charisma will help with the conversation aspects.

I haven't actually finished NWN2, only played it for a few hours, but from NWN experience the arcane spellcasters will rape face at higher levels, even without Time Stop

Druid all the way. They get crazy good caster spells, awesome defensive spells, and can still wear a little armor. Druids remind me of Dresden from Jim Butchers books if you have read them. There is no fight you can't win if you are prepared for it, of course unprepared you better run as fast as you can!

I recommend a dwarf cleric. You can use maces, plate mail and shields. Pick domains with defensive spells, such as the protection or healing ones. You should max WIZ, dump CHA and INT and get whatever spread between STR and CON you like. I like more CON. You can dump DEX too, but your AC will suffer. I keep it at 10.

You will get 2 skill points per level. You can take persuade and still make a lot of checks despite your CHA penalty.

Memorise buff spells with long durations and cast them on your party after every rest. Later on, you will have lots of spell slots. You can save these for healing, or you can use them on shortduration selfbuffs, which can make you or your allies very powerful in melee.

I like this style because it is robust, yet you can choose to sacrifice some of its constitution in favor of offensive ability.

I think the majority of power builds are melee based.

Also if you care about storyline, remember that the first expansion, MotB, actually has a pretty good one. The OC is quite trite, the 2nd expansion has virtually none, and I've not been compelled to play the 3rd.

It's not a caster but IIRC my build in NWN2 was a human Bard 1/ Fighter 4/ Dragon Disc 10/ Frenzied Berserker 5. I don't remember the exact list of skills and feats i used, but i know he used greatswords and kicked an amazing amount of ass.

Bard and DD delayed his BAB advancement a bit, but the STR bonus's compensated. He had enough of each social skill to get through all the social encounters, enough in spellcraft for the bonus's to saving throws, good HP, good saves, and no major weaknesses.

EDIT - Also, if you haven't played them, BG 1 and 2 are way better than NWN2. Better story, better characters, much more re-playability, and they're actualyl hard (unless you play Human Kensai Mage as your main character).
I cheer for underdogs and Flash

I loved getting the level 1 rogue for more skills, but it does leave you pretty weak early game if you then switch to caster.

Cleric.

+ Show Spoiler +
There are these elemental enchantments that just break the game. They do sick dmg. Thankfully, monsters got shit AC, so most attacks go through even if you have shit BAB. Archers are shit cos arrows cant use said enchantments. If you want a mage, you can play sorcerers, or you can play the LOL hybrids like druid/cleric.

http://nwn2db.com/ Is a pretty in-dept systems for prebulding your character.

For the single player game I would probably recommend a cleric it's a pretty good all rounder class with enough buffs to more than make up for your poor bab if you want to focus on melee and decent caster options as long as you pick good domains.

Honestly though NWN2 and it's expansions are really quite easy just play whatever catches your eye.

The only really important thing I would say is if you chose any type of caster ensure you take the spell casting prodigy feat at level 1, and for almost anything else take luck of heros.

Also I would recommend against playing level adjusted races like drow, they mostly make zero sense in the context of the situation your pc will be in and the level adjustment/models can be kind of annoying.
