Hey y'all, back with another eSports Update at PCWorld. Tweets, Facebook likes, comments, thumbs-ups etc. are all appreciated.
PCWorld eSports Update: GSL 3 Round of 32, DreamHack recap
Now for the TL-only stuff:
I'm working on a feature piece for the website about the current state of eSports. Obviously Starcraft 2 is in, but to be honest, other than SC2 and fighting games, I don't know that much about the state of pro gaming. I saw MLG running a WoW competition--is that big? What's the state of FPSes besides CoD and Halo these days? Do people still care about Counter-Strike competitions?
Perhaps most importantly: Who should I talk to about other gaming scenes, and where should I find them? Post away in the comments.

Thanks for the awesome contribution :D
Anyways, to answer your questions, WoW is pretty much a dead Esport at this time. Blizzard has shown they have no interestin supporting it, last I heard MLG was dropping it for their next season, and spectators are virtually nonexistant.
Halo 3 is the biggest FPS atm in the US obv because of MLG. Its looking like Halo reach won't catch on in the pro scene for very long. Counterstrike is more popular in europe/sweden. I'm not sure about CoD, but afaik its smaller than Halo atm. The only other major ones i can think of is League of Legends/HoN which are still massive.
DJWheat would be a great person to ask, he seems to be hugely involved in several different gaming scenes. Otherwise, there really arent too many people that are involved in several different games. I'd start by talking to some of the MLG/IEM staff, they usually have a handle on whats going on. I'm sure JP would be willing to talk to you, and I know Trance (Trancey), another MLG admin, hangs out here frequently.

Some of the stuff in the above post seems inaccurate and speculative. I would recommend that you take any input from TL on eSports other than SC2 with a grain of salt.
I would echo the suggestion to interview DJ Wheat in order to gain information.
In your article, you may want to mention that with lockouts in the NBA and NFL looming, there hasn't ever been a better time to make a push to get esports in some form on ESPN (even if it's only shown on ESPN 8: The Ocho.)
